Abstract:This study focuses on the processing and microstructural characterisation and corrosion resistance of AlCoCrFeNi 2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy fabricated using selective laser melting additive manufacturing, where volumetric energy density (VED) was used. The microstructures of samples at different VED was characterised using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Hardness, mechanical properties, and electrochemical corrosion tests were conducted to assess the effect of VED on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the AlCoCrFeNi 2.1 alloy. The results showed that the alloy exhibited a combination of nanoscale cellular, layered dendritic, and layered structures. The average hardness values of the horizontal and vertical planes of the alloy were 322.2–361.9 and 327.9–352.8 HV, respectively. When the VED was 160 J/mm 3 , tensile strength, yield strength, and fracture elongation values of the alloy in the vertical direction achieved 1430.26 MPa, 1069.27 MPa, and 18.54 %, respectively. The corresponding values in the horizontal direction were 1389.29 MPa, 945.33 MPa, and 16.45 %, respectively. In a 5 % NaCl salt solution, the corrosion resistance of the sample gradually increased with VED. When the VED was 180 J/mm 3 , the self-corrosion potentials in the horizontal and vertical planes reached −0.240 and −0.238 V, respectively.Where, with increasing of in the VED, the volume fraction of the BCC/B2 phase in the alloy was decreased, which can enhance the corrosion resistance. These findings provide a theoretical basis for the integrated design of the macrostructures and microstructures of AlCoCrFeNi 2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloys for industrial applications.
