Abstract:While traditional port literature uses origin and destination pairs in global shipping networks, recent developments of dry ports in the hinterland, feeder service networks, and heavy foreign trade traffic make the ports in Bohai Bay a unique case in the analysis of inter-port connectivity and competitiveness. Using an integrated port connectivity index to define the above features, the advantages and challenges of individual ports can be assessed in a dynamic interconnected environment. The model can provide unbiased port development strategies for each port to ensure long-term sustainability. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Abstract:The ports of Dalian, Qingdao and Tianjin are the largest ports in the Bohai Bay Rim and as such are among the fastest growing container ports in China. This setting provides an opportunity to analyse the dynamics of competition involved in inter-port clusters. Competition in a port cluster can be examined from the perspective of port choice. To understand the key determinants of carriers' port choice strategies, on-site interviews were conducted in the fall of 2013. Having identified the factors involved, we performed multinomial logit regressions on them. The results indicated that foreign trade routes and destinations, improved design capacity, demand from the hinterland and whether or not there is a rapid boutique line, can sway a carrier's decision towards either a single port strategy or a combined strategy of making two or three stops at the ports of Dalian, Qingdao and Tianjin. As a result of this research, using combined qualitative and quantitative methodologies, a better understanding of the competition, development and governance of not only ports in a regional area, but throughout China itself, has been achieved. This has contributed overall to a better understanding of the dynamics and interrelationships involved between ports in the Bohai Bay Rim.

Abstract:With fast development of economic and technology all over the world, the prosperity of bulk commodity markets raise more demands on bulk commodity logistics. And more and more bulk commodity transaction platform have been established in China. Therefore the problem that how to make more contribution to the supply chain and provide more value-added services become a new matter faced by the port authorities. Most of the ports at home are still remain in traditional state and play a passive role in the chain. This article offering up supply chain orientation as basic theory, analyzed that whether port-oriented bulk commodity supply chain can be built. It turns out that the new business model should be constructed.

Abstract:Choosing a suitable cross-border logistics mode is the foundation for cross-border e-commerce enterprises to achieve sustainable development. Based on an analysis of the literature, the cross-border logistics modes are summarized as postal parcel, international express, overseas warehouse, and special line logistics modes. Using the multi-value set qualitative comparative analysis (mvQCA) method to explore the factors and formation paths of logistics mode selection of cross-border e-commerce enterprises, the results include the following: (1) The choice of logistics mode is the result of multiple condition variables, and the formation paths of different logistics mode selection vary. (2) The postal parcel mode is most selected by small and medium-sized B2C cross-border e-commerce enterprises; the overseas warehouse and special line modes are most selected by large and medium-sized ones with high logistics service capacity. (3) The international express mode is selected by B2C cross-border e-commerce enterprises of all sizes, and there is no typical formation path. The results indicate that cross-border e-commerce enterprises should have clear positioning and select the most suitable logistics mode, as only in this way can cross-border e-commerce and logistics enterprises jointly achieve sustainable development.

Abstract:Last mile delivery is an important part in the logistics service process of express enterprises since it can directly contact with the customer and affect customer satisfaction. How to select a suitable logistics service mode for last mile delivery with the objectives of lower delivery service cost and higher customer satisfaction is a noteworthy research topic. In this paper, we focus on the analysis method for logistics service mode selection for last mile delivery considering customer utility and delivery service cost. First, we conduct the market survey of customer needs and discuss the market segmentation, and then we propose a customer utility value calculation model based on utility theory. Next, we propose a delivery quantity prediction method based on the time series prediction and customer selection probability calculation. Furthermore, we construct a cost accounting model to determine the delivery service cost. On this basis, we show the selection of the suitable logistics service mode for last mile delivery according to the analysis results of customer utility and delivery service cost. Finally, we show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method by a case analysis.

Abstract:As port is an important link of international economy and trade,port competitiveness is an indicator of the national power.Port efficiency,especially the efficiency of port container terminal collection and distribution system is an important part of port competitiveness.In this paper,we consider port container terminal collection and distribution system as a whole and empirically study its technical efficiency,pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency from the perspective of supply chain system.The results indicate that the technical and scale efficiency of the port container terminal collection and distribution systems is mostly low and the pure technical efficiency is relatively high;the reasons are also explored.

Abstract:The right choice of logistics operation mode is not only the foundation for improving the comprehensive operation level of an enterprise, but also an important way to improve the management performance. Nevertheless, the study on this aspect is still lacking. In this paper, we develop a novel method for selecting enterprise’s logistics operation mode. First, we give the analysis of main types and characteristics of the logistics operation modes. According to the two dimensions of the Ballou model, i.e., the importance of logistics to enterprise success and the enterprise operation logistics capacity, we set up an evaluation index system for selecting enterprise’s logistics operation mode through literature analysis. Then, the each index is evaluated using the fuzzy language assessment method, and evaluation value of each index in the two dimensions is calculated using the 2-tuple fuzzy linguistic representation model. Furthermore, a two-dimensional matrix model for selecting enterprise’s logistics operation mode selection is built. According to the model, the right logistics operation mode can be selected. Finally, an example is used to illustrate the practicality and validity of proposed method.

Abstract:A detailed study of cross border e-commerce of lemon company has been done, it analyzes and summarizes its business products, main consumer objectives, existing logistical distribution model and combines the status of logistical operations of Lemon Company to analyze the logistical aspects of Lemon Company. Existing problems and factors that affect the choice of the logistical company's distribution model are analyzed in detail. An index system for the selection of cross-border e-commerce logistical distribution models has also been constructed. Existing logistical system has been comprehensively analyzed through expert scoring and other methods. Quantitative scoring of the index factors of the distribution model has been computed using the analytic hierarchy process and Matlab. Final comprehensive score of the three types of logistics distribution modes of the cross-border e-commerce company has been computed. A choice has been made for the logistical and distribution mode suitable for Lemon Company which can be used as overseas warehouse and distribution mode.
Logistics mode selection and information sharing in a cross-border e-commerce supply chain with competition

Abstract:Selecting an appropriate logistics mode is crucial for overseas suppliers (OSs) who enter new markets through the cross-border e-commerce platform (CEP), but it is challenging because OSs are unfamiliar with the local markets. Thus motivated, we aim at a supply chain where an OS sells its product through a CEP that holds demand information advantages, and the OS faces competition from the domestic supplier (DS). By constructing a multi-stage game model, we study the OS's logistics mode selection between direct-mail and bonded-warehouse, which has different logistics costs and inventory risks. Moreover, the influence of the CEP's information sharing decision on the logistics mode selection is investigated. Our results show that with information sharing, the OS always selects the bonded-warehouse logistics mode; while without information sharing, the OS makes a choice between direct-mail and bonded-warehouse mode according to the tax rate and market fluctuation. Particularly, under a high tax rate, with the increase in market fluctuation, the uninformed OS not only needs to adjust the logistics mode choice but also change the inventory strategy. We also reveal that information sharing could lead to the OS changing the logistics mode from direct-mail to bonded-warehouse, and then cause fierce competition between the OS and DS. Therefore, sharing information does not always benefit the CEP. Under certain conditions, it is more beneficial for the OS to choose the direct-mail mode when the information is shared, as doing so can help chain members escape the prisoner's dilemma and thus lead to a "win-win-win" outcome.

Abstract:To promote the construction of new development patterns of dual circulation and to accelerate the smooth flow of logistics channels, port logistics has become a new growth point for the logistics industry that accelerates the connection between domestic and foreign dual circulation. Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, as one of the main hub ports in China, is facing the key issue of how to clarify its current development status and future development direction. To scientifically measure and evaluate the status quo of the logistics development of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, clarify the advantages and disadvantages of the development and construction of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port logistics industry, based on the situation of new standards and new requirements for the logistics industry in the dual circulation pattern, this study firstly constructs a scientific and reasonable evaluation index system of port logistics from seven aspects, including port infrastructure, international logistics capacity, and smart logistics capacity. An integrated comprehensive evaluation method based on entropy and Complex Proportional Assessment (COPRAS) is then proposed, and a comprehensive evaluation and longitudinal comparative analysis of the logistics level of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port are carried out. The results show that the development of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in recent years is in line with that of many other ports due to the benefit of green logistics capacity, but it is seriously limited by smart logistics capabilities, and in the future, it should choose to continue to exert efforts in international logistics capabilities, green logistics capabilities, and total logistics capabilities.

Abstract:Decisions on port selection and inland mode choice for ocean-going container cargo are usually determined simultaneously. In this paper, a discrete choice model is developed for modeling the port selection and inland mode selection in South China. Quantification of the effects and the dynamics of different determinants in port selection and mode selection behavior are important for the assessment of any potential logistic infrastructure and the overall improvement of logistic network in the whole region. With the established model, the effect of the Hong Kong - Zhuhai - Macau Bridge, which will commence operation in 2016, was evaluated. On the contrary to the general belief, it was found that the bridge will not help Hong Kong Port in obtaining more containerized cargo from west PRD region because that the additional trucking route via the bridge will not significantly reduce the general cost of Hong Kong Port.

How to choose the operation mode of rural logistics has far-reaching influence on the development of the rural economy. Therefore, based on the analysis of the existing operation modes of rural logistics, this paper makes a comprehensive evaluation of the operation modes of rural logistics by using AHP, compares their relative effectiveness, and puts forward some suggestions on selecting different operation modes.

Abstract:Based on the analysis of the status quo of port logistics development along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu, this paper constructs a port logistics competitiveness evaluation indicator system from four dimensions: port infrastructure, scale of port logistics, urban economic level, and potential for port development. The entropy weight TOPSIS method is used to compare and analyze the logistics competitiveness of the eight ports along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu. Finally, it proposes relevant suggestions to improve the comprehensive logistics competitiveness of ports along the Yangtze River, including establishing port groups, improving port logistics infrastructure, and accelerating multimodal transportation.

Abstract:With the continuous development of the current economic globalization, coupled with the continuous maturity of Internet technology, e-commerce, as a new industry, has been developing rapidly. Cross-border e-commerce has become the mainstream of development in the current economic era. In the process of cross-border e-commerce development, logistics plays an important role. The success or failure of small and medium-sized enterprises also depends on the efficiency and quality of logistics to a great extent. If some cross-border e-commerce enterprises want to get a place in the current fierce market competition, they must choose appropriate logistics channels to effectively promote their own development. This study explores the typical application mode of Blockchain technology in the field of cross-border logistics, and proposes specific implementation path to improve the performance of cross-border logistics management. This study combines the selection of cross-border logistics drive of small and medium-sized enterprises, analyzes the structural framework, core technology and main advantages of Blockchain, and then analyzes the combination of Blockchain technology advantages and cross-border logistics management needs. On this basis, the application mode of Blockchain technology in cross-border supply chain logistics is proposed; the application mode of Blockchain technology in cross-border trade logistics is proposed with information, documents and containers as typical objects; the application mode of Blockchain technology in cross-border customs clearance is proposed with customs declaration as typical carrier. Finally, the paper puts forward the specific implementation path, main success factors and implementation steps of the application of Blockchain technology in cross-border logistics.

Abstract:Warehouse logistics business is a combination of warehousing services and terminal services which is provided by port logistics through the existing port infrastructure on the basis of the port. However, if there is little internal contact among the warehouses & ports in one company, then unnecessary competition will rise up. In order to deal with the competitive relationship among them, this paper carries out an optimization on warehouse & port logistics operation models based on game theory and accordingly solving the optimized model using Genetic Algorithm. We set Sinotrans Guangdong Company as an example to illustrate the newly proposed method. Finally, this paper gives some responses and suggestions for the logistics operation in Sinotrans Guangdong warehouse & port for its future development.

Abstract:With the rapid development of economy and trade, China foreign import and export trade has created a Sustained growth. China foreign import and export trade is 2972.76 billion dollars in 2010, grow 34.7% compared to the same period. Foreign trade sustained development has promoted the shipping and port industry rapid development, Followed by intensive state and enterprises investment in port infrastructure through large-scale projects, especially investment in port logistics infrastructure. After years of construction and development, China ports have entered into fierce competition, and risk control era. Evaluation and strategy selection of port logistics competitiveness are urgent problems to be solved. Port logistics competitiveness is the comprehensive performance of port logistics infrastructure ability, service ability, management ability and etc. logistics infrastructure network ability is the most direct expression of it. To evaluate main regional port logistics competitiveness, this paper analysis the factors which influence port logistics competitiveness and constructs the indicators for measuring them from logistics infrastructure network' perspectives. It applies factor analysis to measure and evaluate their competitiveness .The method offers an deep insight for state and enterprises on effective management in port logistics. Finally, the paper selects typical port city as research object, applies factor analysis method to evaluate the port logistics competitiveness. According to the empirical results, the paper put forwards China’s port logistics strategies on infrastructure planning, construction and development.
