Neurology and Therapy
Abstract:Pseudobulbar palsy is a common symptom in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), but it is often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed as other diseases. The Center for Neurologic Study Lability Scale (CNS-LS) is a self-report scale consisting of seven questions designed for evaluating pseudobulbar affect (PBA). The current study aimed to validate a Chinese version of the CNS-LS.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The aim of this paper is to address the validation of the Chinese version of the Center for Neurologic Study-Lability Scale (CNS-LS) in patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Specifically: 1. **Translation and Validation**: Translate the English version of the CNS-LS scale into Chinese and validate it through standardized forward-backward translation and cultural adaptation methods. 2. **Assessing Validity**: Validate the effectiveness of the Chinese version of CNS-LS through Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis to ensure its accurate diagnosis of Pseudobulbar Affect (PBA). 3. **Reliability Testing**: Determine the reliability of the Chinese version of CNS-LS using the test-retest method and evaluate its internal consistency through Spearman's correlation coefficient and Cronbach's α coefficient. The study results indicate that the Chinese version of CNS-LS has good sensitivity and specificity, and a score of 12 or above can effectively identify PBA in Chinese ALS patients. This provides clinicians and researchers with a reliable tool for assessing and treating this common and often misdiagnosed symptom.
