Abstract:The isomerization of p-t-butyltoluene with aluminum trichloride as catalyst and in toluene solution was studied.The reaction could proceed readily in room temperature and reach equilibrium in one hour.The equilibrium isomer mixture contained about 67.6 % of the m-t-butyltoluene and 32.4 % p-t-butyl toluene isomer.Its recovery rate of C11 could reach 90 %.

Abstract:The dehydrogenation of vapor phase methyl isobutyl carbinol to produce methyl isobutyl ketone over a CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 catalyst prepared by co-precipitation method under the atmospheric pressure was studied. Using a single-tube reactor, the influence of the reaction temperature and the space velocity of methyl isobutyl carbinol on the dehydrogenation activities was investigated experimentally. The results show that under the temperature of 483~513 K and space velocity of 1.0~2.0 h-1, the maximum conversion rate of methyl isobutyl carbinol per pass is 91.11%, and the selectivity for methyl isobutyl ketone is over 99.0%. Based on these experimental results, a rate equation for the reaction was obtained by a least square method as -r=k(p(1.975/MIBC))-(1/k)P(1.980/MIBC), in which k = 9.542×107exp(-E / RT), E = 58.08 kJ·mol-1. The correlation index and variance error calculations indicate that, using the rate equation proposed, the calculated conversion data is in good agreement with the experimental data.

Abstract:The selectivity limitations of tert-butylation of naphthalene for obtaining 2,6-di-tert-butylnaphathalene (DTBN) was overcame (2,6-/2,7-DTBN>30) over fine-tuned mordenite. With citric acid (CA) and zirconium modification, the synergistic effect of the alkylation catalyst was promoted and the ratio of 2.6-/2,7-DTBN increased after controlling the reaction conditions. Only requires 5.0 equivalents of solvent, 3.0 equivalents of tert-butanol and 20 wt% of catalyst dosage, the ratio of 2,6-DTBN/2,7-DTBN can reach to 49, overcoming the selectivity barriers in naphthalene alkylation reaction. Present study reveals that high 2,6-selectivity can be realized with the optimized acidity, enhanced synergistic effect and fine-tuned zeolite structures.

Abstract:The catalytic properties of aluminum chloride ionic liquid for synthesis of p-tert-butyl toluene were investigated using toluene and tert-butylchloride as raw materials.The results showed that the conversion of tert-butylchloride was 100％,and the selectivity to the target product p-tert-butyl toluene was high under the optimized alkylation reaction condition as follows:reaction temperature 0 ℃,ionic liquid amount 1％ of toluene mass and molar ratio of toluene to tert-butylchloride 2∶ 1.Cuprous chloride as the promoter was added into aluminum chloride ionic liquid.When the molar ratio of aluminum trichloride ionic liquid to cuprous chloride was 1:2,the selectivity to p-tert-butyl toluene was enhanced from 50.22％ to 85.38％ under the optimal condition.

Abstract:In this paper, studies of V-Cs-Cu and V-Cs-Cu-TI catalysts used in the partial oxidation of p-tert butyl toluene to p-tert butyl benzaldehyde are reported. The two series of catalysts are prepared by an impregnation method. The effects of temperature, space velocity, concentration, ratio of O-2/p-tent butyl toluene and the stability of catalysts are examined. The results indicate that both the catalysts show good catalytic activity in partial oxidation of p-tert butyl toluene to p-tert butyl benzaldehyde; but the series of V-Cs-Cu-Tl catalysts exhibit more excellent catalytic activity. Under the reaction conditions of space velocity at 10,000 h(-1) and temperature at 440 degreesC, the conversion of p-tert butyl toluene can reach 12 mol% and the selectivity of p-tert butyl benzaldehyde is 85 mol%. In addition, the good stability in the series of V-Cs-Cu-TI catalysts is another important character: the catalytic activity still remained significant after stability test for 365 h. Abstract:Alkylation of toluene with ten-butylalco hot is investigated over HY zcolite catalyst. The prcpara lion,the characterization by FT-IK. and the influences conditions on the catalyst performances are discussed. The results showed that the main product is the para-tert-butyltoluen(PTBT)and the toluene conversion of 33.97% can be obtained under the conditions of the catalyst calcination temperature of 550℃,the reaction temperature of 200℃,reaction time of 4 h,the pressure of 1.OMPa,the molar ratio of toluene to tert-butylalcohol of 6 and the volume space velocity of 4.0h-1.The Brsted acid sites played a key role in the reaction. The toluene conversion and PTBT selectivity ihowed increasing trends with increasing the ratio of Brsted acid sites to Lewis acid sites. The deactivated catalyst can be partly regenerated through acetone washing.

Abstract:A series of catalysts for the vapor phase selective oxidation from p-tert butyl toluene to p-tert benzaldehyde were prepared by the impregnation method. The effects of the reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, space velocity, concentration of p-tert betyl toluene, and stability of catalysts were investigated. The results showed that under suitable conditions the selectivity of p-tert benzaldehyde can be as high as 80 mol% and the conversion of p-tert butyl toluene can reach 12 mol%. The catalyst retained excellent reaction properties after running for 365 hours. The catalyst showed broad application prospects both for industry and environmental protection.

Abstract:The alkylation of toluene with tert-butyl alcohol(TBA) is carried out with phosphotungstic acid supported H-mordenite(PW/HM) as catalyst in a 100 mL stainless steel batch reactor equipped with a stirrer.The physicochemical properties of PW/HM with different PW loadings are characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),ammonia program temperature desorption(NH3-TPD) and thermogravimetric(TG) techniques.Their catalytic performances are investigated for the tert-butylation of toluene.When the PW loading is as high as 25%,PW can be highly dispersed on the surface of HM.The calcination temperature of catalyst is 350℃.The influences of various reaction conditions on 25% PW/HM catalyst are discussed.It is found that,when using 25% PW/HM as catalyst,36.3% conversion of toluene and 82.1% selectivity of p-tert-butyltoluene(PTBT) can be obtained under following optimal conditions: 160℃ of reaction temperature,0.6 MPa of initial pressure,3 of molar ratio of tert-butyl alcohol to toluene,5 of w(reactant)/w(catalyst).

Abstract:Alkylation of toluene with tert-butanol was investigated over La2O3-modified HY zeolite catalysts in the microfixed bed reactor. The affect factors of conversion of toluene and the selectivity of tert-butyltoluene were studied. The main reaction products have been identified as p-tert-butyltoluene and m-tert-butyltoluene, La2O3 modified HY zeolite catalyst can significantly improve the selectivity of p-tert-butyltoluene. The result showed that 5% La2O3-modified HY zeolite catalyst was catalytic active (32.4% conversion of toluene), with para-selectivity near 82% at 473 K after 8 h. At the same time the catalysts were characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The FT-IR results showed that the modifier could increase the concentration of weak B acid of HY zeolite and obviously improve the selectivity of p-tert-butyltoluene.

Abstract:A new catalyst system V-Cs-Cu-Tl/TiO 2 ·SiC for vapor-phase selective oxidation reaction of p-tert- butyltoluene to p-tert- butylbenzaldehyde were studied. It was found that the addition of thallium promoted the reaction. After 365 hours stability test, the V-Cs-Cu-Tl/TiO 2 ·SiC catalyst still kept excellent result that conversion of p-tert- butyltoluene and the selectivity of p-tert- butylbenzaldehyde reach 10 mol% and 80 mol%. The catalyst was characterized by XRD, TEM, FT-IR and ICP measurements.

Abstract:p-tert-butylbenzoic acid(PTBA) was synthesized from oxidation of p-tert-butyltoluene(PTBT) in a tailored bubbling reactor over cobalt acetylacetonate(Ⅱ) catalyst.The oxidant was air,and the reactor was operated under atmospheric condition.A serial reaction mechanism for PTBT oxidation was proposed based on the distribution of oxidation products.The effects of reaction condition such as air flow rate,reaction temperature and catalyst concentration on PTBT oxidation were investigated,and the appropriate reaction conditions were obtained.PTBT conversion and PTBA yield reached 54.9% and 94.8% after reaction 8 h,respectively,under the conditions of air flow rate of 150 mL/min,reaction temperature of 150 ℃ and mass fraction of Co 0.003%.

Abstract:Alkylation of toluene with tert-butylalcohol was investigated over three zeolite catalysts (HY, H beta and HMCM-22). The acid properties of zeolites were characterized by FT-IR. The fact that the reaction was inlfuenced by the mount of acid was discussed emphatically, and the reaction temperature on conversion of toluene and selectivity for 4-tert-butyl toluene was also studied. The main products have been identified as 4-tert-butyl-toluene and 3-tert-butyltoluene. The best result was obtained when temperature was 473 K, the space velocity was 4.0 h(-1), and the mole ratio of toluene to tert-butylalcohol was 6. Zeolite HMCM-22, with the highest total acid and the lowest ratio of the total B acid to the total L acid, possessed high activity for toluene conversion and high paraselectivity over the three types of zeolite catalysts.
Et3nhcl-Alcl3 Ionic Liquids As Catalyst for Alkylation of Toluene with 2-Chloro-2-methylpropane

Abstract:Alkylation of toluene with 2-chloro-2-methylpropane （t-Bu-Cl） to synthesize para-tert-butyltoluene （PTBT） was carried out in the presence of triethylamine hydrochloride-aluminum chloride ionic liquids used as the catalyst. The ionic liquids were prepared with different molar ratios of Et3NHCl to AlCl3 , and the effect of the molar ratio between AlCl 3 and Et3NHCl, the reaction time, the reaction temperature, the ionic liquid dosage, as well as the molar ratio of toluene to chloro-2-methylpropane on the alkylation reaction of toluene with chloro-2-methyl-propane was investigated. The test results showed that the acidic ionic liquids prepared with Et3NHCl and AlCl3 had good activity and selectivity for the alkylation reaction of toluene with alkyl chloride to produce PTBT. The optimal reaction conditions were specified at anAlCl3 to Et3NHCl ratio of 1.6, a reaction temperature of 20℃, a mass fraction of toluene to ionic liquid of 10%, and a chloro-2-methylpropane to toluene molar ratio of 0.5. Under the suitable reaction conditions, a 98% conversion of chloro-2-methylpropane and an 82.5% selectivity of PTBT were obtained. Ionic liquids could be reused 5 times with its catalytic activity unchanged, and the regenerated ionic liquids can be recycled.

Abstract:Hβ zeolites with n(SiO_2)/n(Al_2O_3)=20,25 and 38 were synthesized and their properties were characterized by XRD and NH_3-TPD.Preparation of 2-t-butyl-p-cresol through the t-butylation of p-cresol with methyl t-butyl ether(MTBE) catalyzed by Hβ zeolite was investigated.Effects of temperature,weight hourly space velocity(WHSV),feed ratio(n(MTBE)/n(p-cresol)) and the n(SiO_2)/n(Al_2O_3) ratio of Hβ zeolite on p-cresol conversion and product selectivity were studied.Thus,with Hβ(n(SiO_2)/n(Al_2O_3)=20) as catalyst,the optimum reaction conditions were n(MTBE)/n(p-cresol)=1.5,WHSV=1.02 mL/h and temperature=120 ℃.Conversion of p-cresol was 68% and yield of 2-t-butyl-p-cresol was 64%.
Study on Activated Bentonite Applied to Tert-Butylation of Toluene

Abstract:tert-Butylation of toluene with tert-butanol used as the alkylating agent was investigated over the activated bentonite and HY zeolite used as the catalyst.The influences of various butylation reaction parameters,including the toluene/tert-butanol ratio,the reaction temperature,and the space velocity were discussed.The optimal results were obtained at a reaction temperature of 180 ℃,a space velocity of 4 h-1,and a mole ratio of toluene to tert-butanol equating to 2.The structure and acidic properties of catalyst were characterized by the BET method and the Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） spectroscopy.Compared with the HY zeolite,the activated bentonite possessed high activity for toluene conversion and high para-selectivity because it had larger pore diameter,smaller micropore surface area and higher ratio of total Lewis acids to total Br nsted acids.

Abstract:The reaction system of toluene disproportionation and trimethylbenzene transalkylation is a complex system for xylene preparation. In this paper, the equilibrium compositions of the products in this reaction system were carefully calculated and the equilibrium compositions at different temperatures and different feed compositions were analysed. The results show that as the temperature increases, the equilibrium conversions of toluene and trimethylbenzene decrease, and the equilibrium selectivity of xylene decreases as well. As Tol∶TMB value in the feed decreases from 9 to 1, the equilibrium conversions of toluene and trimethylbenzene decrease, while the equilibrium selectivity of xylene increases significantly. These results are due to the cooperation effect of toluene disproportionation and trimethylbenzene transalkylation. Using treated β zeolite as the catalyst, we analysed the reaction results and compared them with calculated equlibrium results. The results show that as the temperature increases, the aromatics conversions increase and approach to the equilibrium value, while xylene selectivity decreases markedly. It shows that there is an optimal point of Tol∶TMB value (60∶40) at which aromatics conversions and xylene selectivities achieve the maximum values.

Abstract:Tetrahydrotricyclopentadiene(below THTCPD) isomer is a good candidate materials for the high performance liquid fuel component because of its high density and heat of combustion value. The object of this study was to find out the proper reaction condition to improve the fluidity of THTCPD which is solid state at room temperature. Therefore, we have carried out isomerization reactions using aluminum chloride in the varying reaction condition such as reaction temperature and solvents. The results showed that when using aluminum chloride catalyst, THTCPD isomerization reaction was more active in the polar halogenated reaction media such as dichloromethane(methylene chloride: MC), 1,2-dichloroethane(ethylene chloride: EC) and chloroform than in non-polar hydrocarbon media such as n-Hexnae and toluene and was effected by reaction temperature variation.

Abstract:Copolymer of propylene with a small amount of butene was prepared with supported Ziegler Natta catalyst MgCl 2/TiCl 4 AlEt 3/DPDMS and was fractionated with preparative temperature rising elution fractionation technique.The composition and tacticity distribution of copolymer were studied.It is found that the copolymer has a broad tacticity distribution and fractionation is mainly conducted according to tacticity.Compositional heterogeneity also exists to some extent.Isotacticity of fractions increases with elution temperature,but butene content shows a maximum in the fraction eluted at 70℃.With combination of previous work,this phenomenon is explained to be the result of the presence of electron donor in aspecific active site.

Abstract:In this paper, the chemical equilibrium constants of the reactions in the reaction system of toluene disproportionation and trimethylbenzene transalkylation reaction system were carefully calculated , and the equilibrium compositions of the components at different temperatures and different feed mole ratios were analysed . The results showed that the equilibrium conversion of toluene and trimethylbenzene decreased as temperature increased, and the equilibrium concentration of xylene decreased as well. As Tol/TMB mole ratio in the feed decreased, the equilibrium conversion of toluene and trimethylbenzene decreased. However, the equilibrium concentration of xylene increase dramatically. These results were due to the co-operative effects of toluene disproportionation and trimethylbenzene transalkylation. Using β zeolite as catalyst, the equilibrium compositions and experimental data were compared and the results showed that higher temperature would narrow the gap between experimental data and their equilibrium counterparts.
