Abstract:Ever since the beginning of the 20th century,the Japanese Buddhist scholars have carried out thorough examination of the general picture,the translators and the doubtful authenticity of the Chinese version of the Buddhist scriptures,including the Eastern Han's Buddhist scriptures.Erich Zürcher,a famous Dutch sinologist,writes a broad outline of the linguistic characteristics of the Eastern Han's Buddhist trans-lation,gives a clear exposition of the translation terminology and style of the Chinese version of the Buddhist scriptures in the different stages of translation,and provides a list of the translated works of the Eastern Han's Buddhist scriptures based on textual research.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the multimedia hardware technology and computer software technology,the digitalization of Chinese classics has become popular date to the 1980s,and some success has also been gained.Now the visualization method is often applied to the digitalization of Chinese classics,but it seems turn against the retrieval of Chinese classics compared to the textualization.Therefore,based on investigating current achievements,several problems of Chinese classics textualization including the design of system,the types of classics,the acquisition of image,the layout analysis,the word segmentation and recognition are discussed.
When "allegory" Runs Up Against "Bi-Xing":A Western Poetic Ideology in China

Abstract:People in comparative literature have devoted themselves to looking for some concepts and terms communicable in cross-cultural context, among which Allegory is found to bear such a commonality and is hence used both in the West and in China. The present author, by taking WANG Guo-wei's translation and literary critical practice as example, argues that, in particular historical context, each poetic idea cannot stand aloof but is associated with others; that is, its meaning has risen from its reference to other poetic ideas and even the whole poetic ideology of that particular cultural tradition. As allegory has a historical engagement in Western culture, it is hard for it to come to terms with the Chinese poetics. In fact, the ancient Chinese poetic meanings and values have their own poetic discourse; for example, Bi and Xing (Chinese metaphor) are more appropriate such choices.

Abstract:Text refers to the original words or symbols that convey meaning in certain forms. As such, text is composed of communicable words or symbols and the carrier that could store and display words or symbols. While the carrier is the form in which text exists, words and symbols are the spring of a text's meaning. Only when these two elements are complete, it is possible for a text to come into being. Any materials can act as carriers of text so long as they have the function of recording words and symbols. Yet without carriers, there would be no text. It is in such a sense that literature could be understood as a material form rather than a reflection of ideology. Generally speaking, text appears in three basic forms of brain text, material text and electronic (digital) text. Brain text, in its biological form, preserves human beings' experience of perception and cognition through memory. Before the invention of written symbols, there appeared a wide array of brain texts with literary characteristics, such as myth, heroic epics, folk tales, and historical narratives. Brain text is the prototype of the text of oral literature, yet it is not hereditary and can only be passed down orally from one generation to another. In such a case, most of the brain texts with literary characteristics are lost to the world with the death of their owners and only a few are preserved in the form of material text.

Abstract:Ethical literary criticism is a theory of interpreting and analyzing literature from an ethical perspective. It examines literature as a unique expression of ethics and morality within a certain historical period, and argues that literature is not just an art of language, but also an art of text. Ethical literary criticism is aimed at interpreting literary texts, claiming that almost all literary texts are the records of human beings' moral experiences and contain ethical structures or ethical lines. Ethical lines form the main ethical structure. Compared to the written text in literature, the text of oral literature, which can be termed as brain text, is stored in the human brain. The material and fundamental existence of literature is based on written context. The evolving definition of literature is dependent upon the culture and context from which it originated.
A Mythological Reading on the Novel "Journey to the West" and Its Inspiration in Classical Chinese Literature

Abstract:In the fifteenth century AD. during the period Ming Dynasty, which ise one of dynasties of Chinese history, written and compiled by Wu Cheng’en, the novel “Xi You Ji Journey To The West” is one of the classical chinese piece, narrates the pilgrim voyage of budist monk Xuanzang to the India. Along the way, they encounter various mythological animals, ghosts, monsters and mythical creatures. The novel "Journey to the West" is one of the four classic works of classical Chinese literature. These four classic books, including "Journey to the West", are "The Dream of Red Mansions 红楼梦", " Water Margin” or “Outlaws of the Marsh水浒传" and " Three Kingdoms三国演义." The novel describes the adventures of Xuanzang during his journey to India. In addition to this, in "Journey to the West", during Xuanzang's holy pilgrimage trip, to serve him and protect himself from all kinds of troubles, “Sun Wukong 孙悟空”, “Zhu Bajie 猪八戒”, “Sha Wujing沙悟净” and “White Dragon Horse 白龙马” accompanied him. There are many derivatives of the novel of Journey to the West in the countries neighboring the Chinese geography. Its Indian counterpart, the Ramayana, and one of the main characters, Hanuman, are an important example of this. It is also found in countries such as Korea, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Sri Lanka. In this study, the definition of the novel Journey to the West is made, its content and subject are explained, its place and importance in classical Chinese and world literature are explained.

Abstract:Textbooks are the core materials for students to study and read.There are three functions of a textbook:first,it is for students to read;second,it is for students to consult,and third,it is for instructors to refer to.Considering the abundant western literary works of the 20th century,the literary history is the core element,which contributes to the choice and study of the most valuable literary works.In order to develop a good textbook on the western literature history of the 20th century,it is important to challenge the traditional concept that the textbook is only for instructors to teach and for students to study.Instead,a textbook of the history of literature is not only the teaching guide for instructors but also a guiding book for scholarly study and exploration.

Abstract:Literature-criticizing fu is not only an outstanding phenomenon in the history of fu(or ci)-writing,but an important part itself in our ancient literary theory.The appearance of literature-criticizing fu relates to the developing of the style-criticizing,but fu-criticizing fu connects much with the imperial examination system,in which fu-writing plays an important role.The gist of most literature-criticizing fu is that shi (poetry) and fu are of the same resource,and that they all should express the Confucian Tao (doctrines).But as literature and art,literature-criticizing fu,when describing literary theory,shows its relationships with the fu-style:elaborating,structure,and Zeitgeist.And the form of antithesis and rhyme also gives the readers aesthetic experience.
An Analysis of the Conversion of Film and Television Symbols in Traditional Literature

Abstract:Literature and film have become more and more intensive under the blessing of information technology. By taking the traditional famous book "Journey to the West" as an example to explore the problem of shaping image symbols under the adaptation of traditional culture to provide reference for the film and television of literature. From the perspective of semiotics, the traditional literary symbols are analyzed from the aspects of character personality, story background and emotional factors, the contrastive analysis of video symbols adapted from film and television, and audience engagement.

Abstract:Although without handing any monograph about the theory of Ci down,Jiang Kui,a great famous poet of the South Song Dynasty who was good at both the poems and Ci,has made great achievements in his artistic creation of Ci which guided by the thought of poems of his own and showed his unique aesthetic ideal and pursuit.Generally,the literature theory of Ci by Jiang Kui reflected in the aesthetic pursuit with subtle flavor,deep and elegant in artistic style,thought of Ci-Music based on the lyric with melody and of Ci relied on poetry techniques,and cultural nature expressing loneliness.The insights and thought sparks of Jiang’s creative ideas are still for us worth exploring constantly though his artistic ideals in Ci can not to be realized completely as he wanted.

Abstract:The biggest difference between Chinese Language and Western Language lies on the difference of their signifier.Chinese Language mainly characterizes its numerous homonyms(same phoneme and different character) and sound-character mixed signifier,which led to its developed written language.Wenyan(classical Chinese language) becomes a symbol of high culture.Calligraphy,then,became a form of art.Recognition of written Chinese delays the progress of immediate perception of words,and it leads to a thinking way which is full of tasteful apprehension.Homonymy produces metaphor.This is why China has been called a poetic nation and Chinese a poetic language.Such culture as well as literature can avoid drawbacks of metaphysics,being-to-beings change,the popularity of scientism for instance.However,People who speak Chinese holds the idea that the nature of language is for use,which enables Chinese culture to safeguard and contain some final values,Tao,for example,instead of the nihilism.What role Chinese culture will play in the era of globalization depends on whether it can create a new ethic value.The ambiguity of Chinese word based on its special signifier causes pluralism and protects final values,and it should bring out an active answer to what is goodness in human life.Chinese culture as well as its logic working will make special contribution to the modern world.

Abstract:Since the Qing dynasty, the relationship between the apocrypha and literature has concerned scholars working on the Wenxuan 文選 (Selections of Refined Writings) and Wenxin diaolong 文心雕龍 (The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons). Apocryphal texts emerged in the Han dynasty under the guise of the Six Classics authored by Confucius, as a body of sacred documents explaining the mandates of former rulers or the induction between the celestial and the human. Also containing genealogies of sacred rulers, legends and ancient histories, astronomical and geographical knowledge, and auspicious omens resulting from the correspondence between the celestial and the human, these texts offered abundant resources to authors from the Han, Wei, and Six Dynasties, through the Sui and Tang. Reliance on such a canon as a foundation inevitably yielded some skepticism among scholars as to the veracity of their sources; nonetheless, their literary value was always affirmed. The rhapsodic prose-poetic tradition of the Han dynasty was itself fostered by the exaggerated descriptive style of apocryphal texts.

Abstract:This article examines the Sinologists’ conceptually mediated approach in their studies and translations of Chinese literature in the nineteenth century. Gems of Chinese Literature (1884), compiled and translated by Herbert Allen Giles (1845–1935), contains the English translation of 110 Chinese prose extracts and eight poems from fifty-nine Chinese authors. This article historicizes the genesis and construction of this translation anthology and argues that, though most likely derived from a Chinese guwen (classical prose) collection, it was designed to provide a more systematic view of Chinese literature informed by the concept of national literature. By analysing its organizational strategies, discursive paratexts, and how it deviated from its possible Chinese source, the author demonstrates that Gems of Chinese Literature reveals more complex questions concerning the (re-)conceptualization and representation of Chinese literature at the encounter of Chinese and Western literary paradigms.

Abstract:The communication between Wang Tao(1828-1897) and protestant missionaries in the Late Qing Dynasty focused on the Western religion and learning.When discussing Western learning,Wang Tao also used the term "literature," a term that would have great influence on the developmental history of pre-modern Chinese literary thoughts.While he had a systematic exploration into the development of Western learning and the Jesuits’ works in the Late Ming,Wang Tao didn’t elaborate on the concept of the term "wenxue(literature)," although he had mentioned Western poetry and other genres as well as some important Greek,Roman and British poets.Wang Tao’s experience and his understanding of Western literature were developed after the protestant missionaries introduced the Western concept of literature into China and recognized the term "wenxue" as the equivalent to "literature." The historical significance of the term still holds value to contemporary academic explorations into literary and intellectual history.

Abstract:The study outlines general principles of biblical hermeneutics influence on the poetics of Ukrainian baroque prose. The Bible perceived by ancient writers as a collection of sacred books written by the Holy Spirit through the mediation of hagiographers is full of metaphors, comparisons, allegories and parables that needed clarification. Biblical hermeneutics developed rules for the Bible exegesis in order to avoid false variants of interpreting the Scripture. The four-sense method of biblical hermeneutics borrowed from Western Catholic tradition helped to avoid controversial interpretation of the Holy Scripture. The immersion of Ukrainian baroque literature into the biblical domain caused its paraphrasing nature and created conditions for the development of the four-sense hermeneutics as the structure of the poetics of Ukrainian baroque prose. Principles of biblical hermeneutics, having become a monolithic core of the form and content of authors’ texts, eventually began to go beyond the actual theological literature into the field of secular arts.
