Abstract:Algebra Colloquium, Volume 31, Issue 03, Page 441-450, September 2024. We find an explicit expression of the associated primes of monomial ideals as a colon by an element [math], using the unique irredundant irreducible decomposition whose irreducible components are monomial ideals. An algorithm to compute [math] is given using Macaulay2. For squarefree monomial ideals the problem is related to the combinatorics of the underlying clutter or graph. For ideals of Borel type, the monomial [math] takes a simpler form, and we classify when [math] is unique.

Abstract:In this article we first compare the set of elements in the socle of an ideal of a polynomial algebra over a field K that are not in the ideal itself with Macaulay's inverse systems of such polynomial algebras in a purely combinatorial way for monomial ideals, and then develop some closure operational properties for the related poset . We then derive some algebraic propositions of -graded rings (a natural generalization of the usual -grading where is a monoid) that then have some combinatorial consequences. Interestingly, some of the results from this part that uniformly hold for polynomial rings are always false when the ring is local. We finally delve into some direct computations, in relation to a given term order of the monomials, for general zero-dimensional Gorenstein ideals, and we deduce a few explicit observations and results for the inverse systems from some recent results about socles.

Abstract:We develop the theory of central ideals on commutative rings. We introduce and study the central seminormalization of a ring in another one. This seminormalization is related to the theory of regulous functions on real algebraic varieties. We provide a construction of the central seminormalization by a decomposition theorem in elementary central gluings. The existence of a central seminormalization is established in the affine case and for real schemes.

Abstract:In classical and real algebraic geometry there are several notions of the radical of an ideal I. There is the vanishing radical defined as the set of all real polynomials vanishing on the real zero set of I, and the real radical defined as the smallest real ideal containing I. By the real Nullstellensatz they coincide. This paper focuses on extensions of these to the free algebra R<x,x^*> of noncommutative real polynomials in x=(x_1,...,x_g) and x^*=(x_1^*,...,x_g^*). We work with a natural notion of the (noncommutative real) zero set V(I) of a left ideal I in the free algebra. The vanishing radical of I is the set of all noncommutative polynomials p which vanish on V(I). In this paper our quest is to find classes of left ideals I which coincide with their vanishing radical. We completely succeed for monomial ideals and homogeneous principal ideals. We also present the case of principal univariate ideals with a degree two generator and find that it is very messy. Also we give an algorithm (running under NCAlgebra) which checks if a left ideal is radical or is not, and illustrate how one uses our implementation of it.

Abstract:Freiman's theorem gives a lower bound for the cardinality of the doubling of a finite set in $\RR^n$. In this paper we give an interpretation of his theorem for monomial ideals and their fiber cones. We call a quasi-equigenerated monomial ideal a Freiman ideal, if the set of its exponent vectors achieves Freiman's lower bound for its doubling. Algebraic characterizations of Freiman ideals are given, and finite simple graphs are classified whose edge ideals or matroidal ideals of its cycle matroids are Freiman ideals.

On the $\mathrm{v}$-number of Gorenstein ideals and Frobenius powers

Abstract:In this paper, we show the equality of the (local) $\mathrm{v}$-number and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of certain classes of Gorenstein algebras, including the class of Gorenstein monomial algebras. Also, for the same classes of algebras with the assumption of level, we show that the (local) $\mathrm{v}$-number serves as an upper bound for the regularity. Moreover, we investigate the $\mathrm{v}$-number of Frobenius powers of graded ideals in prime characteristic setup. In this study, we demonstrate that the $\mathrm{v}$-numbers of Frobenius powers of graded ideals have an asymptotically linear behaviour. In the case of unmixed monomial ideals, we provide a method for computing the $\mathrm{v}$-number without prior knowledge of the associated primes.

Abstract:Let $(R, \mathfrak{m})$ be a Noetherian local ring. This paper concerns several extremal invariants arising from the study of the relation between colength and (Hilbert--Samuel or Hilbert--Kunz) multiplicity of an $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideal. We introduce versions of these invariants by restricting to various closures and ``cross-pollinate'' the two multiplicity theories by asking for analogues invariants already established in one of the theories. On the Hilbert--Samuel side, we prove that the analog of the Stückrad--Vogel invariant (that is, the infimum of the ratio between the multiplicity and colength) for integrally closed $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideals is often $1$ under mild assumptions. We also compute the supremum and infimum of the relative drops of multiplicity for (integrally closed) $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideals. On the Hilbert--Kunz side, we study several analogs of the Lech--Mumford and Stückrad--Vogel invariants.

On algebraic properties of some non-prime ideals of collections of cells

Abstract:In this work, we consider a family of coordinate rings obtained as a quotient ring of a binomial ideal associated to a collection of cells. The algebraic properties of Cohen-Macaulayness, Gorensteiness and the Hilbert-Poincaré series have been studied in literature only for some classes of collections of cells whose related binomial ideals are prime. We study these algebraic properties for some classes of collections of cells and polyominoes whose coordinate rings are not domain, considering a new strategy involving the combinatorics of the collections of cells and a recent result of Conca and Varbaro on the radical initial ideals.

Abstract:Following the well-established terminology in commutative algebra, any (not necessarily commutative) finite-dimensional local algebra.. with radical.. will be said to be short provided J(3) = 0. As in the commutative case, we show: If a short local algebra.. has an indecomposable non-projective Gorenstein-projective module M, then either A is self-injective (so that all modules are Gorenstein-projective) and then, of course, vertical bar J(2)vertical bar <= 1, or else vertical bar J(2)vertical bar = vertical bar J/J(2)vertical bar - 1 and vertical bar JM vertical bar = vertical bar J(2)vertical bar vertical bar M/JM vertical bar. More generally, we focus the attention to semi-Gorensteinprojective and 8-torsionfree modules, even to Omega-paths of length 2, 3 and 4. In particular, we show that the existence of a non-projective reflexive module implies that vertical bar J(2)vertical bar < vertical bar J/J(2)vertical bar and further restrictions. In addition, we consider exact complexes of projective modules with a non-projective image. Again, as in the commutative case, we see that if such a complex exists, then.. is self-injective or satisfies the condition vertical bar J(2)vertical bar = vertical bar J/J(2)vertical bar - 1. Also, we show that any non-projective semi-Gorensteinprojective module M satisfies Ext(1)(M, M) not equal 0. In this way, we prove the Auslander-Reiten conjecture (one of the classical homological conjectures) for arbitrary short local algebras. Many arguments used in the commutative case actually work in general, but there are interesting differences and some of our results may be new also in the commutative case.

Abstract:Factoring ideals in integral domains is a central topic in multiplicative ideal theory. In the present paper we study monoids of ideals and consider factorizations of ideals into multiplicatively irreducible ideals. The focus is on the monoid of nonzero divisorial ideals and on the monoid of $v$-invertible divisorial ideals in weakly Krull Mori domains. Under suitable algebraic finiteness conditions we establish arithmetical finiteness results, in particular for the monotone catenary degree and for the structure of sets of lengths and of their unions.

Algebraization Techniques and Rigid-Analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing

Abstract:First, we prove an algebraization result for rig-smooth algebras over a general noetherian ring; this positively answers the question raised in [Sta24, Tag 0GAX]. Then we prove a general partial algebraization result in non-archimedean geometry. The result says that we can always algebraize a geometrically reduced affinoid rigid-analytic space in "one direction" in an appropriate sense. As an application of this result, we show the remaining cases of the Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing for affinoid algebras, which were previously conjectured in [BM21, §7]. This allows us to deduce a stronger version of the rigid-analytic Artin-Grothendieck Vanishing Conjecture (see [Han20, Conj. 1.2]) over a field of characteristic 0. Using a completely different set of ideas, we also obtain a weaker version of this conjecture over a field of characteristic p>0.

A remark on the Galois-type correspondence between ideal coideals and comodule subrings of a Hopf algebroid

Abstract:We exhibit a bijective correspondence between certain left ideal coideals in a Hopf algebroid for which the resulting quotient is a coequalizer and certain right coideal subrings which are themselves an equalizer, remarkably improving a recent result of the author obtained in collaboration with L. El Kaoutit, A. Ghobadi and J. Vercruysse. Interpreting this result in the Hopf algebra setting provides a bijective correspondence which extends the previously known cases.

Abstract:In this article, we prove Grothendieck's Vanishing and Non-vanishing Theorems of local cohomology objects in the non-commutative algebraic geometry framework of Artin and Zhang. Let k be a field of characteristic zero and be a strongly locally noetherian k -linear Grothendieck category. For a commutative noetherian k -algebra R , let denote the category of R -objects in obtained through a non-commutative base change by R of the abelian category . First, we establish Grothendieck's Vanishing Theorem for any object in . Further, if R is local and is Hom-finite, we prove Non-vanishing Theorem for any finitely generated flat object in .

Unobstructedness and dimension of families of Gorenstein algebras

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to develop tools to study maximal families of Gorenstein quotients A of a polynomial ring R. We prove a very general Theorem on deformations of the homogeneous coordinate ring of a scheme Proj(A) which is defined as the degeneracy locus of a regular section of the dual of some sheaf M^~ of rank r supported on say an arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay subscheme Proj(B) of Proj(R). Under certain conditions (notably; M maximally Cohen-Macaulay and the top exterior power of M^~ a twist of the canonical sheaf), then A is Gorenstein, and under additional assumptions, we show the unobstructedness of A and we give an explicit formula the dimension of any maximal family of Gorenstein quotients of R with fixed Hilbert function obtained by a regular section as above. The theorem also applies to Artinian quotients A. The case where M itself is a twist of the canonical module (r=1) was studied in a previous paper, while this paper concentrates on other low rank cases, notably r=2 and 3. In these cases regular sections of the first Koszul homology module and of normal sheaves to licci schemes (of say codimension 2) lead to Gorenstein quotients (of e.g. codimension 4) whose parameter spaces we examine. Our main applications are for Gorenstein quotients of codimension 4 of R since our assumptions are almost always satisfied in this case. Special attention are paid to arithmetically Gorenstein curves in P^5.
