Abstract:A detailed study of the effects resulting in fluctuations and shifts of eigenfrequencies of optical cavities is necessary for their application in optical frequency, time, and length standards, experiments on high-precision laser spectroscopy and interferometry. Heating of mirrors by intracavity laser radiation can result in changes in the cavity optical path length due to thermal deformation, the thermo-optical effect, and light pressure. In this work, the effect of the first factor, i.e., thermal deformations of mirrors on ULE-cavity characteristics is considered and studied using the finite-element analysis. It is found that effect of mirror heating results in a shift in the temperature of the zero thermal expansion of monolithic high-stability cavities and can affect their stability due to temperature fluctuations.
