Abstract:Immersion cooling, known for its high heat transfer efficiency, uniform heat dissipation, and thermal runaway prevention, is currently one of the most promising battery thermal management technologies. This paper developed an immersion cooling battery module with manifold jet impingement, and used particle swarm algorithm for multi-objective optimization. And, as the heat generation of 280 Ah batteries is much complex, a 4-heat-source electro-thermal model were proposed to precisely simulate the heat generation during battery discharge processes. Compared with a conventional immersion module, the manifold jet impingement module further reduces the maximum temperature and improves temperature uniformity. During 1P discharge, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of the conventional module temperature is as low as 0.91, while that of the jet impingement module is only 0.44. Whereas, the pressure drop of the conventional and jet impingement module are 125.99 Pa and 99.82 Pa, respectively. Optimization shows that the battery volume ratio (BVR) value of the jet impingement module better ranging from 0.682 to 0.718. The optimal (volume flow rate, BVR) values are (4 L/min, 0.718) for 0.5P discharge, and (9.68 L/min, 0.717) for 1P discharge.
