Abstract:Recently, Niche [J. Differential Equations, 260 (2016), 4440–4453] established upper bounds on the decay rates of solutions to the 3D incompressible Navier–Stokes–Voigt equations in terms of the decay character r ∗ of the initial data in H 1 ( R 3 ). Motivated by this work, we focus on characterizing the large-time behavior of all space-time derivatives of the solutions for the 2D case and establish upper bounds and lower bounds on their decay rates by making use of the decay character and Fourier splitting methods. In particular, for the case − n 2 < r ∗ ⩽ 1, we verify the optimality of the upper bounds, which is new to the best of our knowledge. Similar improved decay results are also true for the 3D case.

Abstract:In this paper, we first generalize a new energy approach, developed by Y. Guo and Y. Wang \cite{GW12}, in the framework of homogeneous Besov spaces for proving the optimal temporal decay rates of solutions to the fractional power dissipative equation, then we apply this approach to the supercritical and critical quasi-geostrophic equation and the critical Keller-Segel system. We show that the negative Besov norm of solutions is preserved along time evolution, and obtain the optimal temporal decay rates of the spatial derivatives of solutions by the Fourier splitting approach and the interpolation techniques.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish temporal decay for a weak solution $u(x,t)$ (with initial data $u_0$) of the Navier-Stokes equations with supercritical fractional dissipation $\alpha \in (0,\frac{5}{4})$ in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and $\dot{H}^s(\mathbb{R}^3)$ ($s\leq0$). More precisely, we prove that $u$ satisfies the following upper bound: $$ \|u(t)\|_{2}^2\leq C(1+t)^{-\frac{3-2p}{2\alpha}}, \quad\forall t>0.$$ This estimate leads us to show the next inequality: $$ \|u(t)\|_{\dot{H}^{-\delta}}^2\leq C(1+t)^{-\frac{3-2\delta-2p}{2\alpha}}, \quad\forall t>0.$$ These results are obtained by applying standard Fourier Analysis and they hold for $\alpha\in(0,\frac{5}{4}),$ $p\in[-1,\frac{3}{2})$, $\delta\in [0, \frac{3-2p}{2})$ and $u_0\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)\cap \mathcal{Y}^p(\mathbb{R}^3)$ (and also $u_0\in L^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$ for $p=-1$ and a certain finite set of values of $\alpha$).

Abstract:In this paper, we derive decay rates of the solutions to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and Hall-magnetohydrodynamic equations. We first improve the decay rate of weak solutions of these equations by refining the Fourier splitting method with initial data in the space of pseudo-measures. We also deal with these equations with initial data in Lei-Lin spaces and find decay rates of solutions in Lei-Lin spaces.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the long time behavior of the solutions to the Cauchy problem of the three-dimensional compressible magneto-micropolar fluids. More precisely, we aim to establish the optimal rates of temporal decay for the highest-order spatial derivatives of the global strong solutions by the method of decomposing frequency. Our result can be regarded as the further investigation of the one in (Wei, Guo and Li in J. Differ. Equ. 263:2457–2480, 2017), in which the authors only provided the optimal rates of temporal decay for the lower-order spatial derivatives of the perturbations of both the velocity and the micro-rotational velocity.

The dissipation of this equation is given by the fractional Laplacian. It is known that the half Laplacian is a critical dissipation for the quasi-geostrophic equation. In this paper, far field asymptotics of solutions are given in the critical and the supercritical cases.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with decay of weak solutions of several well-known incompressible fluid models, such as the n-dimensional ( ) Navier–Stokes equations with fractional hyperviscosity, the three-dimensional convective Brinkman–Forchheimer equations and the generalized SQG equation. A new approach, different from the classical Fourier splitting method develpoed by Schonbek (Commun Partial Differ Equ 11:733–763, 1986) and the spectral representation technique by Kajikiya and Miyakawa (Math Z 192:135-148,1986), is presented. By using the new approach, we can recover and improve some known decay results.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the large-time behavior of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem for one-dimensional compressible isentropic magnetohydrodynamic equations near a stable equilibrium. The difference between the one-dimensional and multi-dimensional cases is a feature for compressible flows and also brings new difficulties. In contrast to the multi-dimensional case, the decay rates of nonlinear terms may not be faster than linear terms in dimension one. To handle this, we shall present a new energy estimate in terms of a combination of the solutions with small initial data. We aim to establish the sharp upper and lower bounds on the L 2 -decay rates of the solutions and all their spatial derivatives when the initial perturbation is small in L 1 (R) ∩ H 2 (R). It is worth noticing that there is no decay loss for the highest-order spatial derivatives of the solutions so that the large-time behavior for the hyperbolic-parabolic system is exactly sharp. As a byproduct, the above result is also valid for compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Our approach is based on various interpolation inequalities, energy estimates, spectral analysis, and Fourier time-splitting and high-low frequency decomposition methods.

Enhanced dissipation and temporal decay in the Euler-Poisson-Navier-Stokes equations

Abstract:This paper investigates the global well-posedness and large-time behavior of solutions for a coupled fluid model in $\mathbb{R}^3$ consisting of the isothermal compressible Euler-Poisson system and incompressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled through the drag force. Notably, we exploit the dissipation effects inherent in the Poisson equation to achieve a faster decay of fluid density compared to velocities. This strategic utilization of dissipation, together with the influence of the electric field and the damping structure induced by the drag force, leads to a remarkable decay behavior: the fluid density converges to equilibrium at a rate of $(1+t)^{-11/4}$, significantly faster than the decay rates of velocity differences $(1+t)^{-7/4}$ and velocities themselves $(1+t)^{-3/4}$ in the $L^2$ norm. Furthermore, under the condition of vanishing coupled incompressible flow, we demonstrate an exponential decay to a constant state for the solution of the corresponding system, the damped Euler-Poisson system.

Abstract:We describe the duality of incompressible Navier-Stokes fluid dynamics in three dimensions, leading to its reformulation in terms of a one-dimensional momentum loop equation. \textbf{The momentum loop equation does not have finite-time blow-up solutions.} The decaying turbulence is a solution of this equation equivalent to a string theory with discrete target space made of regular star polygons and Ising degrees of freedom on the sides. This string theory is solvable in the turbulent limit, equivalent to the quasiclassical approximation in a nontrivial calculable background. \textbf{As a result, the spectrum of decay indexes is analytically computed, and it agrees very well with real and numerical experiments. } Among the decay indexes, there are complex conjugate pairs related to zeros of the Riemann zeta function. The Kolmogorov scaling laws are replaced by certain number theory functions, which are nonlinear in the log-log scale.

Abstract:Forward self-similar and discretely self-similar weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations are known to exist globally in time for large self-similar and discretely self-similar initial data and are known to be regular outside of a space-time paraboloid. In this paper, we establish spatial decay rates for such solutions which hold in the region of regularity provided the initial data has locally sub-critical regularity away from the origin. In particular, we (1) lower the Hölder regularity of the data required to obtain an optimal decay rate for the nonlinear part of the flow compared to the existing literature, (2) establish new decay rates without logarithmic corrections for some smooth data, (3) provide new decay rates for solutions with rough data, and, as an application of our decay rates, (4) provide new upper bounds on how rapidly potentially {non-unique}, scaling invariant local energy solutions can separate away from the origin.

Abstract:The generalized three dimensional Navier–Stokes equations with damping are considered. Firstly, existence and uniqueness of strong solutions in the periodic domain are proved for . Then, in the whole space if the critical situation and if with , the decay rate of solution has been established. We give proofs of these two results, based on energy estimates and a series of interpolation inequalities, the key of this paper is to give an explanation for that on the premise of increasing damping term, the well-posedness and decay can still preserve at low dissipation and the relationship between dissipation and damping is given.

Global existence and optimal time decay rate to one-dimensional two-phase flow model

Abstract:We investigate the global existence and optimal time decay rate of solution to the one dimensional (1D) two-phase flow described by compressible Euler equations coupled with compressible Navier-Stokes equations through the relaxation drag force on the momentum equations. First, we prove the global existence of strong solution to 1D Euler-Navier-Stokes system by using the standard continuity argument for small $H^{1}$ data while the second order derivative can be large. Then we derive the optimal time decay rate to the equilibrium state $(\rho_*, 0, n_*, 0)$. Compared with multi-dimensional case, it is much hard to get time decay rate by direct spectrum method due to a slower convergence rate of the fundamental solution in 1D case. To overcome this main difficulty, we need to first carry out time-weighted energy estimates for higher order derivatives, and based on these time-weighted estimates, we can close a priori assumptions and get the optimal time decay rate by spectrum analysis method. Moreover, due to non-conserved form and insufficient decay rate of the coupled drag force terms between the two-phase flows, we essentially need to use momentum variables $(m= \rho u, M=n\omega)$, not velocity variables $(u, \omega)$ in the spectrum analysis, to fully cancel out those non-conserved and insufficiently decay drag force terms.

Abstract:In Guo and Wang (2012) [10] , Y. Guo and Y. Wang developed a general new energy method for proving the optimal time decay rates of the solutions to dissipative equations. In this paper, we generalize this method in the framework of homogeneous Besov spaces. Moreover, we apply this method to a model arising from electro-hydrodynamics, which is a strongly coupled system of the Navier–Stokes equations and the Poisson–Nernst–Planck equations through charge transport and external forcing terms. We show that some weighted negative Besov norms of solutions are preserved along time evolution, and obtain the optimal time decay rates of the higher-order spatial derivatives of solutions by the Fourier splitting approach and the interpolation techniques.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the long-time asymptotic behavior of the generalized two-dimensional quasi-geostrophic equation. More precisely, we obtain the sharp time-decay of the smooth solution of the generalized quasi-geostrophic equation with the sub-critical dissipation and the critical dissipation for the general initial data, and the sup-critical dissipation for the small initial data in the scale invariant Besov space. In addition, the sharp time-decay of any weak solution of the generalized quasi-geostrophic equation for the general initial data is also derived. Moreover, we also derive the decay estimates for the difference between the full solution and the solution to the corresponding linear part.

Abstract:This work is devoted to the optimal decay problem for the Euler-Poisson two-fluid system, which is a classical hydrodynamic model arising in semiconductor sciences. By exploring the influence of the electronic field on the dissipative structure, it is first revealed that the \textit{irrotationality} plays a key role such that the two-fluid system has the same dissipative structure as generally hyperbolic systems satisfying the Shizuta-Kawashima condition. The fact inspires us to give a new decay framework which pays less attention on the traditional spectral analysis. Furthermore, various decay estimates of solution and its derivatives of fractional order on the framework of Besov spaces are obtained by time-weighted energy approaches in terms of low-frequency and high-frequency decompositions. As direct consequences, the optimal decay rates of $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$-$L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{3})(1\leq p<2)$ type for the Euler-Poisson two-fluid system are also shown.

Abstract:We investigate a dissipative hyperbolic geometry flow in two space variables for which a new nonlinear wave equation is derived. Based on an energy method, the global existence of solutions to the dissipative hyperbolic geometry flow is established. Furthermore, the scalar curvature of the metric remains uniformly bounded. Moreover, under suitable assumptions, we establish the global existence of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem, and we show that the solution and its derivative decay to zero as the time tends to infinity. In addition, the scalar curvature of the solution metric converges to the one of the flat metric at an algebraic rate.
