Abstract:The microstructure and corrosion behavior of Inconel 718 alloy fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) are investigated in this study. Results showed that the as-built SLM samples consisted of Laves phase and γ matrix. The scanning space had a considerable influence on the corrosion resistance of the specimens. SS6 and SS9 specimens exhibited "active–passive–transpassive" shape in polarization plots while "active–passive" was displayed in SS7 and SS8. The corrosion current density of SS7 sample is 1.04 × 10 −8 μA/cm −2 , which is two orders of magnitude lower than that of SS9. The corrosion resistance of the samples obtained by different scanning spaces follows in the order of SS7 > SS8 > SS6 > SS9, which is mainly because the scanning space of near or equals the laser diameter eliminates the defects SLM process. Corrosion morphology observations showed that the corrosion pits and obvious cracking occur on SS6 and SS9 after polarization test while slight corrosion emerged on the surfaces of SS7 and SS8 samples. The passivation film formed on Inconel 718 alloys and unveiled a two-layer structure with an external porous layer consisting of Ni/Cr/Fe oxides and a compact inner layer with Mo/Nb-rich oxides.
