Abstract:Corrosion postures a persistent and costly challenge in numerous industries, which necessitates the development of robust and efficient anticorrosive coatings to protect these structures and equipment employing innovative materials and technologies which became paramount to enhance their longevity and performance. The perception of core-shell technology can play a pivotal role in this approach; consequently the incorporation of core-shell pigments has emerged as a significant advancement in the field of corrosion protection, especially anticorrosive coatings. In this work, encapsulating sand particles which is accessible in many areas in the world with affordable price and is a main source of silica within protective shell comprising cobalt and zinc oxides resulted in the preparation of cobalt‐zinc oxides @Sand core-shell pigment that can offer remarkable anticorrosive properties due to the synergistic effect of combining zinc and cobalt oxides, which can enhance better performance of the coatings in their corrosion protection action. Therefore, this work explored the utilization of these new core-shell pigments as revenues to enhance the performance of anticorrosive coatings, by integrating them into coating formulations, and evaluating their performance using electrochemical techniques, namely Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Linear Polarization Resistance (LPR) under different pH conditions in different exposure media to evaluate their performance and behavior. The obtained results revealed that, the incorporation of these prepared pigments in the coating formulations enhanced significantly the corrosion resistance and reduced the corrosion of the used steel.
