Abstract:Abstract With the continuous development of economy, communication is increasing between China and overseas, and business activities are becoming more and more frequent. In this process, foreign trade English plays an important role. Foreign trade English is unique, professional and practical. Under different scenes of foreign trade, English words can express different meanings. In the course of trade, foreign trade English can help both of parties to communicate, and can achieve the translation of language, the interpretation of contract, the understanding of letter and so on. In the process of language communication and reading important documents, we need a solid foundation of English language and profound foreign cultural background, and have a strong ability to deal with the professional knowledge of international trade and the use of English vocabulary. The characteristics of foreign trade English language are analyzed in terms of vocabulary, style and grammar. At the same time, in the process of language understanding and translation, we need to meet the requirements of real-time. With the frequent exchange of foreign trade between our country and other countries, a large number of English documents will be produced, the relevant departments have put forward higher requirements for the accuracy of these documents and real time of these documents, the traditional manual translation can not meet the growing demand for foreign trade translation. With the help of computer aided-translation software memoQ, we help people do auxiliary translation, therefore, it can reduce translator’s burden and improve the accuracy of translation and efficiency of translation. We select a large number of texts and adopt memoQ software to translate, so as to analyze the role of computer-aided translation software in the translation process of English documents.

Abstract:Abstract Non-literary translation involves every area of social life, including politics, economics, law, scientific technology, culture. No matter what position non-literary translation possesses in history, its current absolute advantage is undeniable. For China, as the globalization accelerates and international contact increases, almost all government institutions have set up foreign affairs sections as well as the Foreign Ministry which is the specialized foreign contact institution. Translation is also indispensability for multinational corporations and large business to conduct crossborder production, procurement and marketing. It is also important in international contact of the research institutions and non-government organizations. All the translations these institutions need are non-literary translation.This thesis includes the basic principle of plain English and the method to deal with the sentences and the method to simplify the translations. It explores the method to make the non-literary translation simple and clear.

The study begins by introducing the concept of Chinese legal texts and their unique characteristics. It then examines the theoretical underpinnings of translation studies, with a focus on the concept of equivalence and the different translation methods. The paper then analyzes the challenges and strategies involved in translating Chinese legal texts into English, considering factors such as cultural differences, legal terminology, and narrative style. Finally, the paper proposes a translation path for Chinese legal texts that incorporates both fidelity and creativity. Abstract:Translation studies conducted since China’s reform and opening up has played a pivotal role in the establishment of translation as a discipline in this country.Whether in introducing insightful theoretical perspectives on the translational practice,laying a conceptual foundation for the discipline,promoting translation-related pedagogy, enriching the teaching of foreign languages,fostering a historical understanding of the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries,or enhancing China’s soft power,remarkable achievements have been made by Chinese translation scholars.Having gained its disciplinary status and succeeded in refuting popularly held misassumptions such as"translation is not amenable to theory"or"theories of translation are useless,"however,how translation studies should further develop itself in China poses a formidable challenge to its practitioners.This paper takes up the challenge by reflecting on some of the burning issues of the moment,including those over the exclusive adoption of the cultural approach to the study of translation,the dearth of translation-specific theoretical sources,and the subordination of translation to some better established disciplines.
A Study on English-Chinese Translation of Business Contracts Based on the Functional Equivalence Theory

Abstract:This study explores the translation of business English contracts from English to Chinese from the perspective of functional equivalence. The functional equivalence theory involves three aspects of functional equivalence: lexical equivalence, sentential equivalence, and textual equivalence. As far as translation is concerned, translators adopt different translation techniques for different types of texts, striving to achieve equivalence in lexical, sentential, and textual functions. Therefore, translators are to recognize the different characteristics of business English contracts and highlight English translation styles and characteristics with the help of the functional equivalence theory.

Abstract:Abstract Document translation in the context of the Unite Nations, which involves a colossal system of documentation with a huge variety of subject-matters, should be considered as a specialised translating activity. A relevant theoretical framework is needed to explore and contribute to the actual practices on the ground, much remaining to be done in this respect, though. The present study attempts to explore the possibility of precise understanding of source text and its accurate rendering into target language, by focusing on some aspects of the text linguistics as the theoretical reference points, and based on the empirical evidences in the English to Chinese translation of the UN documents. It tries to explore how much the role of text or discourse analysis can play in the study, and hopefully in the contributions to the quality improvement, of such a specialised activity as UN document translation.

Abstract:In recent years, the numbers of bilingual advertising texts have increased in China’s international maritime exhibitions. Nevertheless, the shortcomings in wording and phrasing, usage of translation strategies and intercultural communication in these China English texts are not only contrary to the Plain English Movement which advocated a more concise and economical use of words and sentences in the late 20th century, but also adversely affect the Belt and Road Initiative as well as intercultural communication. In this paper, various promotional material collected from major maritime-related English exhibitions in China over the past three years will be taken as examples. This paper will adopt the discourse analysis theory to summarize the problems of redundancy, Chinglish, misuse of translation strategies and mismanagement of intercultural conflict in relevant bilingual advertisements. The paper then suggests a series of ways for improvement in order to improve the quality of China English texts as well as promote intercultural communication.

Brief Discussion of the Translation of International Business Contracts

Abstract:In the activities of international business trade, business contract has become an important legal document. Nowadays, business English has become not only a necessary tool for communication, but also the base of English business contracts. More and more English-learners and law-majors hope they can know something about English business contracts so as to understand them correctly, translate them exactly and make them perfectly. China’s entering the WTO enhances their desire to use English to solve the problems of business contracts. There are many different kinds of international business contracts, whose contents are diversified and complicated. In international trade, translation is compulsory since contracts usually need two versions: English and Chinese. The international business contract has its own characters, such as proper arrangement, standardization and specialty. All these make the translation of them very difficult and thus demand good skills to ensure a high quality. This article analyzes the preciseness, strictness and standardization of business contracts and explores the skills of translating them by citing many examples. It also points out some common translation errors, the reasons and the methods to correct the errors. Finally some advice is given to call readers attention to the problems in translation.

Abstract:Since the reform and opening-up policy, the whole world has witnessed China’s setting-off. In addition to the economic boom, China also lays stress on strengthening her culture soft power in the outside world. Hence, an increasing number of words with Chinese characteristics have appeared. In regard to the translation of these Chinese-characterized words, lots of translators and scholars have put forward different translating methods. From the perspective of functional equivalence theory, in most cases, due to the differences of cultural background and linguistic customs between Chinese and English, it is impossible to reach total equivalence in form and meaning. On this occasion, the translator can choose a suitable approach to reach the functional equivalence. Through analyzing the translation of Chinese-characterized terms, the author tries to explain these useful methods from the perspective of functional equivalence.

Abstract:In translation studies, the role of the translator is becoming more and more conspicuous. Despite the fact that translation is a transfer from one language to another, especially a semantic one, the role of the translator is, on no account, a simple proxy of technological communication or a passive transcultural mediator. During recent years, scholars have conducted an array of researches on translation process, from the perspective of linguistics, cognitive psychology, psychological linguistics, etc. As for translation process, it is imperative that the translator take various questions into consideration, such as the characteristics of the target language, the cultural factors of the target language, the perception of the original text, the translator’s habits, etc. The English translation of Yuewei Caotang Biji by Yi Izzy Yu and John Yu Branscum has been conceived of as popular in the English world, and has achieved superb effect of transcultural communication. This translated work’s strategy of translating as editing has substantial effects in its’ success, which renders this book easily available to readers in the target culture.

Translation is a speech activity that re-expresses what is expressed in the first language (source language) in a second language (target language), hence, the consideration of the cultural issues will be essential. In the process of English-Chinese translation, the application of form and meaning in English and Chinese is not absolutely separated, that is, Chinese is not only expressed in terms of meaning and English is not only expressed in form. We provide the novel suggestions for the translation methods considering the culture which will guide the translation performance.

Abstract:This paper provides a brief introduction of domestication and foreignization as well as an exploration into both strategies in the Chinese-English translation of the white paper on anti-corruption through which the feasibility of adopting them can be exemplified, expounded on and justified while attention can be drawn to these two strategies when other translators are reading its English version or translating similar documents. It attempts to explore the reasons behind the choice of the two strategies and to provide different categories of examples with the intention of helping other translators understand well under what circumstances domestication or foreignization should be adopted.

Abstract:целью данного исследования является анализ перевода китайских фольклорных фраз на английский язык с учетом их использования в дипломатическом дискурсе. В ходе работы производится систематизация и классификация таких фраз с последующим анализом их трансформации при переводе. Научная новизна исследования заключается в выявлении специфических стратегий и техник перевода культурно-значимых выражений в контексте дипломатических коммуникаций, что позволяет расширить понимание механизмов культурного обмена и взаимодействия в международном дипломатическом общении. Результаты исследования представлены в виде аналитического обзора ключевых аспектов перевода китайских фольклорных фраз на английский язык в дипломатическом контексте, а также разработки рекомендаций по эффективному использованию переводных стратегий для достижения максимальной коммуникативной ясности и эффективности в обмене между культурами. the purpose of this study is to analyze the translation of Chinese folk phrases into English, taking into account their use in diplomatic discourse. In the course of the work, such phrases are systematized and classified, followed by an analysis of their transformation during translation. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the identification of specific strategies and techniques for translating culturally significant expressions in the context of diplomatic communications, which allows us to expand our understanding of the mechanisms of cultural exchange and interaction in international diplomatic communication. The results of the study are presented in the form of an analytical overview of key aspects of translating Chinese folk phrases into English in a diplomatic context, as well as developing recommendations for the effective use of translation strategies to achieve maximum communicative clarity and efficiency in exchanges between cultures.
