Abstract:An alternative concept of the basic invariants is introduced. The Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory is extended to obtain a generalized invariant formulation. The formulation is then used to establish four facts: (i) Any invariant for a quantum system can be constructed in terms of the basic invariants. (ii) It is possible to introduce a solution-generating technique by making use of the basic invariants. (iii) The path integral in the generalized invariant formulation reduces to an ordinary integral. (iv) The study of noncyclic evolution of a quantum system reduces explicitly to the study of the cyclic evolution. Finally, phase factors and general solution for the driven generalized time-dependent harmonic oscillator are studied as an illustrative example.

Abstract:We establish a noncommutative analogue of the first fundamental theorem of classical invariant theory. For each quantum group associated with a classical Lie algebra, we construct a noncommutative associative algebra whose underlying vector space forms a module for the quantum group and whose algebraic structure is preserved by the quantum group action. The subspace of invariants is shown to form a subalgebra, which is finitely generated. We determine generators of this subalgebra of invariants and determine their commutation relations. In each case considered, the noncommutative modules we construct are flat deformations of their classical commutative analogues. Our results are therefore noncommutative generalisations of the first fundamental theorem of classical invariant theory, which follows from our results by taking the limit as q -> 1. Our method similarly leads to a definition of quantum spheres, which is a noncommutative generalisation of the classical case with orthogonal quantum group symmetry.

Abstract:We describe the -invariant of a semisimple algebraic group over a generic splitting field of a Tits algebra of in terms of the -invariant over the base field. As a consequence we prove a 10-year-old conjecture of Quéguiner-Mathieu, Semenov, and Zainoulline on the -invariant of groups of type . In the case of type we also provide explicit formulas for the first component and in some cases for the second component of the -invariant.

Abstract:This paper studies quantum symmetric pairs associated with quasi-split Satake diagrams of affine type with a nontrivial diagram involution fixing the affine simple node. Various real and imaginary root vectors for the universal quantum groups are constructed with the help of the relative braid group action, and they are used to construct affine rank one subalgebras of . We then establish relations among real and imaginary root vectors in different affine rank one subalgebras and use them to give a Drinfeld type presentation of .

Invariant Geometric Structures on Almost Abelian Lie Groups

Abstract:An almost Abelian group is a non-Abelian Lie group with a codimension 1 Abelian subgroup. This paper investigates invariant Hermitian and Kähler structures on connected complex almost Abelian groups. We find explicit formulas for the left and right Haar measures, the modular function, and left and right generator vector fields on simply connected complex almost Abelian groups. From the generator fields, we obtain invariant vector and tensor field frames, allowing us to find an explicit form for all invariant tensor fields. Namely, all such invariant tensor fields have constant coefficients in the invariant frame. From this, we classify all invariant Hermitian forms on complex simply connected almost Abelian groups, and we prove the nonexistence of invariant Kähler forms on all such groups. Via constructions involving the pullback of the quotient map, we extend the explicit description of invariant Hermitian structures and the nonexistence of Kähler structures to connected almost Abelian groups.

Abstract:We provide a geometric realization of the quasi-split affine $\imath$quantum group of type AIII$_{2n-1}^{(\tau)}$ in terms of equivariant K-groups of non-connected Steinberg varieties of type C. This uses a new Drinfeld type presentation of this affine $\imath$quantum group which admits very nontrivial Serre relations. We then construct à la Springer a family of finite-dimensional standard modules and irreducible modules of this $\imath$quantum group, and provide a composition multiplicity formula of the standard modules.

Vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions

Abstract: Determination of quasi-invariant generalized functions is important for a variety of problems in representation theory, notably character theory and restriction problems. In this note, we review some new and easy-to-use techniques to show vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions, developed in the recent work of the authors (Uniqueness of Ginzburg-Rallis models: the Archimedean case, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 363, (2011), 2763-2802). The first two techniques involve geometric notions attached to submanifolds, which we call metrical properness and unipotent $\chi$-incompatibility. The third one is analytic in nature, and it arises from the first occurrence phenomenon in Howe correspondence. We also highlight how these techniques quickly lead to two well-known uniqueness results, on trilinear forms and Whittaker models.
An intrinsic approach to relative braid group symmetries on $\imath$quantum groups

Abstract:We initiate a general approach to the relative braid group symmetries on (universal) $\imath$quantum groups, arising from quantum symmetric pairs of arbitrary finite types, and their modules. Our approach is built on new intertwining properties of quasi $K$-matrices which we develop and braid group symmetries on (Drinfeld double) quantum groups. Explicit formulas for these new symmetries on $\imath$quantum groups are obtained. We establish a number of fundamental properties for these symmetries on $\imath$quantum groups, strikingly parallel to their well-known quantum group counterparts. We apply these symmetries to fully establish rank one factorizations of quasi $K$-matrices, and this factorization property in turn helps to show that the new symmetries satisfy relative braid relations. As a consequence, conjectures of Kolb-Pellegrini and Dobson-Kolb are settled affirmatively. Finally, the above approach allows us to construct compatible relative braid group actions on modules over quantum groups for the first time.

On certain invariants of compact quantum groups

Abstract:We introduce and study a number of invariants of locally compact quantum groups defined by their scaling and modular groups and the spectrum of their modular elements. Focusing mainly on compact quantum groups we consider the question whether triviality of one of the invariants is equivalent to the quantum group being of Kac type and show that it has a positive answer in many cases including duals of second countable type $\mathrm{I}$ discrete quantum groups. We perform a complete calculation of the invariants for all $q$-deformations of compact, simply connected, semisimple Lie groups as well as for some non-compact quantum groups and the compact quantum groups $\operatorname{U}_F^+$. Finally we introduce a family of conditions for discrete quantum groups which for classical discrete groups are all equivalent to the fact that the group is i.c.c. We show that the above mentioned question about characterization of Kac type quantum groups by one of our invariants has a positive answer for duals of discrete quantum groups satisfying such an i.c.c.-type condition and illustrate this with the example of $\operatorname{U}_F^+$.

Infinite Dimensional Analysis Quantum Probability and Related Topics

Abstract:Infinite Dimensional Analysis, Quantum Probability and Related Topics, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we develop the theory of quasi-invariant (respectively, strongly quasi-invariant) states under the action of a group [math] of normal ∗-automorphisms of a ∗-algebra (or von Neumann algebra) [math]. We prove that these states are naturally associated to left-[math]-[math]-cocycles. If [math] is compact, the structure of strongly [math]-quasi-invariant states is determined. For any [math]-strongly quasi-invariant state [math], we construct a unitary representation associated to the triple [math]. We prove, under some conditions, that any quantum Markov chain with commuting, invertible and Hermitian conditional density amplitudes on a countable tensor product of type I factors is strongly quasi-invariant with respect to the natural action of the group [math] of local permutations and we give the explicit form of the associated cocycle. This provides a family of nontrivial examples of strongly quasi-invariant states for locally compact groups obtained as inductive limit of an increasing sequence of compact groups.

Topological invariance of quantum homogeneous spaces of type $B$ and $D$

Abstract:In this article, we study two families of quantum homogeneous spaces, namely, $SO_q(2n+1)/SO_q(2n-1)$, and $SO_q(2n)/SO_q(2n-2)$. By applying a two-step Zhelobenko branching rule, we show that the $C^*$-algebras $C(SO_q(2n+1)/SO_q(2n-1))$, and $C(SO_q(2n)/SO_q(2n-2))$ are generated by the entries of the first and the last rows of the fundamental matrix of the quantum groups $SO_q(2n+1)$, and $SO_q(2n)$, respectively. We then construct a chain of short exact sequences, and using that, we compute $K$-groups of these spaces with explicit generators. Invoking homogeneous $C^*$-extension theory, we show $q$-independence of some intermediate $C^*$-algebras arising as the middle $C^*$-algebra of these short exact sequences. As a consequence, we get the $q$-invariance of $SO_q(5)/SO_q(3)$ and $SO_q(6)/SO_q(4)$.

Abstract:We construct quantum supersymmetric pairs $({\bold U},{\bold U}^\imath)$ of type AIII and elucidate their fundamental properties. An $\imath$Schur duality between the $\imath$quantum supergroup ${\bold U}^\imath$ and the Hecke algebra of type B acting on a tensor space is established, providing a super generalization of the $\imath$Schur duality of type AIII. Additionally, we construct a (quasi) $K$-matrix for arbitrary parameters, which facilitates the realization of the Hecke algebra action on the tensor space.

Abstract:We consider families of chain-cochain infinite complexes $\mathcal C$ of spaces with elements depending on a number of parameters, and endowed with a converging associative multiple product. The existence of left/right local/non-local square-vanishing ideals is assumed for subspaces of $\mathcal C$-spaces. We show that a set of differential and orthogonality relations together with coherence conditions on indices of a chain-cochain complex $\mathcal C$ elements generates families of graded differential algebras. With the appropriate orthogonality conditions on completions of $\mathcal C$ elements in the multiple product, we define the equivalence classes of cohomology invariants.

Abstract:A string basis is constructed for each subalgebra of invariants of the function algebra on the quantum special linear group. By analyzing the string basis for a particular subalgebra of invariants, we obtain a ``canonical basis'' for every finite dimensional irreducible $U_q({\mathfrak{sl}}(n))$-module. It is also shown that the algebra of functions on any quantum homogeneous space is generated by quantum minors.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to construct new topological invariants of compact oriented 3-manifolds and of framed links in such manifolds. Our invariant of (a link in) a closed oriented 3-manifold is a sequence of complex numbers parametrized by complex roots of 1. For a framed link in S 3 the terms of the sequence are equale to the values of the (suitably parametrized) Jones polynomial of the link in the corresponding roots of 1. Thus, for links in S 3 our invariants are essentially equivalent to the Jones polynomial [Jo]. Note that in general we do not know if our invariant of (a framed link in) a closed oriented 3-manifold may be described as the sequence of values of a certain polynomial in the roots of unity. In the case of manifolds with boundary our invariant is a (sequence of) finite dimensional complex linear operators. This produces from each root of unity q a 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory (see [A1]). In particular, for each q we associate with every closed oriented surface a finite dimensional complex linear space. We construct a projective action of the modular group of the surface in this space. Our constructions have been partially inspired by the ideas of E. Witten [Wi] who considered quantum field theory defined by the nonabelian ChernSimons action and applied it to study the topology of 3-manifolds. Using this quantum field theory, Witten has defined (on the physical level of rigor) certain invariants of 3-manifolds and links in 3-manifolds. The constructions of Witten strongly suggested that there may exist a parallel mathematical theory. We believe that our invariants may be viewed as a mathematical realization of the Witten's program.

Abstract:Invariant integrals on Hopf superalgebras, in particular, the classical and quantum Lie supergroups, are studied. The uniqueness (up to scalar multiples) of a left integral is proved, and a super version of Maschke's theorem is discussed. A construction of left integrals is developed for classical and quantum Lie supergroups. Applied to several classes of examples the construction yields the left integrals in explicit form.
