Abstract:Co-crystal of 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20)/2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) is a low-sensitivity and high-energy explosive obtained recently by combining 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20) and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) molecules by the co-crystallization technique. However, the underlying properties and decay mechanism remain unclear. In this work, we performed quantum-based multiscale shock simulation under shock loading by self-consistent charge density-functional tight binding method to study the initial chemical mechanism of CL-20/TNT. The results demonstrate that the temperature and pressure increase with decrease in volume when the shock strength increases constantly. The initial decomposition steps CL-20 and TNT molecules in co-crystal are consistent with the decomposition steps when they are pure crystal, N-NO2 bond cleavage at low velocity is observed while is inhibited at high velocity for CL-20 molecule, H transfer and C-NO2 bond break of TNT molecule are main initial decay step. Meanwhile, CL-20 decomposes faster than TNT and the releasing heat of CL-20 decomposition is transferred to TNT to increase the decomposition rate of TNT during the shock decomposition. Moreover, the evolution of the main stable products strongly depends on the shock strength. NO2 is the dominant primary intermediate resulting from a weak bond barrier, and CO, N-2, NO, among others are the main products determined by the shock strength. This study provides new insights into the initial decomposition mechanism of CL-20/TNT upon shock loading at the atomic level and has important implications for understanding and development of energetic materials.
Towards the Low-Sensitive and High-Energetic Co-Crystal Explosive CL-20/TNT: from Intermolecular Interactions to Structures and Properties

Abstract:Employing molecular dynamic (MD) simulations and solid-state density functional theory (DFT), we carried out thorough studies to understand the interaction-structure-property interrelationship of the co-crystal explosive 1:1 CL-20:TNT. Our results revealed that the co-crystallization of CL-20 and TNT molecules enhances the intermolecular binding forces, where the main driving force for the formation of the co-crystal CL-20/TNT comes from HO and CO interactions, while OO contributes to the co-crystal stabilization. Furthermore, we also used the concept of atoms in molecule (AIM) and the reduced density gradient (RDG) to describe the spatial arrangements and interactions of co-crystal compositions, which showed that although the adjoining TNT molecules possess two symmetry groups and the adjoining CL-20 molecules possess the same symmetry group, their interactions are not identical. These spatial arrangements provide a good reference to the formation of other co-crystals. When the obtained structural and detonation properties of the three crystals were compared, it was observed that the CL-20/TNT co-crystal achieved the desirable properties of explosives, i.e., low-sensitivity and high-energy, possessing the advantages of both CL-20 and TNT explosives.

Abstract:Abstract The thermal decomposition process of CL-20/TNT co-crystal in different compression states is simulated by ReaxFF reactive molecular dynamics method. Co-crystals models with different degrees of compression are obtained under four pressures of atmospheric pressure, 4.6GPa, 9.2GPa and 18.4GPa. The potential energy evolution, product formation and cluster evolution in the process are analyzed. We find that the formation of clusters is the key to the decomposition process. When the system is compressed, there will be more clusters which can bind the free atoms, resulting in the reaction to be inhibited. Other evolution information conforms this.

Abstract:High-energy low-sensitivity explosives are research objectives in the field of energetic materials, and the formation of cocrystals is an important method to improve the safety of explosives. However, the sensitivity reduction mechanism of cocrystal explosives is still unclear. In this study, CL-20/TNT, CL-20 and TNT crystals were taken as research objects. On the basis of the ReaxFF-lg reactive force field, the propagation process of the wave front in the crystals at different impact velocities was simulated. The molecular dynamics data were used to analyze the molecular structure changes and initial chemical reactions, and to explore the sensitivity reduction mechanism of the CL-20/TNT cocrystal. The results showed that the chemical reaction of the CL-20/TNT cocrystal, compared with the CL-20 single crystal, is different under different impact velocities. At an impact velocity of 2 km/s, polymerization and separation of the component molecules weakened the decomposition of CL-20. At an impact velocity of 3 km/s, the decay rates of CL-20 and TNT in the cocrystal decreased, and the intermediate products were enhanced, such as nitrogen oxides. At an impact velocity of 4 km/s, the cocrystal had little effect on the decay rates of the molecules and formation of CO2, but it enhanced formation of N2 and H2O. This may explain the reason for the impact-sensitivity reduction of the CL-20/TNT cocrystal.

Abstract:Molecular dynamics simulations in conjunction with multiscale shock technique (MSST) are performed to study the initial chemical processes and the anisotropy of shock sensitivity of the condensed-phase HMX under shock loadings applied along the a, b, and c lattice vectors. A self-consistent charge density-functional tight-binding (SCC-DFTB) method was employed. Our results show that there is a difference between lattice vector a (or c) and lattice vector b in the response to a shock wave velocity of 11 km/s, which is investigated through reaction temperature and relative sliding rate between adjacent slipping planes. The response along lattice vectors a and c are similar to each other, whose reaction temperature is up to 7000 K, but quite different along lattice vector b, whose reaction temperature is only up to 4000 K. When compared with shock wave propagation along the lattice vectors a (18 Å/ps) and c (21 Å/ps), the relative sliding rate between adjacent slipping planes along lattice vector b is only 0.2 Å/ps. Thus, the small relative sliding rate between adjacent slipping planes results in the temperature and energy under shock loading increasing at a slower rate, which is the main reason leading to less sensitivity under shock wave compression along lattice vector b. In addition, the C-H bond dissociation is the primary pathway for HMX decomposition in early stages under high shock loading from various directions. Compared with the observation for shock velocities V(imp) = 10 and 11 km/s, the homolytic cleavage of N-NO2 bond was obviously suppressed with increasing pressure.

Abstract:The cocrystallization of high-energy explosives has attracted great interests since it can alleviate to a certain extent the power-safety contradiction. 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaaza-isowurtzitane (CL-20), one of the most powerful explosives, has attracted much attention for researchers worldwide. However, the disadvantage of CL-20 has increased sensitivity to mechanical stimuli and cocrystallization of CL-20 with other compounds may provide a way to decrease its sensitivity. The intermolecular interaction of five types of CL-20-based cocrystal (CL-20/TNT, CL-20/HMX, CL-20/FOX-7, CL-20/TKX-50 and CL-20/DNB) by using molecular dynamic simulation was reviewed. The preparation methods and thermal decomposition properties of CL-20-based cocrystal are emphatically analyzed. Special emphasis is focused on the improved mechanical performances of CL-20-based cocrystal, which are compared with those of CL-20. The existing problems and challenges for the future work on CL-20-based cocrystal are discussed.

Abstract:The study of CL-20 co-crystal has always been a focal point within the field of energetic material modification. In this study, we employed the density functional method and molecular dynamics method to investigate the properties of hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20)/ 2,4,6-trinitro-3-bromoanisole (TNBA) with different molar ratios ranging from 9:1–1:9. This investigation encompassed surface electrostatic potential, atomic interaction line, binding energy, trigger bond length, radial distribution function, cohesive energy density, and mechanical properties. Additionally, EXPLO-5 software was utilized to predict the detonation properties and products of pure CL-20, TNBA, and CL-20/TNBA systems. The results revealed significant differences in the surface electrostatic potential between CL-20 and TNBA molecules, indicating stronger interactions between different molecules than between identical molecules and suggesting the potential for co-crystal formation. At the molar ratio of 5:5, the binding energy was found to be the highest, signifying the most likely formation of a co-crystal. The main driving forces for co-crystal formation were electrostatic force and van der Waals force. The co-crystal explosive exhibited moderate sensitivity and excellent mechanical properties. Furthermore, the co-crystal detonation performance at a molar ratio of 5:5 was between that of CL-20 and TNBA, representing a new type of insensitive high-energy material.

Abstract:AbstractThe crystal models of trans-1,4,5,8-tetranitro-1,4,5,8-tetraazadecalin (TNAD), hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20), and CL-20/TNAD cocrystal explosive with different component ratios were established. Molecular dynamics (MD) method was applied to predict the stability, sensitivity, energetic properties, and mechanical properties. The effect of component ratio on properties of CL-20/TNAD cocrystal explosive was investigated and estimated. Results show that the cocrystal model with component ratio in 1:1 exhibits the highest binding energy and it is more stable. In CL-20/TNAD cocrystal explosive, the interaction energy of trigger bond is increased by 0.8 ~ 15.0 kJ/mol, implying that the mechanical sensitivity of CL-20/TNAD cocrystal explosive is lower than CL-20 and the safety is effectively improved. Compared with raw CL-20, the crystal density of cocrystal explosive is declined by 0.014 ~ 0.193 g/cm3, detonation velocity is declined by 39 ~ 755 m/s, and detonation pressure is declined by 0.95 ~ 11.40 GPa; namely the energy density of CL-20/TNAD cocrystal explosive is lower than CL-20. The cocrystal explosives with component ratio in 10:1 ~ 1:1 still exhibit desirable detonation performance and can be regarded as high energy density explosives. The values of tensile modulus, shear modulus, and bulk modulus of CL-20/TNAD cocrystal explosive are decreased by 0.448 ~ 10.285 GPa, 0.195 ~ 4.189 GPa, and 0.194 ~ 6.292 GPa, respectively, Cauchy pressure is increased by 0.990 ~ 5.704 GPa, meaning that the rigidity, fracture strength, and hardness of cocrystal explosive are declined, while the plastic property and ductility are increased and the mechanical properties are improved. The cocrystal model with component ratio in 1:1 has the best mechanical properties. Consequently, the CL-20/TNAD cocrystal explosive with component ratio in 1:1 is more stable and insensitive; it also has high energy density and the best mechanical properties and may be an attractive candidate for high energy explosives.

Preparation and Characterization of Nano-CL-20/TNT Cocrystal Explosives by Mechanical Ball-Milling Method

Abstract:Nano-CL-20/TNT cocrystal explosive was successfully prepared by mechanical ball milling with 0.38 mm grinding beads. The micromorphology and particle size of cocrystal explosive were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The average particle size of nano-CL-20/TNT cocrystal explosive was 119.5 nm and showed a spherical-like micromorphology. The crystal structure of cocrystal explosive was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The results show that mechanical ball milling does not change the molecular structure of the raw material, but the sample after ball milling has a new crystal phase, rather than a simple mixing of raw materials. Differential scanning calorimetry tests show that nano-CL-20/TNT cocrystal explosive has a higher decomposition temperature; impact sensitivity tests show that the properties of cocrystal explosive are 26 and 21.7 cm higher than those of CL-20 and CL-20/TNT mixture, respectively, which indicates that nano-CL-20/TNT cocrystal explosive has better thermal stability and safety.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:CL-20 (2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane)-based cocrystals are attractive energetic cocrystals with a potential for high energy and low sensitivity, which account for nearly one-third of energetic cocrystals. The applications of cocrystal explosives require in-depth understanding of their thermal kinetics behaviors. Although thermal kinetics of the decomposition of CL-20-based cocrystals having no melting point have been studied, relevant research of CL-20-based cocrystals having a melting point, which are also the most frequently observed type, is still rare. In this study, the CL-20/MTNP (1-methyl-3,4,5-trinitropyrazole) cocrystal was chosen as a typical CL-20-based cocrystal having a melting point to investigate its thermal kinetics behavior. The thermal decomposition of CL-20/MTNP was identified to be a typical heterogeneous reaction with phase separation before decomposition. Due to the presence of intermolecular hydrogen bonds between CL-20 and molten MTNP after phase separation, the thermal decomposition behavior of CL-20/MTNP was strongly temperature-dependent. The complex decomposition reaction was separated into its three constituent pathways to simplify the kinetic analysis. On the basis of in-depth understanding of the decomposition process, the best functions of mechanism and kinetic parameters for each process of CL-20/MTNP decomposition were obtained using the model-fitting method. Finally, important thermal safety indicators, such as TMRad and SADT were simulated by combining the established kinetic models. This study provides further insights into the entire reaction process of the CL-20/MTNP cocrystal and would help in its better applications.

Abstract:To understand the initial chemical reaction mechanism of the heterogeneous explosive hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20), it is necessary to study the shock initiation mechanism of this nanovoid-containing crystal. In this paper, supercells of CL-20 with different void sizes were constructed. The chemical reactions induced by different impact velocities were calculated using molecular dynamics based on the ReaxFF-lg reactive force field. The effects of impact velocities and void sizes on the chemical reactions of the CL-20 crystal were discussed. The initial reaction of CL-20 molecules around the voids was analyzed, and the evolution of the formation and breakage of chemical bonds as well as the elementary reactions were also obtained. It is found that under an impact, the CL-20 molecules around the voids first undergo polymerization of the N–O bonds and then breakage of the C–N, N–N, and C–H bonds occurs. Increased void size and impact velocity lead to higher temperature "hot spots" and more intense chemical reactions, but have little effect on the breaking sequence of chemical bonds in the CL-20 molecules.
Structural evolution of CL-20/DNB cocrystals at high temperature: Phase transition and kinetics of thermal decomposition

Abstract:As a typical new energetic material, CL-20/DNB cocrystals have been recognized as a promising explosive owing to their excellent comprehensive performance. The thermal decomposition behavior, structural evolution and dynamic process of CL-20/DNB cocrystals under high temperature were studied by means of thermogravimetric differential heating, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy to gain insight into the cocrystal materials. The study found that the decomposition of CL-20/DNB cocrystal is a heterogeneous process accompanied by the sublimation of DNB and structural change of CL-20. The phase transition of β → γ-CL-20 was observed at 120 °C. The kinetics of decomposition and the mechanism of micro structural evolution on CL-20/DNB cocrystals with heating were revealed. The primary NO⋯H hydrogen bonds of the cocrystal are broken, accompanied by the melting of DNB in the temperature range of 100-120 °C. Subsequently, the DNB single component decomposes completely, leading to lattice collapse of cocrystal; simultaneously, CL-20 undergoes a transition process from β phase to γ phase. Ultimately, γ-CL-20 gradually decomposes with increasing temperature. The activation energy of cocrystal is also obtained as 129 ± 10 kJ/mol. The understanding of cocrystal explosive was deepened and the further application was promoted.
Preparation and Molecular Dynamic Simulation of Superfine CL-20/TNT Cocrystal Based on the Opposite Spray Method

Abstract:In view of the current problems of slow crystallization rate, varying grain sizes, complex process conditions, and low safety in the preparation of CL-20/TNT cocrystal explosives in the laboratory, an opposite spray crystallization method is provided to quickly prepare ultrafine explosive cocrystal particles. CL-20/TNT cocrystal explosive was prepared using this method, and the obtained cocrystal samples were characterized by electron microscopy morphology, differential thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The effects of spray temperature, feed ratio, and preparation method on the formation of explosive cocrystal were studied, and the process conditions of the pneumatic atomization spray crystallization method were optimized. The crystal plane binding energy and molecular interaction forces between CL-20 and TNT were obtained through molecular dynamic simulation, and the optimal binding crystal plane and cocrystal mechanism were analyzed. The theoretical calculation temperature of the binding energy was preliminarily explored in relation to the preparation process temperature of cocrystal explosives. The mechanical sensitivity of ultrafine CL-20/TNT cocrystal samples was tested. The results showed that choosing acetone as the cosolvent, a spraying temperature of 30 °C, and a feeding ratio of 1:1 was beneficial for the formation and growth of cocrystal. The prepared CL-20/TNT cocrystal has a particle size of approximately 10 μm. The grain size is small, and the crystallization rate is fast. The impact and friction sensitivity of ultrafine CL-20/TNT cocrystal samples were significantly reduced. The experimental process conditions are simple and easy to control, and the safety of the preparation process is high, providing certain technical support for the preparation of high-quality cocrystal explosives.
Thermal decomposition behavior of CL-20 co-crystals

Abstract:The thermal stability of bimolecular crystals 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazawurtzitane (CL-20) with 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocane (HMX), 1,4-dinitropipyrazine (DNPP), benzotrifuroxan (BTF), and 1-methyl-3,4,5-trinitro-1H-pyrazole (MTNP) has been studied using isothermal and non-isothermal kinetics methods. The studied co-crystals can be divided into two groups: in the case of co-crystallization of two nitramines 2CL-20/HMX and CL-20/DNPP, the molecular structure of the co-crystal does not undergo significant changes up to the decomposition temperature and the stability of the CL-20 does not change. In the case of co-crystallization of CL-20 with compounds of another class 2CL-20/MTNP and 2CL-20/BTF, the intermolecular interaction is weakened. Being more volatile and/or easily melted than CL-20, the second components (BTF and MTNP) of the co-crystals evaporate/melt when heated, leaving the CL-20 in an amorphous form, which leads to a decrease in its stability. Based on the reaction kinetic model, thermal hazard indicators such as adiabatic time to maximum rate (TMRad), and self-accelerating decomposition temperature (SADT) have been predicted to provide necessary safety information concerning the usage and storage of studied co-crystal. The combustion studies of bimolecular crystals showed that the burning CL-20/HMX and CL-20/DNPP co-crystals obey the mechanism with the leading reaction in the condensed phase. The burning rate of CL-20/BTF co-crystal is determined by reactions in the flame.

Abstract:Understanding the underlying mechanisms on sensitivity-decrease of the CL-20/TNT cocrystal is essential for wide applications of the promising high-energetic CL-20. This work presents the chemical scenario of CL-20/TNT thermolysis obtained from ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulations. Facilitated by the unique VARxMD for reaction analysis, the interplay reactions between CL-20 and TNT responsible for the sensitivity-decrease of CL-20/TNT was first revealed. The early response of CL-20/TNT to thermal stimulus is dominated by N-NO2 bond cleavage for NO2 formation and C-N bond scission leading to ring-opening of CL-20. The kinetics of N-NO2 and C-N bond cleavage, as well as the following oxygen-abstraction of NO2, are significantly slowed in the CL-20/TNT thermolysis against β-CL-20, which are responsible for the low sensitivity at the stage of active intermediate generation. The early formed active intermediates of NO2, NO3, NO, and N2O are confined and consumed by the reactions of the surrounding TNT or ring intermediates from TNT conversion, accounting for over 40% reactions of NO2 consumption. The abundant active intermediates are consumed mainly by the direct linking of active NO2 and NO with the nitro groups of TNT, hydrogen-abstraction from TNT and oxidation of benzene rings. The complex interplay reactions between TNT and the active intermediates generated significantly retard the chain-like reactions for further exothermal process, decreasing the sensitivity of CL-20/TNT. The comprehensive chemical understanding on the sensitivity-decrease of CL-20/TNT thermolysis revealed by ReaxFF MD simulations can offer assistance for tuned sensitivity of new energetic CL-20-based cocrystals.

Ab Initio Neural Network MD Simulation of Thermal Decomposition of a High Energy Material CL-20/TNT.

Abstract:CL-20 (2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane, also known as HNIW) is one of the most powerful energetic materials. However, its high sensitivity to environmental stimuli greatly reduces its safety and severely limits its application. In this work, ab initio based neural network potential (NNP) energy surfaces for both β-CL-20 and CL-20/TNT co-crystals were constructed. To accurately simulate the thermal decomposition processes of these two crystal systems, reactive molecular dynamics simulations based on the NNPs were performed. Many important intermediate species and their associated reaction paths during the decomposition had been identified in the simulations and the direct results on detonation temperatures of both systems were provided. The simulations also showed clearly that 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) molecules in the co-crystal act as a buffer to slow down the chain reactions triggered by nitrogen dioxide and this effect is more significant at lower temperatures. Specifically, the addition of TNT molecules in the CL-20/TNT co-crystal introduces intermolecular hydrogen bonds between CL-20 and TNT molecules in the system, thereby increasing the thermal stability of the co-crystal. The current reactive molecular dynamics simulation is performed based on the NNP which helps in accelerating the speed of ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulation by more than 3 orders of magnitude while preserving the accuracy of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. This enabled us to perform longer-time simulations at more realistic temperatures that traditional AIMD methods cannot achieve. With the advantage of the NNP in its powerful fitting ability and transferability, the NNP-based MD simulation can be widely applied to energetic material systems.
Unexpectedly Low Thermal Stability and the Surface-Induced Decomposition Mechanism of Cl-20/Mtnp Energetic Cocrystal

Abstract:Thermal stability is one of the key factors that determine the engineering applications of energetic cocrystals (ECCs). Herein, in-situ morphology and structure characterization techniques were adapted to investigate the thermal stability of hexanitrohexoazaisowurtzitane/1-methyl-3,4,5-trinitro-1H-pyrazole (CL-20/MTNP) cocrystal. The cocrystal structure was observed to completely decompose when heating at 140 o C for 180 min and 180 o C for 140 min, which are much lower than the decomposition temperature (220 o C) determined by non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) test. Due to the low temperature, CL-20/MTNP cocrystal gradually transformed to porous γ -CL-20 after thermal treatment. More importantly, an obvious morphology evolution was observed on the crystal surface even at the temperature low to 100 o C, which indicates an even much poorer thermal stability of the cocrystal surface. Combined the experimental observation and theoretically structure analysis, a novel surface-induced decomposition mechanism was proposed to explain the unexpectedly low thermal stability of the CL-20/MTNP cocrystal. These results provide a new perspective on the thermal stability of ECCs and will have significant impacts on the evaluation and application of ECCs.

Intermolecular Vibration Energy Transfer Process in Two CL-20-Based Cocrystals Theoretically Revealed by Two-Dimensional Infrared Spectra

Abstract:Inspired by the recent cocrystallization and theory of energetic materials, we theoretically investigated the intermolecular vibrational energy transfer process and the non-covalent intermolecular interactions between explosive compounds. The intermolecular interactions between 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) and 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20) and between 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocane (HMX) and CL-20 were studied using calculated two-dimensional infrared (2D IR) spectra and the independent gradient model based on the Hirshfeld partition (IGMH) method, respectively. Based on the comparison of the theoretical infrared spectra and optimized geometries with experimental results, the theoretical models can effectively reproduce the experimental geometries. By analyzing cross-peaks in the 2D IR spectra of TNT/CL-20, the intermolecular vibrational energy transfer process between TNT and CL-20 was calculated, and the conclusion was made that the vibrational energy transfer process between CL-20 and TNTII (TNTIII) is relatively slower than between CL-20 and TNTI. As the vibration energy transfer is the bridge of the intermolecular interactions, the weak intermolecular interactions were visualized using the IGMH method, and the results demonstrate that the intermolecular non-covalent interactions of TNT/CL-20 include van der Waals (vdW) interactions and hydrogen bonds, while the intermolecular non-covalent interactions of HMX/CL-20 are mainly comprised of vdW interactions. Further, we determined that the intermolecular interaction can stabilize the trigger bond in TNT/CL-20 and HMX/CL-20 based on Mayer bond order density, and stronger intermolecular interactions generally indicate lower impact sensitivity of energetic materials. We believe that the results obtained in this work are important for a better understanding of the cocrystal mechanism and its application in the field of energetic materials.

Abstract:The hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane/2,6-diamino-3,5-dinitropyrazine-1-oxide (CL-20/LLM-105) cocrystal models with different component ratios were established by the substitution method. The stability, sensitivity, energetic performance, and mechanical properties of CL-20, LLM-105, and CL-20/LLM-105 cocrystal models were predicted by the molecular dynamics method. The results show that the CL-20/LLM-105 cocrystal model with component ratio of 2:1 has the highest value of binding energy and is the most stable model. The cocrystal model has shorter trigger bond length than pure CL-20, but higher value of trigger bond energy and cohesive energy density, which implies that the sensitivity of cocrystal explosive is decreased. The cocrystal explosive has lower energy density than CL-20, but the cocrystal explosive with molar ratio of 10:1~2:1 still has high energy density and can be regarded as novel high energy density compound (HEDC). The tensile modulus, shear modulus, and bulk modulus of cocrystal models are decreased, Cauchy pressure is increased, meaning that the mechanical properties is improved. In a word, the CL-20/LLM-105 cocrystal explosive with component ratio of 2:1 has the best stability, lowest mechanical sensitivity, most desirable mechanical properties, and high energy density, it is very promising to become a novel HEDC.
