Abstract:Let $H$ denote a composition of complex H\'enon maps in {\bf C}$^2$. In this paper we show that the only possible compositional roots of $H$ are also compositions of H\'enon maps, and that $H$ can have compositional roots of only finitely many distinct orders.

Abstract:We use results of Auroux <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1001.4323" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1001.4323">arXiv:1001.4323</a> and Zemke <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1801.09270" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1801.09270">arXiv:1801.09270</a> to prove that, in the morphism spaces formulation of Heegaard Floer homology given in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1005.1248" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1005.1248">arXiv:1005.1248</a>, the opposite composition map agrees up to homotopy with the map on Heegaard Floer complexes induced by a pair-of-pants cobordism. As an application, we give an algorithm for computing arbitrary cobordism maps on hat Heegaard Floer homology.

Abstract:In this paper, we study 2-complex symmetric composition operators with the conjugation J, defined by Jf(z)=(f(z¯))¯, on the Hardy space H2. More precisely, we obtain the necessary and sufficient condition for the composition operator Cϕ to be 2-complex symmetric with J when ϕ is an automorphism of D. We also characterize 2-complex symmetric with J when ϕ is a linear fractional self-map of D.

Abstract:Let f : X → X be a selfmap of a path-connected space and let a ϵ X. We call x ϵ X an irreducible root of, fn, at a if fn(x) = a but fm(x) ≠ a for all m < n, where fn denotes the nth iterate of f. A lower bound N In(f;a) for the number of irreducible roots of fn is defined that is homotopy invariant under suitable hypotheses and, in many cases, can be calculated algebraically from the homomorphism of the fundamental group of X induced by f. In particular, this is true when X is a compact orientable manifold without boundary and f has nonzero degree. The geometric content of these calculations is described in concrete examples in terms of the discrete semidynamical system determined by f. We apply the theory of roots of iterates to primitive roots of unity in H-spaces.
Hénon maps with biholomorphic Kato surfaces

Abstract:Let $F$ and $G$ be generalized Hénon maps. We show that the Kato surfaces associated to the germs of $F$ and $G$ near infinity are biholomorphic if and only if $F$ and $G$ are conjugate in $\text{Aut}(\mathbb{C}^2)$. This answers a question raised by Favre in Xénelkis de Hénon's survey. We also show that two generalized Hénon maps are conjugate near infinity, if and only if they are affinely conjugate.

Horn maps of semi-parabolic Hénon maps

Abstract:We prove that horn maps associated to quadratic semi-parabolic fixed points of Hénon maps, first introduced by Bedford, Smillie, and Ueda, satisfy a weak form of the Ahlfors island property. As a consequence, two natural definitions of their Julia set (the non-normality locus of the family of iterates and the closure of the set of the repelling periodic points) coincide. As another consequence, we also prove that there exist small perturbations of semi-parabolic Hénon maps for which the Hausdorff dimension of the forward Julia set $J^+$ is arbitrarily close to 4.

Abstract:Recently, there has been great interest in the application of composition laws to problems in enumerative geometry. Using the moduli space of stable maps, we compute the number of irreducible, reduced, nodal, degree-$d$ genus-$2$ plane curves whose normalization has a fixed complex structure and which pass through $3d - 2$ general points in $\Bbb P^2$.

Abstract:We consider a finite composition of generalized Hénon mappings $\mathfrak{f}:\mathbb{C}^2\to\mathbb{C}^2$ and its Green function $\mathfrak{g}^+:\mathbb{C}^2\to\mathbb{R}_{\ge 0}$ (see Section 2). It is well known that each level set $\{\mathfrak{g}^+=c\}$ for $c>0$ is foliated by biholomorphic images of $\mathbb{C}$ and each leaf is dense. In this paper, we prove that each leaf is actually an injective Brody curve in $\mathbb{P}^2$ (see Section 4). Namely, for any injective holomorphic parametrization of any leaf, its derivative is bounded over $\mathbb{C}$ with respect to the Fubini-Study metric of $\mathbb{P}^2$. We also study the behavior of the level sets of $\mathfrak{g}^+$ near infinity.

Abstract:In 1980s, Thurston established a topological characterization theorem for postcritically finite rational maps. In this paper, a decomposition theorem for a class of postcritically infinite branched covering termed Herman map is developed. It's shown that every Herman map can be decomposed along a stable multicurve into finitely many Siegel maps and Thurston maps, such that the combinations and rational realizations of these resulting maps essentially dominate the original one. This result is motivated by a non-expanding version of McMullen's problem, and Thurston's theory on characterization of rational maps. It enables us to prove a Thurston-type theorem for rational maps with Herman rings.

Abstract:We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a holomorphic self-map $\phi$ of the tridisc to induce a bounded composition operator on the associated Hardy space. This condition depends on the behaviour of the first and the second derivative of the symbol at boundary points. We also discuss compactness of composition operators on the bidisc and the tridisc.

Abstract:We study the composition operators $C_a$ acting on the Hardy space $H^2$ of the unit disk, given by $C_af=f\circ\varphi_a$, where $$ \varphi_a(z)=\frac{a-z}{1-\bar{a}z}, $$ for $|a|<1$. These operators are reflections: $C_a^2=1$. We study their eigenspaces $N(C_a\pm 1)$, their relative position (i.e., the intersections between these spaces and their orthogonal complementes for $a\ne b$ in the unit disk) and the symmetries induced by $C_a$ and these eigenspaces.

Abstract:We investigate nicely embedded H--holomorphic maps into stable Hamiltonian three--manifolds. In particular we prove that such maps locally foliate and satisfy a no--first--intersection property. Using the compactness results of arXiv:0904.1603 we show that connected components of the space of such maps can be compactified if they contain a global surface of section. As an application we prove that any contact structure on a 3--manifold admits and H--holomorphic open book decomposition. This work is motivated by the program laid out by Abbas, Cieliebak and Hofer to give a proof to the Weinstein conjecture using holomorphic curves. The results in this paper, with the exception of the compactness statement, have been independently obtained by C. Abbas in arXiv:0907.3512.
Hölder continuity and laminarity of the Green currents for Hénon-like maps

Abstract:Under a natural assumption on the dynamical degrees, we prove that the Green currents associated to any Hénon-like map in any dimension have Hölder continuous super-potentials, i.e., give Hölder continuous linear functionals on suitable spaces of forms and currents. As a consequence, the unique measure of maximal entropy is the Monge-Ampère of a Hölder continuous plurisubharmonic function and has strictly positive Hausdorff dimension. Under the same assumptions, we also prove that the Green currents are woven. When they are of bidegree $(1,1)$, they are laminar. In particular, our results generalize results known until now only in algebraic settings, or in dimension 2.

Abstract:We study $C^{d,r}$-Hénon-like families $(f_{a\, b})_{a\, b}$ with two parameters $(a,b)\in \mathbb R^2$. We show the existence of an open set of parameters $(a,b)\in \mathcal D$, so that a renormalization chart conjugates an iterate of $f_{a\, b}$ to a perturbation of $(x,y)\mapsto ((x^2+c_1)^2+c_2,0)$. We prove that the map $(a,b)\in \mathcal D\mapsto (c_1,c_2)$ is a $C^d$-diffeomorphism; as first numerically conjectured by Milnor in 1992. Furthermore, we show the existence of an open set of parameters $(a,b)$ so that $f_{a\, b}$ displays exactly two different renormalized Hénon-like maps whose basins union attracts Lebesgue a.e. point with bounded forward orbit. A great freedom in the choice of the renormalized parameters enables us to deduce in particular the existence of a (unperturbed) Hénon map with exactly $2$ attracting cycles (an answer to a Question by Lyubich). The proof is based on a generalization of puzzle pieces for Hénon-like maps, and on a generalization of both the affine-like formalism of Palis-Yoccoz and the cross map of Shilnikov. The distortion bounds enable us to define (for the first time) $C^{r}$ and $C^{d,r}$-renormalizations and multi-renormalizations with bounds on all the derivatives.

Abstract:The renowned 2D invertible Hénon map turns into 1D noninvertible quadratic map when its leading parameter [Formula: see text] becomes zero. This well-known link was studied by Mira who demonstrated that the bifurcation set of Hénon diffeomorphism is similar to his “box-within-a-box” bifurcation structure of 1D endomorphism. In general, such similarity has not been strictly established, especially in multidimensional cases. In this paper, we proved that the Mira bifurcation structure of a quadratic noninvertible map persists when the parameter increases from zero and the map turns into an invertible multidimensional generalized Hénon map. The changes of periodic and homoclinic orbits and chaotic attractors at this transition are described. We proved the existence of Newhouse regions is different from those Mira boxes that accumulate to the homoclinic bifurcations.

Abstract:Let $f$ be a complex Hénon map and $\mu$ its unique measure of maximal entropy. We prove that $\mu$ is exponentially mixing of all orders for all (not necessarily bounded) plurisubharmonic observables, and that all plurisubharmonic functions satisfy the central limit theorem with respect to $\mu$. Our results hold more generally for every Hénon-Sibony map on $\mathbb{C}^k$.

Abstract:Let $\varphi$ be a holomorphic map which is a symbol of a bounded composition operator $C_\varphi$ acting on the Hardy-Hilbert space of Dirichlet series. We find a Königs map for $\varphi$. We then deduce several applications on $C_\varphi$ (e.g. on its spectrum, on its dynamical properties). In particular, we study for a large class of symbols $\varphi$ if the associated composition operator has a minimal commutant.
