Abstract:The effects arising from process parameters on sump depth and mold stress were quantitatively studied through numerical simulation to determine the reasonable process parameters of vertical continuous casting of large diameter C71500 cupronickel alloy hollow ingot. As revealed by the results, the sump depth increased with the increase in the casting temperature and the drawing speed, while decreasing with the increase in the cooling intensity of the graphite core tube. The effects arising from external crystallization cooling intensity on the sump depth were not significant. The results of the orthogonal test and the variance analysis indicated that the sump depth was extremely sensitive to the drawing speed. The mold stress was found to be sensitive to the cooling intensity of the graphite core tube and the crystallizer, while the casting temperature and the drawing speed had a slight effect on the die stress. Subsequently, the reasonable process parameters were obtained, which comprised the primary cooling strength of 3000 W/m 2 ·K, the drawing speed of 55 mm/min, the casting temperature of 1280 °C, as well as air cooling for the core tube. Lastly, the C71500 cupronickel alloy hollow ingots were produced based on the simulation results. The metallographic experiment of the slab was carried out, and the results were compared with the simulated results, to provide a theoretical reference for optimization of casting process parameters.
