Abstract:The entanglement of pair cat states in the phase damping channel is studied by employing the relative entropy of entanglement. It is shown that the pair cat states can always be distillable in the phase damping channel. Furthermore, we analyze the fidelity of teleportation for the pair cat states by using joint measurements of the photon-number sum and phase difference.

Abstract:We investigate the entanglement swapping of the continuous variable states by taking the pair Schrödinger cat states as the input entangled states, in which the two-mode squeezed vacuum and the pair cat states serve as the quantum channel, respectively. The entanglement of the initial states as well as the final states is analyzed by adopting the logarithmic negativity as the measure of entanglement. The quantum teleportation task by exploiting the swapped states as the quantum channel is also considered, where a coherent state serves as the target state and the average fidelity is examined.

Abstract:Quantum superpositions of distinct coherent states in a single-mode harmonic oscillator, known as "cat states", have been an elegant demonstration of Schrodinger's famous cat paradox. Here, we realize a two-mode cat state of electromagnetic fields in two microwave cavities bridged by a superconducting artificial atom, which can also be viewed as an entangled pair of single-cavity cat states. We present full quantum state tomography of this complex cat state over a Hilbert space exceeding 100 dimensions via quantum non-demolition measurements of the joint photon number parity. The ability to manipulate such multi-cavity quantum states paves the way for logical operations between redundantly encoded qubits for fault-tolerant quantum computation and communication.

Abstract:Quantum Schrodinger cat states are of great interest in quantum communications and quantum optics. These states are used in various scientific fields such as quantum computing, quantum error correction and high-precision measurements. The analysis of the Schrodinger cat states coherence is an important task for their complete practical application. Our developed approach makes it possible to estimate the coherence of the quantum Schrodinger cat state of arbitrary dimension, as well as to find the interference visibility of the state - an important optical characteristic. The obtained simple quantitative relationship between coherence and the Schmidt number, as well as the developed approach of reducing the multidimensional quantum cat state to a two-mode analog allow us to analyze macroscopic states formed by a large number of modes. Several explicit formulas for the reduced states that arise after measuring of some modes of the considered multimode system are obtained. The research results have significant application and can be used in the development of high-dimensional quantum information processing systems.

Abstract:Strong laser-atom interactions can produce highly non-classical states of light by using the process of high-harmonic generation in atoms. When the high-harmonic generation is present, the quantum state of the fundamental mode following the interaction is known as the Schrödinger cat state, which is a superposition of the laser's initial coherent state and the coherent state with a smaller amplitude that results from its interaction with atoms. Here, we demonstrate that new light states with significantly different Wigner function distributions can be produced by combining two separate Schrödinger cat states. Through the engineering of Schrödinger cat states' parameters, we are able to produce Wigner functions that exhibit high sensitivity in relation to the system parameter. Our research paves the way for the creation of non-classical light by superposing Schrödinger cat states with application in such as quantum sensing.

Abstract:The Schrodinger cat states can be generated by conditional measurement on the atom in the Jaynes-Cumming model with Kerr medium. The special states such as even coherent state, odd coherent state and Yurke-Stoler coherent state may be acquired by further selecting some suitable parameters such as the time of measurement, initial state of atom and Kerr nonlinear constant. The sub-Poisson distribution can be revealed under the high field approximation only in the existence of Kerr medium.

Abstract:Schrödinger cat states, which are superpositions of macroscopically distinct states, are potentially critical resources for upcoming quantum information technologies. In this paper, we introduce a scheme to generate entangled Schrödinger cat states in a non-relativistic electric dipole system situated on a two-dimensional plane, along with an external potential and a uniform strong magnetic field perpendicular to the plane. Additionally, our findings demonstrate that this setup can lead to the phenomenon of collapse and revival of entanglement for a specific range of our model parameters

Quantumness of gravitational cat states in correlated dephasing channels

Abstract:We study the quantumness of gravitational cat states in correlated dephasing channels. Our focus is on exploring how classical correlations between successive actions of a dephasing channel influence the decoherence of two gravitational cats (two qubits) at a thermal regime. The results show that the quantum coherence, local quantum Fisher information, and Bell non-locality can be significantly enhanced by augmenting classical correlations throughout the entire duration when the two qubits pass the channel. However, the gravitational interaction and energy gap between states exhibit intricate impacts on the quantum characteristics of gravitational cats. New features are reported that can be significant for both gravitational physics and quantum information processing.

Abstract:Modeling the Schr\"{o}dinger cat by a two state system and assuming that the cat is coupled to the environment we look for the least paradoxical states of the Schr\"{o}dinger cat in the following way. We require the reduced density matrix of the cat for one of the two states in the superposition to be the same as the one for the total state while distinct from the reduced density matrix of the cat for the other state in the superposition. We then look for the reduced density matrices for which the cat is as alive as possible for the first state (and as dead as possible for the second state). The resulting states are those in which the probability for the cat to be alive (or dead) is $1/2+\sqrt 2/4\approx 0.854$

Abstract:We introduce the `Complete Wave Function' and deduce that all living beings, not just Schroedinger's cat, are actually described by a superposition of `alive' and `dead' quantum states; otherwise they would never die. Therefore this proposal provides a quantum mechanical explanation to the world-wide observation that we all pass away. Next we consider the Measurement problem in the framework of M-theory. For this purpose, together with Schroedinger's cat we also place inside the box Rasputin's cat, which is unaffected by poison. We analyse the system identifying its excitations (catons and catinos) and we discuss its evolution: either to a classical fight or to a quantum entanglement. We also propose the $BSV\Psi$ scenario, which implements the Complete Wave Function as well as the Big Bang and the String Landscape in a very (super)natural way. Then we test the gravitational decoherence of the entangled system applying an experimental setting due to Galileo. We also discuss the Information Loss paradox. For this purpose we consider a massless black cat falling inside a massive black hole. After that we outline a method to compute the contribution of black cats to the dark matter of the universe. Finally, in the spirit of Schroedinger, we propose that next generation double-slit experiments should use cats as projectiles. Cat interferometry will inevitably lead to the `Many Cats' interpretation of Quantum Mechanics, allowing to shed new light on old mysteries and paradoxes. For example, according to this interpretation, conservative estimates show that decision making of a single domestic cat will create about 550 billion whole universes every day, with as many replicas of itself.

Abstract:Due to the inherently probabilistic nature of quantum mechanics, each experimental realization of a dynamical quantum system may yield a different measurement outcome, especially when the system is coupled to an environment that causes dissipation. Although it is in principle possible that some quantum trajectories lead to exotic highly entangled quantum states, the probability of observing these trajectories is usually extremely low. In this work, we show how to maximize the probability of generating highly entangled states, including maximally entangled cat states, in an ensemble of atoms experiencing superradiant decay. To this end, we analyze an effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian which governs the dynamics between the quantum jumps associated with photon emission. A key result of our study is that, in order to maximally enhance the probability of cat state generation, the initial state needs to be non-classical. This can be achieved e.g. with one-axis twisting in a cavity-QED system.

Abstract:Cat states are systems in a superposition of macroscopically distinguishable states; this superposition can be of either classically or quantum distinct states, regardless of the number of particles or modes involved. Here, we constructed an experimental model that simulates an optical cat state by engineering the classical orbital angular momentum of light, referred to here as an analogous cat state (a-CS). In our scheme, the behaviors of the a-CS in position space show many similarities to the quantum version of the optical cat state in phase space, for example, movement, rotation, and interference. Experimentally, the a-CS, which has two spatially localized Gaussian intensity lobes, can be evolved from "kitten" to "cat" by engineering the acquired phase hologram. Additionally, we simulated the "decoherence" of the a-CS influenced by atmospheric turbulence. The a-CS provides a reliable tool for visualizing and studying the behaviors of quantum cat states in phase space.

Abstract:Superposition is one of unusual features in quantum mechanics. This paper investigates the properties of multi-component Schrödinger cat state, generated by amplitude dispersion. The geometrical imaginary of the multi-component Schrödinger cat state is studied, and the entropy of the geometrical imaginary is proposed. This entropy is inverse proportional to the amplitude of the initial coherent state in the large amplitude regime. Additionally, the superposition of the multi-component cat state can be vividly displayed by the Wigner function and the Pegg–Barnett phase operator.

Abstract:We demonstrate an exact equivalence between classical population dynamics and Lindbladian evolution admitting a dark state and obeying a set of certain local symmetries. We then introduce {\em quantum population dynamics} as models in which this local symmetry condition is relaxed. This allows for non-classical processes in which animals behave like Schrödinger's cat and enter superpositions of live and dead states, thus resulting in coherent superpositions of different population numbers. We develop a field theory treatment of quantum population models as a synthesis of Keldysh and third quantization techniques and draw comparisons to the stochastic Doi-Peliti field theory description of classical population models. We apply this formalism to study a prototypical ``Schrödigner cat'' population model on a $d$-dimensional lattice, which exhibits a phase transition between a dark extinct phase and an active phase that supports a stable quantum population. Using a perturbative renormalization group approach, we find a critical scaling of the Schrödinger cat population distinct from that observed in both classical population dynamics and usual quantum phase transitions.

Abstract:We derive the probability representation of even and odd cat states of two and three qubits. These states are even and odd superpositions of spin-1/2 eigenstates corresponding to two opposite directions along the z axis. The probability representation of even and odd cat states of an oscillating spin-1/2 particle is also discussed. The exact formulas for entangled probability distributions describing density matrices of all these states are obtained.

Abstract:We discuss the generation of a Schrödinger cat in a nanocavity created by the coupling of an electromagnetic mode with an exciton in a quantum dot considering the dispersive limit of the Jaynes-Cummings model. More than the generation itself, we focus on the effects of the environment over the bosonic state in the nanocavity, which has losses simulated by coupling with two different kind of reservoirs. In the first case, the interaction between the system with a finite reservoir shows that fragments of different sizes of the reservoir deliver the same amount of information about the physical system in the dynamics of the birth and death of the Schrödinger cat. The second case considers a structured reservoir, whose spectral density varies significantly with frequency. This situation becomes relevant in solid-state devices where quantum channels are embedded, as memory effects generally cannot be neglected. Under these circumstances, it is observed that the dynamics can differ substantially from the Markovian, presenting oscillations related to the average number of photons. These oscillations influence the information flow between the system and the environment, evidenced here by the measurement of non-Markovianity.
