Abstract:We prove new cases of the Hasse principle for Kummer surfaces constructed from 2-coverings of Jacobians of genus 2 curves, assuming finiteness of relevant Tate--Shafarevich groups. Under the same assumption, we deduce the Hasse principle for quartic del Pezzo surfaces with trivial Brauer group and irreducible or completely split characteristic polynomial, hence the Hasse principle for smooth complete intersections of two quadrics in the projective space of dimension at least 5.

Abstract:We prove the Hasse principle for a smooth proper model of a geometrically integral non-conical intersection of two quadrics in the projective space of dimension 7 over a number field. This result generalizes the result of Heath-Brown who established the statement in the smooth case. Our argument is built upon the ideas of Colliot-Thélène and the fibration method for zero-cycles in the form of Harpaz-Wittenberg.

Abstract:Working on Berkovich analytic curves, we propose a geometric approach to the study of the Hasse principle over function fields of curves defined over a complete discretely valued field. Using it, we show the Hasse principle to be verified for certain families of projective homogeneous spaces. As a consequence, we also obtain said principle in the already known cases of quadratic forms and homogeneous varieties over unitary groups.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to construct the Hilbert scheme of complete intersections in the biprojective space $X=\mathbb{P}^m\times\mathbb{P}^n$ and for this, we define a partial order on the bidegrees of the bihomogeneous forms. As a consequence of this construction, we computer explicitly the Hilbert scheme for curves of genus 7 and 8 listed in \cite{MUK95} and \cite{MUKIDE03} that are complete intersections. Finally, we construct the coarse moduli space of complete intersections in $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$.

Abstract:Conditional on finiteness of relevant Shafarevich--Tate groups, Harpaz and Skorobogatov used Swinnerton-Dyer's descent-fibration method to establish the Hasse principle for Kummer varieties associated to a 2-covering of a principally polarised abelian variety under certain largeness assumptions on its mod 2 Galois image. Their method breaks down however when the Galois image is maximal, due to the possible failure of the Shafarevich--Tate group of quadratic twists of A to have square order. In this work we overcome this obstruction by combining second descent ideas in the spirit of Harpaz and Smith with results on the parity of 2-infinity Selmer ranks in quadratic twist families. This allows Swinnerton-Dyer's method to be successfully applied to K3 surfaces arising as quotients of 2-coverings of Jacobians of genus 2 curves with no rational Weierstrass points.

Abstract:We study the geometry of the space of rational curves on smooth complete intersections of low degree, which pass through a given set of points on the variety. The argument uses spreading out to a finite field, together with an adaptation to function fields of positive characteristic of work by Rydin Myerson on the circle method. Our work also allows us to handle weak approximation for such varieties.

Abstract:Lichtenbaum proved that index and period coincide for a curve of genus one over a $p$-adic field. Salberger proved that the Hasse principle holds for a smooth complete intersection of two quadrics $X \subset P^n$ over a number field, if it contains a conic and if $n\geq 5$. Building upon these two results, we extend recent results of Creutz and Viray (2021) on the existence of a quadratic point on intersections of two quadrics over $p$-adic fields and number fields. We then recover Heath-Brown's theorem (2018) that the Hasse principle holds for smooth complete intersections of two quadrics in $P^7$. We also give an alternate proof of a theorem of Iyer and Parimala (2022) on the local-global principle in the case $n=5$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove an intersection-theoretic result pertaining to curves in certain Hilbert modular surfaces in positive characteristic. Specifically, we show that given two appropriate curves C,D parameterizing abelian surfaces with real multiplication, the set of points (x,y) in the product CxD with surfaces parameterized by x and y isogenous to each other is Zariski dense in C x D, thereby proving a case of a just-likely intersection conjecture. We also compute the change in Faltings height under appropriate p-power isogenies of abelian surfaces with real multiplication over characteristic p global fields.

Abstract:Euler-symmetric projective varieties, introduced by Baohua Fu and Jun-Muk Hwang in 2020, are nondegenerate projective varieties admitting many $\mathbb{C}^{\times}$-actions of Euler type. They are quasi-homogeneous and uniquely determined by their fundamental forms at a general point. In this paper, we study complete intersections in projective spaces which are Euler-symmetric. It is proven that such varieties are complete intersections of hyperquadrics and the base locus of the second fundamental form at a general point is again a complete intersection.

Abstract:We describe explicit birational maps from some rational complete intersections of three quadrics in $\mathbb{P}^7$ to some prime Fano manifolds together with their Sarkisov decomposition via a single Secant Flop, allowing us to recover the cohomologically associated Castelnuovo surface of general type with $K^2=2$ and $\chi=4$ (the double cover of $\mathbb{P}^2$ ramified along the discriminant curve of the net of quadrics defining the complete intersection) as the minimal model of the non ruled irreducible component of the base locus of the inverse maps. In passing we also revisit and reformulate the results in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1706.01371" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1706.01371">arXiv:1706.01371</a>] about the existence of infinitely many loci of rational complete intersection of three quadrics in $\mathbb{P}^7$ to produce explicitly some of these loci of low codimension together with many other irreducible unirational components of the Noether--Lefschetz locus.

Abstract:The purpose of this note is twofold. First, we give a quick proof of Ballico-Chiantini's theorem stating that a Fano or Calabi-Yau variety of dimension at least 4 in codimension two is a complete intersection. Second, we improve Barth-Van de Ven's result asserting that if the degree of a smooth projective variety of dimension $n$ is less than approximately $0.63 \cdot n^{1/2}$, then it is a complete intersection. We show that the degree bound can be improved to approximately $0.79 \cdot n^{2/3}$.

Abstract:We establish new upper bounds on the number of failures of the integral Hasse principle within the family of Markoff type cubic surfaces $x^2+ y^2+ z^2- xyz= a$ with $|a|\leq A$ as $A\to \infty$. Our bound improves upon existing work of Ghosh and Sarnak. As a result, we demonstrate that the integral Hasse principle holds for a density $1$ of surfaces in certain sparse sequences.
