Abstract:Nowadays, a number of spectrophotometric methods for Cr(VI) determination have been developed. Whereas most of them are sensitive to pH, metallic ions, temperature, etc, which render them out of feasibility and may result in erroneous measurement. Therefore, to overcome these drawbacks, a new spectrophotometric method with rapid detection, high accuracy and strong anti-interference ability was established. This method is based on the oxidative coloration of N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DPD) and Cr(VI) to generate pink-colored DPD•+ radicals which showed maximum absorbance at 551 nm. Accordingly, different reaction parameters were optimized, the calibration curves (linear range 0.85–60 µM) were established with a high sensibility of (3.05 ± 0.02) × 104 M−1 cm−1. The LOD and LOQ were determined to be 0.26 µM and 0.85 µM respectively, accompanied with a stoichiometric coefficient of near 1:3 (1:2.78). The DPD method exerted a satisfactory accuracy in natural water samples and a pretty good anti-interference performance towards various common co-existing metallic ions. Moreover, this method was successfully applied in the Cr(VI)-sulfite and Cr(VI)-hydroxylamine systems. Overall, the study highlights the DPD method as a promising approach for the Cr(VI) determination and provides a new perspective for the practices of spectrophotometry.

Abstract:BODIPY-based chemosensors are widely used owing to merits like good selectivity, high fluorescence quantum yield, and excellent optical stability. As such, a pH-switchable hydrophilic fluorescent probe, BODIPY-PY-(SO3Na)2, was developed for detection of Fe3+ ion in aqueous solutions. BODIPY-PY-(SO3Na)2 revealed strong fluorescence intensity and was responsive to pH value in the range of 6.59-1.96. Additionally, BODIPY-PY-(SO3Na)2 showed good selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe3+. A good linear relationship for Fe3+ detection was obtained from 0.0 μM to 50.0 μM with low detecting limit of 6.34 nM at pH 6.59 and 2.36 nM at pH 4.32, respectively. The response to pH and detection of Fe3+ induced obvious multicolor changes. BODIPY-PY-(SO3Na)2 can also be utilized to quantitatively detect Fe3+ in real water sample. Different mechanisms of Fe3+ detection at investigated pH values were unraveled through relativistic density functional theory (DFT) calculations in BODIPY-PY-(SO3Na)2 and experiments of coexisting cations, anions and molecules. These results enabled us to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between BODIPY-PY-(SO3Na)2 and Fe3+ and provide valuable fundamental information for design of efficient multicolor chemosensors for Fe3+ as well.

Abstract:Abstract The iron concentration in natural water of acid sulfate soils is usually determined by complicated methods of SMEWW 3111B:2017 or ISO 6332: 1988 E in the laboratory for acidified water samples at pH ∼2–3. Therefore, the rapid field determination of iron content in natural water is a very useful method because it limits the error and reduces the experimental time for analysis. In this study, we proposed, developed, and tested a rapid colorimetric analysis method based on the chemical reaction of ferric and SCN ions for an iron concentration range of 0–100 mg/L with a linear equation of ΔE = 0.5955x + 2.0909 and high correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9864. The results from 10 water samples by this method were very close to those by flame absorption spectroscopy with a difference of less than 5%. Besides the biggest advantage of rapid site testing, this method also gives quite high accuracy compared to the molecular absorption method of ISO 6332:1988 E. In addition, this new method can quantify Fe3+, Fe2+, and total iron in water, suggesting a very useful and potential method for determining the iron content of natural water from acid sulfate soils.

Abstract:Iron (Ⅱ) determination and electrochemical behavior of iron-sucrose complex by pulse polargraphy are theoretical analyzed.The influence of pulse amplitude of voltage pulse △E,pulse time δ and temperature T on height and potential of the first and second polarographic peak is studied with the single factor method.It was found that these three factors had significant influence on the electrochemical behavior of iron-sucrose in pulse polargraphy.And the USP method for the determination of iron(Ⅱ) content in iron sucrose injection is discussed in details.Based on the research results in this paper,some advices for improving the analyzing method given by USP are suggested.

Abstract:The new reagent N-methyl-N-((((4-chlorophenyl)diazenyl)thio)carbonothioyl)aniline (L) was synthesized via the reaction of sodium N-methyl-N-phenyldithiocarbamate with 4-chlorobenzenediazonium salt. The reagent was identified with many techniques, such as CHNS elemental analysis, UV-vis spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The Fe(II) ion was utilized to create a metal complex by reacting 2 mol of reagent with 1 mol of iron(II) chloride. Two approaches that were utilized for M:L ratio determination are mole ratio and Job methods. All of these refer to the 1:2 ratio for the complex. The solid complex was prepared and identified with the previous techniques, and additional electrical molar conductivity, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. A tetrahedral structure for the prepared complex was suggested based on spectroscopic measurements and elemental analysis results. Cloud point extraction was created for the preconcentration and separation of Fe(II) in drug samples by forming a rich phase using Triton X-114 at 80 °C temperature and pH 5 measurements utilizing flame atomic absorption spectroscopy and UV-vis spectrophotometer at λmax 635 nm. The calibration curve of Fe(II) was linear in the extent of 0.2–1.0 μg/mL with r2 of 0.996. The detection limit and quantification are 0.0504 and 0.1530 μg/mL.
An Expeditious and Sensitive Microprecipitation Approach Using Chrome Azurol S and Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide for Visual Detection of Fe(II) and Fe(III) in Water

Abstract:The aim of this work is to develop a simple, sensitive, and reliable colorimetric test method for the visual detection of Fe(II) and Fe(III) in water. The sample solution of Fe(III) was initially complexed with chromeazurol S ( CAS ) followed by ion-pair association with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide ( CTAB ) in the presence of perchlorate ions. This led to the formation of a bulky and insoluble fluffy precipitate involving the physical entrapment of the ternary complex of Fe-CAS-CTAB, which floats on the top of the solution. Depending on the concentration of Fe(III), this type of ternary complex produces an impressive color change from reddish magenta to purple and then to cyan-blue, easily detectable with the naked eye without the need for expensive instrumentation. The ternary-colored complex was formed instantly and remained stable for at least 8 h with constant absorbance. For the determination of total iron and Fe(II), complete oxidation of Fe(II) to Fe(III) was carried out using 100 μL of KMnO 4 (0.005%). The minimal response with the test method was found to be about 5 ng/mL of Fe(III) in 2 min of the total sample testing procedure. However, Fe(III) could be quantified using a spectrophotometer after dissolving the fluffy precipitate in toluene solvent. The calibration graph was linear in the range of 5–30 ng/mL of Fe(III) with a correlation coefficient of 0.9931 and a limit of detection of 0.9 ng/mL. The relative standard deviation was found to be less than 6%. At the end of the study, the efficacy of the method was evaluated by its application to groundwater and thermal power plant coolant waters.

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to synthesize Prussian blue {Fe III 4 [Fe II (CN) 6 ] 3 } pigment by reacting ferric chloride with different ferrocyanides through the same procedure. The influence of the ferrocyanide used on resulting pigment properties is studied. Design/methodology/approach Prussian blue is commonly synthesized by direct or indirect methods, through iron salt and ferrocyanide/ferricyanide reactions. In this study, the direct, single-step process was pursued by dropwise addition of the ferrocyanide into ferric chloride (both as aqueous solutions). Two batches – (K-PB) and (Na-PB) – were prepared by using potassium ferrocyanide and sodium ferrocyanide, respectively. The development of pigment was confirmed by an identification test and characterized by spectroscopic techniques. Pigment properties were determined, and light fastness was observed for acrylic emulsion films incorporating dispersed pigment. Findings The two pigments differed mainly in elemental detection owing to the dissimilar ferrocyanide being used; IR spectroscopy where only (Na-PB) showed peaks indicating water molecules; and bleeding tendency where (K-PB) was water soluble whereas (Na-PB) was not. The pigment exhibited remarkable blue colour and good bleeding resistance in several solvents and showed no fading in 24 h of light exposure though oil absorption values were high. Originality/value This article is a comparative study of Prussian blue pigment properties obtained using different ferrocyanides. The dissimilarity in the extent of water solubility will influence potential applications as a colourant in paints and inks. K-PB would be advantageous in aqueous formulations to confer a blue colour without any dispersing aid but unfavourable in systems where other coats are water-based due to their bleeding tendency.

Abstract:A simple, rapid, sensitive and selective kinetic spectrophotometric method for determination of Fe(III) traces was elaborated in this paper. It is based on the catalytic effect of Fe(III) ions on oxidation of potassium salt of disulphonated hydroquinone (K2S2Hy) by hydrogen peroxide in acidic media, at a constant ionic strength. At the working temperature of 20?C and the wavelength of 450.0 nm, optimal conditions for determination of iron were found so that iron (III) can be determined by the proposed method in the concentration range of 1.87 to 18.7 ng cm-3. Corresponding RSD values were determined to be in the range 4.22 to 10.33 %. The limit of detection (LOD) calculated in two ways was found to be 1.07 ng cm-3 i.e. 1.11 ng cm-3 Fe(III). In order to assess the selectivity of the method effects of different ions on the reaction rate were also determined. It was found that presence of oxalates and citrates in the w/w ratio to Fe(III) 1:1 under selected experimental conditions interferes with determination of iron. Then the method was applied for determination of Fe(III) traces in white radish juice. The results agreed well with those obtained by atomic absorption spectrometry.

Abstract:This paper studied the traces of improvement of GB/T 5009.34-2003 hydrochloric para-rosaniline method. Investigated the pretreatment method of water-insoluble solid samples, improved the preparation of sulfite standard solution, and researched the optimum concentration of hydrochloride in the solution of pararosaniline hydrochloride, as well as the method for sulfite determination in colored substances. The results indicated that the detection efficientcy had significantly improved by using ultrasonic processing water-insoluble solid samples in 40 minutes. The improved preparation method can reduce the frequenty of calibration and extent the storage time of sulfite standard solution,when the hydrochloride acid was 0.7 mol/L in hydrochloric para-rosaniline with high sensitivity and good linearity. The use of activated carbon pretrement colored samples can avoid false positive results. The improved methods greatly shortened the testing time, easy to control, high sensitivity, good reproducibility, and also expanded the scope of application of the methods.
Core/shell Cu@Ag nanoparticle: a versatile platform for colorimetric visualization of inorganic anions

Abstract:Recognition and sensing of anions in aqueous media have been of considerable interest while remaining a challenging task up to date. In this document, we wish to present a simple yet sensitive method to detect inorganic anions by colorimetry based on the citrate-stabilized core/shell Cu@Ag nanoparticle (NP). It was found that the NP could discriminate some specific anions (Cl(-), Br(-), I(-), S(2-), and SCN(-)) from a wide range of environmentally dominant anions (F(-), SO(4)(2-), H(2)PO(4)(-), CO(3)(2-), NO(3)(-), etc), identified by the change in the color of the buffered NP solution or the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorbance band in the UV-vis spectrum. Among the recognized anions, four types of variation in the SPR absorption band were revealed. It was strongly enhanced for Cl(-) and Br(-) and was strongly damped for S(2-). For I(-), it first was slightly enhanced at lower concentrations and then gradually was damped at higher concentrations. For SCN(-), it first was slightly damped at lower concentrations and then was strongly enhanced at higher concentrations. In response to the optical change, the color of the NP solution turned from brown to bright yellow for Cl(-) (1 mM), Br(-) (10 μM), and SCN(-) (50 μM) to brownish orange for I(-) (10 μM) and to reddish orange for S(2-) (50 μM). The reason for these phenomena was postulated by the evidence of transmission electron microscope (TEM) images, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and zeta potentials. In view of the importance of anions in the environment and for human health, the Cu@Ag NP colorimetric platform may have some applications, such as discriminating household table salt (NaCl) from industrial salt (NaNO(2)), testing the quality and extent of a variety of waters, and so forth.
Colorimetric Fluorescence of a 2,4,5‐Triaryl Imidazole‐Based Sensor for the Selective Detection of Iron

Abstract:Two imidazole‐based color‐changing fluorescent probes 4‐(4,5‐bis(4‐chlorophenyl)‐1H‐imidazol‐2‐yl)‐N, N‐diphenylaniline (CIN) and 4‐(4,5‐di(furan‐2‐yl)‐1H‐imidazol‐2‐yl)‐N, N‐diphenylaniline (FIN) were synthesized and characterized. The new probes CIN and FIN exhibit excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe3+ with relatively low detection limits and strong anti‐interference properties. Both the probes CIN and FIN complexed 1 : 1 with Fe3+ ion. Two imidazole‐based color‐changing fluorescent probes 4‐(4,5‐bis(4‐chlorophenyl)‐1H‐imidazol‐2‐yl)‐N, N‐diphenylaniline (CIN) and 4‐(4,5‐di(furan‐2‐yl)‐1H‐imidazol‐2‐yl)‐N, N‐diphenylaniline (FIN) were synthesized and characterized. The new probes CIN and FIN exhibit excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe3+ with relatively low detection limits (0.26 μM and 0.10 μM) and strong anti‐interference properties. Both the probes CIN and FIN complex 1 : 1 with Fe3+ ion, and the complexation constants were 1.165×105 M−1 (CIN) and 1.899×105 M−1 (FIN), respectively. Moreover, CIN and FIN could be recycled by EDTA and could effectively monitor Fe3+ ions at pH 4–10, which ensures the sensor's potential for detecting Fe3+ in actual aqueous solutions. The probes were further applied to the detection of Fe3+ in the actual reaction of Fe2+ oxidation, and the filter paper and the probe solution are combined to make an indicator to detect Fe3+ more conveniently and quickly.

Abstract:A surfactant-assisted nanodrop spectrophotometric (NDS) method has been developed for the determination of the iron(III) content in single drops (1 μL) of food, biological, and or environmental sample using disodium 1-nitroso-2-naphthol-3,6-sulfonate (Nitroso-R salt) as a complexing agent and Tween-80 as non-ionic surfactant at pH 4.0. This method is based on the formation of a complex between the Fe(III) present in a sample and the Nitroso-R-salt in the presence of a surfactant to form a green-colored Fe(III)–Nitroso-R salt complex, which can be measured using a NDS method at a λmax= 710 nm. This system was found to obey Beer’s law at concentrations in the range of 50–5000 μg/L with slope, intercept and correlation coefficient values of 0.683, 0.102, and 0.986, respectively. The molar absorptivity of the complex in terms of the Fe(III) content was determined to be 4.86 × 105L·mol–1·cm–1. The detection limit and %RSD values of the method were found to be 17 × 10–3 mg/L and ±1.3706%, respectively. This newly developed method was successfully applied to the determination of the Fe(III) content in single drops of food, biological, and environmental samples, and the results were compared with those obtained by atomic absorption spectrometry.

Abstract:In this work, a novel method for the colorimetric detection of iron (II) by using modified silver nanoparticles was developed. In the detection system, AgNPs were modified with 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA) and 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to form 4-MBA-TMB-AgNPs. The presence of iron (II) caused the aggregation of 4-MBA-TMB-AgNPs through metal-ligand coordination, accompanied by solution color changing from gray-white to purple. Several factors including the ratio of the two modifiers and pH value were optimized. Under optimal conditions, this method showed a good linear from 1.00 x 10(-6) M to 2.00 x 10(-4) M with a correlation coefficient (R-2) of 0.9966 and the detection limit was as low as 1.00 mu M. The method has a great potential for the rapid detection of iron (II) in environmental samples. Particularly, this was successfully applied to the determination of the iron (II) in tap and lake water samples.

Abstract:A detailed study on the electrochemical behaviour of 3′-daidzein sulfonic sodium (Dss) in aqueous medium from pH 1.0 to 6.2 was carried out by means of linear sweep voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry and normal pulse voltammetry. Over the studied pH range, three reduction waves of Dss were achieved. In pH 1.0 - 3.2, Dss showed two reduction waves with the peak potentials at - 0.62 V (Pc 1, vs. SCE) and - 1.15 V (Pc 2, vs. SCE), respectively. The former was an irreversible adsorptive wave of protonized Dss involving one electron and the latter was also an irreversible adsorptive wave of reduction intermediate radical of Dss involving one electron and one proton. Between pH 3.2 - 6.2, Dss showed one reduction wave (Pc 3), which was an irreversible adsorptive wave involving one electron and one proton. Wave of reduction intermediate radical of Dss was overlapped because of a discharge of hydrogen ion into the electrolyte solution. On the surface of mercury electrode, the adsorption of Dss obeyed Frumkin isotherm. In addition, its scavenging effect on superoxide anion radical was studied by the auto-oxidation of pyrogallol in HCl-tris buffer solution (pH 8.2) in order to explain its peculiar biological effects. The experiments have proved that Dss has antioxidant quality, and it is an efficient free radical scavenger of superoxide anion radical.

Abstract:In this study, a rapid, sensitive and reliable spectrophotometric method for peroxydisulfate (PDS) determination in water was established. The proposed spectrophotometric method was based on the oxidation of 2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) (ABTS) to form stable and green-colored ABTS radical (ABTS • + ) by ferrous ion (Fe(II))-catalyzed PDS. The formed ABTS • + performed well linear relationship with PDS concentration (R 2 > 0.999) in the range of 0–60 μM at four wavelengths of 415, 650, 732, and 820 nm under optimized conditions. The proposed Fe(II)-ABTS spectrophotometric method was highly sensitive with the absorptivity of 3.595 × 10 4 M −1 cm −1 , 1.530 × 10 4 M −1 cm −1 , 1.945 × 10 4 M −1 cm −1 and 1.768 × 10 4 M −1 cm −1 at four detection peaks of 415, 650, 732 and 820 nm, respectively. Additionally, the proposed Fe(II)-ABTS spectrophotometric method possessed well anti-interference capacity to common natural water constituents and was reliable to determine PDS concentration in water. What's more, the proposed Fe(II)-ABTS spectrophotometric method was successfully applied in monitoring the change of PDS concentration during the degradation of diclofenac in heat-activated PDS process. In a word, the proposed Fe(II)-ABTS spectrophotometric method could be employed as a promising approach for the rapid and accurate measurement of PDS in water, and this study provided a new perspective for the measurement of PDS by the visible spectrophotometry.

Abstract:The potentiometric curves of 25 basic dyes and 19 quaternary ammonium salts ti-trated with orange Ⅳ (10-3M or 10-4M) have been recorded. A method for evaluating the potentiometric titration curves was suggested and their superiority sequences were established. it was found that some of the curves may be applied in electrochemical analysis with higher sensitivity, and the structure of basic dyes and quaternary ammo-nium salts exerts an influence on the titration curve. The superiority sequences of the titration curves would give a possible approach to find new electroactive substances for anion-selective electrodes.
Study on adsorption of chromium(VI) from aqueous solutions by poly(aniline-co-2,4-diaminophenol)

Abstract:A batch system was used to evaluate the adsorption properties of chromium ion onto a novel copolymer poly(aniline-co-2,4-diaminophenol)(PADAP),which was synthesized by the chemical polymerization process of aniline monomers and 2,4-diaminophenol dihydrochloride.The results showed that the sorbent had excellent adsorption ability for chromium(Ⅵ),and the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic,which follows Langmuir isotherm.The adsorption kinetics followed the mechanism of the pseudo-second-order equation.The pH of solution had a significant impact on adsorption,where the solution pH favored the adsorption was 3~6.The sorbent could be easily eluted by 1 mol/L HNO3,where the desorption efficiency was 98%.Based on the adsorption kinetics and FT-IR analysis,the removal behavior of Cr(Ⅵ) was mainly a combination of electrostatic attraction and ion exchange.
Study on the Determination Method of the Content of Copper

Abstract:A method to determine the content of copper by spectrophotometry with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate was established.The results indicated that under the medium of pH 4～5,the maximum absorption wavelength of the Cu(Ⅱ) and DDTC micellar complex is at 460 nm,the apparent molar absorptivity coefficient is 1.0×104 L/(mol·cm).The Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0～2.4 μg/mL.The recovery is 94.9%～104.1%,with relative standard deviation is 3.1%～5.7%.It is an excellent method to determine constant copper at acidic conditions as well as exclute the interference of a large number of silver by choosing the appropriate conditions.The proposed method has been applied in determination of copper in sample of silver coated copper powder with satisfactory results.
Gold Nanoparticles Based Digital Color Analysis for Quinidine Detection

Abstract:In this contribution,we developed a novel digital color analysis of gold nanoparticles(AuNPs) for pharmaceutical detection by choosing quinidine as an example.It was found that the color of AuNPs colloid solution changed from red to blue in the presence of different concentrations of quinidine,and the color information of each solution could be digitalized with tricolor(RGB) system.Under the optimum conditions,the R value of the solution was found to be linear with the natural logarithm of concentration of quinidine in the range of 112 384 nmol/L.This method has the advantages of rapid,economical and simple,and can serve as a potential alternative to traditional spectrophotometry for practical use.
