Therefore, they are accessible to a mathematician of any speciality willing to understand the subject. A much more complete introduction to K-theory may be found in the "Handbook of K-theory", recently edited by Springer.

On some recent developments in Kähler geometry

Abstract:These are related, because the ideas involved in (1) form one of the main foundations for (2). More precisely, the proof of the Yau conjecture relies on an extension of the partial C estimate to metrics with conic singularities. Gang Tian has made claims to credit for these results. The purpose of this document is to rebut these claims on the grounds of originality, priority and correctness of the mathematical arguments. We acknowledge Tian’s many contributions to this field in the past and, partly for this reason, we have avoided raising our objections publicly over the last 15 months, but it seems now that this is the course we have to take in order to document the facts. In addition, this seems to us the responsible action to take and one we owe to our colleagues, especially those affected by these developments.

Abstract:The 1950s belong to one of the most glorious decades for geometry and topology.A group of young mathematicians established a wealth of great theorems, made ground breaking discoveries, and created a new era in mathematics.These men leave their names in the history of mathematics.Hodge theory was just completed by Weyl and Kodaira in 1941.By exploiting the Chern characteristic classes introduced by Shiing-Shen Chern, Hirzebruch proved the signature theorem and the Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch theorem in algebraic geometry in 1956.The engineer-turn-mathematician Bott proved the periodicity theorem on homotopy groups.These results would soon inspire Atiyah and Singer to prove their index theorem.Serre calculated the homotopy groups of spheres in algebraic topology using Leray spectral sequence, wrote the famous GAGA in algebraic geometry using sheaf theory, and systematically introduced complex analysis to algebraic geometry.Kodaira proved his famous embedding theorem, and developed deformation theory of complex manifolds.Later, Milnor found the first exotic sphere in dimension 7 and Nash proved his isometric embedding theorem for Riemannian manifolds.These great results are like stars shining in the sky.On Amsterdam's 1954 International Congress of Mathematicians, Kodaira and Serre were awarded Fields medals.Both of their works merged complex analysis, differential geometry and algebraic geometry in a miraculous fashion.As Weyl said in his famous encomium: "You reached heights of which I never dreamt… It shows that the old gnarled tree of mathematics is still full of sap and life."On the very occasion, Eugenio Calabi, a 31-year-old Italian-American mathematician, wrote down his famous conjecture on a sheet of paper during his talk, "For any (1,1)-form R in the first Chern class of a compact Kähler manifold, there exists a unique Kähler metric whose Ricci form is equal to R." Abstract:We define a notion of formal quantum field theory and associate a formal quantum field theory to K-theoretical intersection theories on Hilbert schemes of points on algebraic surfaces. This enables us to find an effective way to compute K-theoretical intersection theories on Hilbert schemes via a connection to Macdonald polynomials and vertex operators.

Abstract:The present work is the author's doctoral thesis, written during his studies at the University of Bonn. Its goal is to establish the foundations of $K$-theory in the context of adic geometry using the formalism of condensed mathematics and Efimov's results on localizing invariants of dualizable categories. In particular, we study the descent properties of our version of $K$-theory and prove that it satisfies Nisnevich descent on analytic adic spaces. Furthermore, we show that $K$-theory forms a sheaf with respect to the étale topology after chromatic localization. Finally, we use this result to prove an analog of the Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem for analytic adic spaces.

Abstract:We analyze topological invariants, in particular Z2 invariants, which characterize time reversal invariant topological insulators, in the framework of index theory and K-theory. After giving a careful study of the underlying geometry and K-theory, we formalize topological invariants as elements of KR theory. To be precise, the strong topological invariants lie in the higher KR groups of spheres; KR̃−j−1(SD+1,d). Here j is a KR-cycle index, as well as an index counting off the Altland-Zirnbauer classification of Time Reversal Symmetry (TRS) and Particle Hole Symmetry (PHS)—as we show. In this setting, the computation of the invariants can be seen as the evaluation of the natural pairing between KR-cycles and KR-classes. This fits with topological and analytical index computations as well as with Poincaré Duality and the Baum–Connes isomorphism for free Abelian groups. We provide an introduction starting from the basic objects of real, complex and quaternionic structures which are the mathematical objects corresponding to TRS and PHS. We furthermore detail the relevant bundles and K-theories (Real and Quaternionic) that lead to the classification as well as the topological setting for the base spaces.

And we use this map to answer affirmatively(after slight modification) a question by Mark Green and Phillip Griffiths in [8] on constructing a map from the tangent space to the Hilbert scheme to the tangent space to the cycle group.

Abstract:Of the light nuclides observed in the universe today, D, 3He, 4He, and 7Li are relics from its early evolution. The primordial abundances of these relics, produced via Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) during the first half hour of the evolution of the universe provide a unique window on Physics and Cosmology at redshifts of order 10^10. Comparing the BBN-predicted abundances with those inferred from observational data tests the consistency of the standard model of cosmology over ten orders of magnitude in redshift, constrains the baryon and other particle content of the universe, and probes both Cosmology and Physics beyond their current standard models. These lectures are intended to introduce students, both of theory and observation, to those aspects of the evolution of the universe relevant to the production and evolution of the light nuclides from the Big Bang to the present. The current observational data is reviewed and compared with the BBN predictions and the implications for cosmology (e.g., universal baryon density) and particle physics (e.g., relativistic energy density) are discussed. While this comparison reveals the stunning success of the standard model(s), there are currently some challenges which leave open the door for more theoretical and observational work with potential implications for astronomy, cosmology, and particle physics.

$K$-theory of crossed products via homotopy theory

Abstract:In this paper we analyse for a $G$-$C^{*}$-algebra $A$ to which extent one can calculate the $K$-theory of the reduced crossed product $K(A\rtimes_{r}G)$ from the $K$-theory spectrum $K(A)$ with the induced $G$-action. We also consider some cases where one allows to use the $K$-theories of crossed products for some proper subgroups of $G$. Our central goal is to demonstrate the usefulness of a homotopy theoretic approach. We mainly concentrate on finite groups.

Abstract:We build on previous work on multirings (\cite{roberto2021quadratic}) that provides generalizations of the available abstract quadratic forms theories (special groups and real semigroups) to the context of multirings (\cite{marshall2006real}, \cite{ribeiro2016functorial}). Here we raise one step in this generalization, introducing the concept of pre-special hyperfields and expand a fundamental tool in quadratic forms theory to the more general multivalued setting: the K-theory. We introduce and develop the K-theory of hyperbolic hyperfields that generalize simultaneously Milnor's K-theory (\cite{milnor1970algebraick}) and Special Groups K-theory, developed by Dickmann-Miraglia (\cite{dickmann2006algebraic}). We develop some properties of this generalized K-theory, that can be seen as a free inductive graded ring, a concept introduced in \cite{dickmann1998quadratic} in order to provide a solution of Marshall's Signature Conjecture.

Abstract:We associate to a full flag $\mathcal{F}$ in an $n$-dimensional variety $X$ over a field $k$, a "symbol map" $\mu_{\mathcal{F}}:K(F_X) \to \Sigma^n K(k)$. Here, $F_X$ is the field of rational functions on $X$, and $K(\cdot)$ is the $K$-theory spectrum. We prove a "reciprocity law" for these symbols: Given a partial flag, the sum of all symbols of full flags refining it is $0$. Examining this result on the level of $K$-groups, we re-obtain various "reciprocity laws". Namely, when $X$ is a smooth complete curve, we obtain degree of a principal divisor is zero, Weil reciprocity, Residue theorem, Contou-Carrère reciprocity. When $X$ is higher-dimensional, we obtain Parshin reciprocity.

Abstract:We establish connections between the concepts of Noetherian, regular coherent, and regular n-coherent categories for Z-linear categories with finitely many objects and the corresponding notions for unital rings. These connections enable us to obtain a negative K-theory vanishing result, a fundamental theorem, and a homotopy invariance result for the K-theory of Z-linear categories.

Abstract:We revisit the computation, due to Hesselholt and Madsen, of the K-theory of truncated polynomial algebras for perfect fields of positive characteristic. The resulting K-groups are expressed in terms of big Witt vectors of the field. The original proof relied on an understanding of cyclic polytopes in order to determine the genuine equivariant homotopy type of the cyclic bar construction for a suitable monoid. Using the Nikolaus-Scholze framework for topological cyclic homology we achieve the same result using only the homology of said cyclic bar construction, as well as the action of Connes' operator.

Abstract:Equivariant $K$-theory is a generalized equivariant cohomology theory which is a hybrid of the $K$-theory of a topological space and the representation theory of the group acting on it. In this article, we review the basics of equivariant $K$-theory and focus on the localization theorem and formula due to Atiyah and Segal, which have become important tools in equivariant topology nowadays. We then discuss the application of equivariant $K$-theory to equivariant formality, and briefly mention some recent developments.

Abstract:We develop a new framework to study real $K$-theory in the context of $\infty$-categories. For this, we introduce Waldhausen $\infty$-categories with genuine duality, which will be the input for such $K$-theory. These are Waldhausen $\infty$-categories in the sense of Barwick equipped with a compatible duality and a refinement of their (lax) hermitian objects generalizing the concept of Poincaré $\infty$-categories of Lurie. They may also be thought of as a version of complete Segal spaces enriched in genuine $C_2$-spaces whose underlying $\infty$-category carries a compatible Waldhausen structure, since we show that their respective $\infty$-categories are equivalent. We define the real $K$-theory genuine $C_2$-spaces by means of an enriched version of the $S_\bullet$-construction, defined for Waldhausen $\infty$-categories with genuine duality. Moreover, we prove an Additivity Theorem for this $S_\bullet$-construction which leads to an Additivity Theorem for real $K$-theory. Furthermore, such real $K$-theory satisfy a universal property -- analogous to that proved by Barwick for algebraic $K$-theory of Waldhausen $\infty$-categories --: We prove that every theory can be universally turned into an additive theory and identify our real K-theory with the universal additive theory associated to the functor that associates to a Waldhausen $\infty$-category with genuine duality its maximal subspace. Finally, we promote the real $K$-theory genuine $C_2$-spaces to genuine $C_2$-spectra.
