Abstract:We consider the possible role that chiral orbifold conformal field theories may play in describing the edge state theories of quantum Hall systems. This is a generalization of work that already exists in the literature, where it has been shown that 1+1 chiral bosons living on a n-dimensional torus, and which couple to a U_1 gauge field, give rise to anomalous electric currents, the anomaly being related to the Hall conductivity. The well known $O(n,n;Z)$ duality group associated with such toroidal conformal field theories transforms the edge states and Hall conductivities in a way which makes interesting connections between different theories, e.g. between systems exhibiting the integer and fractional quantum Hall effect. In this paper we try to explore the extension of these constructions to the case where such bosons live on a n-dimensional orbifold. We give a general formalism for discussing the relevant quantities like the Hall conductance and their transformation under the duality groups present in orbifold compactifications. We illustrate these ideas by presenting a detailed analysis of a toy model based on the two-dimensional Z_3 orbifold. In this model we obtain new classes of filling fractions, which generally the correspond to fermionic edge states carrying fractional electric charge. We also consider the relation between orbifold edge theories and Luttinger liquids (LL's), which in the past have provided important insights into the physics of quantum Hall systems.

Abstract:For vertex operator algebra V_{\sqrt{2}A_l} associated to the even lattice \sqrt{2}A_l which is \sqrt{2} times root lattice of type A_l, it was shown by Dong-Li-Maosn-Norton that the Virasoro vector is a sum of l+1 mutually orthogonal conformal vectors with central charges c_i=1-6/(i+2)(i+3) for i=1,...,l and c_{l+1}=2l/(l+3) and the subalgebra T generated by these vectors is a tensor product of Virasoro vertex operator algebras L(c_i,0). In this paper we determine the decomposition of V_{\sqrt{2}A_3} into the sum of irreducible T-modules completely.

Abstract:Let $Q$ be a non-degenerated even lattice, let $V_Q$ be the lattice vertex algebra associated to $Q$, and let $V_Q^\eta$ be a quantum lattice vertex algebra. In this paper, we prove the equivalence between the category $V_Q$-modules and the category of $V_Q^\eta$-modules. As a consequence, we show that every $V_Q^\eta$-module is completely reducible, and the set of simple $V_Q^\eta$-modules are in one-to-one correspondence with the set of cosets of $Q$ in its dual lattice.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. Let [math] be the vertex algebra associated with a non-degenerate and non-positive definite even lattice [math] and [math] the fixed point subalgebra of [math] under the action of the automorphism induced from the [math]-isometry of [math]. We determine the fusion rules for weak [math]-modules. As an application of this result, we classify the irreducible weak modules for the fixed point subalgebra of [math] under the action of the automorphism induced from an isometry of [math] of order [math]. We also show that every weak module for the same fixed point subalgebra is completely reducible.

Abstract:Let $L((n-\tfrac 3 2)\Lambda_0)$, $n \in \Bbb N$, be a vertex operator algebra associated to the irreducible highest weight module $L((n-\tfrac 3 2)\Lambda_0)$ for a symplectic affine Lie algebra. We find a complete set of irreducible modules for $L((n-\tfrac 3 2)\Lambda_0)$ and show that every module for $L((n-\tfrac 3 2)\Lambda_0)$ from the category $\Cal O$ is completely reducible.

Abstract:We give an abstract construction, based on the Belavin-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov equations, of a family of vertex operator algebras of rank $26$ associated to the modified regular representations of the Virasoro algebra. The vertex operators are obtained from the tensor products of intertwining operators for a pair of Virasoro algebras. We explicitly determine the structure coefficients that yield the axioms of VOAs. In the process of our construction, we obtain new hypergeometric identities.

Abstract:In this article, we study the automorphism group of the cyclic orbifold of a vertex operator algebra associated with a rootless even lattice for a lift of a fixed-point free isometry of odd prime order $p$. We prove that such a cyclic orbifold contains extra automorphisms, not induced from automorphisms of the lattice vertex operator algebra, if and only if the rootless even lattice can be constructed by Construction B from a code over $\mathbb{Z}_p$ or is isometric to the coinvariant lattice of the Leech lattice associated with a certain isometry of order $p$.

Abstract:Assumed data streams from a delayed choice gedanken experiment must satisfy a Bell's identity independently of locality assumptions. The violation of Bell's inequality by assumed correlations of identical form among these data streams implies that they cannot all result from statistically equivalent variables of a homogeneous process. This is consistent with both the requirements of arithmetic and distinctions between commuting and noncommuting observables in quantum mechanics. Neglect of these distinctions implies a logical loophole in the conventional interpretation of Bell's inequalities.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce and study new classes of subVOAs of the lattice vertex operator algebras, which we call the conic, Borel, and parabolic-type subVOAs. These CFT-type VOAs, which are not necessarily strongly finitely generated, satisfy similar properties with the usual Borel and parabolic subalgebras of a Lie algebra. For the lowest-rank nontrivial example of Borel-type subVOA $V_{B}$ of $V_{\Z\al}$, we explicitly determine its Zhu's algebra $A(V_B)$ in terms of generators and relations.

Abstract:Let $L_{\widehat{osp(1|2)}}(\mathcal{l},0)$ be the simple affine vertex operator superalgebra with admissible level $\mathcal{l}$. We prove that the category of weak $L_{\widehat{osp(1|2)}}(\mathcal{l},0)$-modules on which the positive part of $\widehat{osp(1|2)}$ acts locally nilpotent is semisimple. Then we prove that $\mathbb{Q}$-graded vertex operator superalgebras $(L_{\widehat{osp(1|2)}}(\mathcal{l},0),\omega_\xi)$ with new Virasoro elements $\omega_\xi$ are rational and the irreducible modules are exactly the admissible modules for $\widehat{osp(1|2)}$, where $0<\xi<1$ is a rational number. Furthermore, we determine the Zhu's algebras $A(L_{\widehat{osp(1|2)}}(\mathcal{l},0))$ and their bimodules $A(L(\mathcal{l},\mathcal{j}))$ for $(L_{\widehat{osp(1|2)}}(\mathcal{l},0),\omega_\xi)$, where $\mathcal{j}$ is the admissible weight. As an application, we calculate the fusion rules among the irreducible ordinary modules of $(L_{\widehat{osp(1|2)}}(\mathcal{l},0),\omega_\xi)$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study a new kind of vertex operator algebras related to twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra. We showed that there exist one-to-one correspondences between the restricted module categories of twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebras of rank one and rank two and several different kinds of module categories of their corresponding vertex algebras. We also study in detail the structures of the twisted HeisenbergVirasoro vertex operator algebra and give a characterization of it as a tensor product of two well-known vertex operator algebras.
