Abstract:Na4MnCr(PO4)3 (NMCP) has garnered significant interest as a potential cathode for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its impressive energy density resulting from three-electron reactions. Nevertheless, its low intrinsic conductivity and the sluggish Na+ diffusion hinder it from commercial applications. Herein, to overcome the above obstacles, K-ions were chosen as pillar components to be doped into Na sites in NMCP, and how the K doping affects the electrochemical performance of NMCP were thoroughly investigated. Consequently, the as-prepared Na3.88K0.12MnCr(PO4)3/C (K12-NMCP/C) was found to be the optimal sample, which delivers an ultrahigh discharge capacity of 152.4 mAh/g at 50 mA g−1 and an outstanding rate capability of 69.9 mAh/g at 1000 mA g−1, as compared with that (105.5 and 44.3 mAh/g) of undoped NMCP. Additionally, K12-NMCP/C provides higher capacity retention than that of undoped NMCP. The partial substitution of Na+ by larger K+ can increase intrinsic conductivity, promote Na+ diffusion rate and reinforce structural stability. Moreover, a K12-NMCP/C||HC full cell was successfully assembled, which exhibits a high energy density of 448.5 Wh Kg−1. This work offers new avenue to the design of high-performance and durable NMCP-based cathodes for SIBs.
