Abstract:We introduce invertible subalgebras of local operator algebras on lattices. An invertible subalgebra is defined to be one such that every local operator can be locally expressed by elements of the inveritible subalgebra and those of the commutant. On a two-dimensional lattice, an invertible subalgebra hosts a chiral anyon theory by a commuting Hamiltonian, which is believed not to be possible on any full local operator algebra. We prove that the stable equivalence classes of $\mathsf d$-dimensional invertible subalgebras form an abelian group under tensor product, isomorphic to the group of all $\mathsf d + 1$ dimensional QCA modulo blending equivalence and shifts. In an appendix, we consider a metric on the group of all QCA on infinite lattices and prove that the metric completion contains the time evolution by local Hamiltonians, which is only approximately locality-preserving. Our metric topology is strictly finer than the strong topology.

Abstract:We show that diagonal subalgebras and generalized Veronese subrings of a bigraded Koszul algebra are Koszul. We give upper bounds for the regularity of sidediagonal and relative Veronese modules and apply the results to symmetric algebras and Rees rings.

Abstract:Here we announce the construction and properties of a big commutative subalgebra of the Kirillov algebra attached to a finite dimensional irreducible representation of a complex semisimple Lie group. They are commutative finite flat algebras over the cohomology of the classifying space of the group. They are isomorphic with the equivariant intersection cohomology of affine Schubert varieties, endowing them with a new ring structure. Study of the finer aspects of the structure of the big algebras will also furnish the stalks of the intersection cohomology with ring structure, thus ringifying Lusztig's q-weight multiplicity polynomials i.e. affine Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.

Abstract:For an arbitrary octonion algebra, we determine all subalgebras. It turns out that every subalgebra of dimension less than four is associative, while every subalgebra of dimension greater than four is not associative. In any split octonion algebra, there are both associative and non-associative subalgebras of dimension four. Except for one-dimensional subalgebras spanned by idempotents, any two isomorphic subalgebras are in the same orbit under automorphisms.

Abstract:The oracle c.c.c. is closely related to Cohen forcing. During an iteration we can ``omit a type''; i.e. preserve ``the intersection of a given family of Borel sets of reals is empty'' provided that Cohen forcing satisfies it. We generalize this to other cases. We replace Cohen by ``nicely'' definable c.c.c., do the parallel of the oracle c.c.c. and end with a criterion for extracting a subforcing (not a complete subforcing) of a given nicely one and satisfying the oracle.

Abstract:We study absolutely Koszul algebras, Koszul algebras with the Backelin-Roos property and their behavior under standard algebraic operations. In particular, we identify some Veronese subrings of polynomial rings that have the Backelin-Roos property and conjecture that the list is indeed complete. Among other things, we prove that every universally Koszul ring defined by monomials has the Backelin-Roos property.

Koszul Lie algebras and their subalgebras

Abstract:This paper examines (restricted) Koszul Lie algebras, a class of positively graded Lie algebras with a quadratic presentation and specific cohomological properties. The study employs HNN-extensions as a key tool for decomposing and analysing these algebras. Building on a previous work on Koszul Lie algebras ("Kurosh theorem for certain Koszul Lie algebras", S. Blumer), this paper also deals with Bloch-Kato Lie algebras, which constitute a distinguished subclass of that of Koszul Lie algebras where all subalgebras generated by elements of degree $1$ have a quadratic presentation. It is shown that Bloch-Kato Lie algebras satisfy a version of the Levi decomposition theorem and that they satisfy the Toral Rank Conjecture. Two new families of such Lie algebras are introduced, including all graded Lie algebras generated in degree $1$ and defined by two quadratic relations. Throughout the paper, we show many properties of right-angled Artin graded (RAAG) Lie algebras, which form a large class of Koszul Lie algebras.

Abstract:In answer to a question on Mathoverflow we show that the Boolean algebra $\mathcal{P}(\omega)/\mathit{fin}$ contains a family $\{\mathcal{B}_X:X\subseteq\mathfrak{c}\}$ of subalgebras with the property that $X\subseteq Y$ implies $\mathcal{B}_Y$ is a subalgebra of $\mathcal{B}_X$ and if $X\not\subseteq Y$ then $\mathcal{B}_Y$ is not embeddable into~$\mathcal{B}_X$. The proof proceeds by Stone duality and the construction of a suitable family of separable zero-dimensional compact spaces.

Abstract:This paper concerns the non-commutative analog of the Normal Subgroup Theorem for certain groups. Inspired by Kalantar-Panagopoulos, we show that all $\Gamma$-invariant subalgebras of $L\Gamma$ and $C^*_r(\Gamma)$ are ($\Gamma$-) co-amenable. The groups we work with satisfy a singularity phenomenon described in Bader-Boutonnet-Houdayer-Peterson. The setup of singularity allows us to obtain a description of $\Gamma$-invariant intermediate von Neumann subalgebras $L^{\infty}(X,\xi)\subset\mathcal{M}\subset L^{\infty}(X,\xi)\rtimes\Gamma$ in terms of the normal subgroups of $\Gamma$.

Abstract:We prove that any Boolean algebra with the subsequential completeness property contains an independent family of size continuum. This improves a result of Argyros from the 80ties which asserted the existence of an uncountable independent family. In fact we prove it for a bigger class of Boolean algebras satisfying much weaker properties. It follows that the Stone spaces of all such Boolean algebras contains a copy of the Cech-Stone compactification of the integers and the Banach space of contnuous functions on them has $l_\infty$ as a quotient. Connections with the Grothendieck property in Banach spaces are discussed.

Abstract:We investigate some new classes of operator algebras which we call semi-$\sigma$-finite subdiagonal and Riesz approximable. These constitute the most general setting to date for a noncommutative Hardy space theory based on Arveson's subdiagonal algebras. We develop this theory and study the properties of these new classes.

Abstract:We delve into the properties possessed by algebras, which we have termed seeds, that map to big Cohen-Macaulay algebras. We will show that over a complete local domain of positive characteristic any two big Cohen-Macaulay algebras map to a common big Cohen-Macaulay algebra. We will also strengthen Hochster and Huneke's "weakly functorial" existence result for big Cohen-Macaulay algebras by showing that the seed property is stable under base change between complete local domains of positive characteristic. We also show that every seed over a positive characteristic local ring (R,m) maps to a big Cohen-Macaulay R-algebra that is an absolutely integrally closed, m-adically separated, quasilocal domain.

Abstract:In the present paper, it is proved that any complete local domain of mixed characteristic has a weakly almost Cohen-Macaulay algebra in the sense that some system of parameters is a weakly almost regular sequence, which is a notion defined via a valuation. The central idea of this result originates from the main statement obtained by Heitmann to prove the Monomial Conjecture in dimension 3. In fact, A weakly almost Cohen-Macaulay algebra is constructed over the absolute integral closure of a complete local domain by applying the methods of Fontaine rings and Witt vectors. A connection of the main theorem with the Monomial Conjecture is also discussed.

Abstract:This paper is a sequel to <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2307.13358" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.13358">arXiv:2307.13358</a> and <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2308.16090" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2308.16090">arXiv:2308.16090</a>. A construction associating a semialgebra with an algebra, subalgebra, and a coalgebra dual to the subalgebra played a central role in the author's book <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0708.3398" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0708.3398">arXiv:0708.3398</a>. In this paper, we extend this construction to certain nonunital algebras. The resulting semialgebra is still semiunital over a counital coalgebra. In particular, we associate semialgebras to locally finite subcategories in $k$-linear categories. Examples include the Temperley-Lieb and Brauer diagram categories and the Reedy category of simplices in a simplicial set.

Abstract:Together with Koenig and Ovsienko, the first author showed that every quasi-hereditary algebra can be obtained as the (left or right) dual of a directed bocs. In this monograph, we prove that if one additionally assumes that the bocs is basic, a notion we define, then this bocs is unique up to isomorphism. This should be seen as a generalisation of the statement that the basic algebra of an arbitrary associative algebra is unique up to isomorphism. The proof associates to a given presentation of the bocs an $A_\infty$-structure on the $\operatorname{Ext}$-algebra of the standard modules of the corresponding quasi-hereditary algebra. Uniqueness then follows from an application of Kadeishvili's theorem.

Abstract:The class of algebras of Jordan type $\eta$ was introduced by Hall, Rehren and Shpectorov in 2015 within the much broader class of axial algebras. Algebras of Jordan type are commutative algebras $A$ over a field of characteristic not $2$, generated by primitive idempotents, called axes, whose adjoint action on $A$ has minimal polynomial dividing $(x-1)x(x-\eta)$ and where multiplication of eigenvectors follows the rules similar to the Peirce decomposition in Jordan algebras.
