Abstract:Investigating the spectral and temporal characteristics of the X-rays coming from Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) is essential to our development of a more complete understanding of the emission mechanisms in this supermassive black hole located at the center of our Galaxy. Several X-ray flares with varying durations and spectral features have already been observed from this object. Here we present the results of two long XMM-Newton observations of the Galactic nucleus carried out in 2004, for a total exposure time of nearly 500 ks. During these observations we detected two flares from Sgr A* with peak 2-10 keV luminosities about 40 times (L ~ 9x10^34 erg s−1) above the quiescent luminosity: one on 2004 March 31 and another on 2004 August 31. The first flare lasted about 2.5 ks and the second about 5 ks. The combined fit on the Epic spectra yield photon indeces of about 1.5 and 1.9 for the first and second flare respectively. This hard photon index strongly suggests the presence of an important population of non-thermal electrons during the event and supports the view that the majority of flaring events tend to be hard and not very luminous.

Abstract:We consider ordered universal algebras and give a construction of a join-completion for them using so-called 𝒟 -ideals. We show that this construction has a universal property that induces a reflector from a certain category of ordered algebras to the category of sup-algebras. Our results generalize several earlier known results about different ordered structures.

Abstract:We demonstrate that commutativity of numerous one-dimensional subalgebras in $W_{1+\infty}$ algebra, i.e. the existence of many non-trivial integrable systems described in recent <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2303.05273" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2303.05273">arXiv:2303.05273</a> follows from the subset of relations in algebra known as Serre relations. No other relations are needed for commutativity. The Serre relations survive the deformation to the affine Yangian $Y(\hat{\mathfrak{gl}}_1)$, hence the commutative subalgebras do as well. A special case of the Yangian parameters corresponds to the $\beta$-deformation. The preservation of Serre relations can be thought of a selection rule for proper systems of commuting $\beta$-deformed Hamiltonians. On the contrary, commutativity in the extended family associated with ``rational (non-integer) rays" is {\it not} reduced to the Serre relations, and uses also other relations in the $W_{1+\infty}$ algebra. Thus their $\beta$-deformation is less straightforward.

Abstract:We show how any finite-dimensional algebra can be realized as an idempotent subquotient of some symmetric quasi-hereditary algebra. In the special case of rigid symmetric algebras we show that they can be realized as centralizer subalgebras of symmetric quasi-hereditary algebras. We also show that the infinite-dimensional symmetric quasi-hereditary algebras we construct admit quasi-hereditary structure with respect to two opposite orders, that they have strong exact Borel and $\Delta$-subalgebras and the corresponding triangular decompositions.

Abstract:In answer to a question on Mathoverflow we show that the Boolean algebra $\mathcal{P}(\omega)/\mathit{fin}$ contains a family $\{\mathcal{B}_X:X\subseteq\mathfrak{c}\}$ of subalgebras with the property that $X\subseteq Y$ implies $\mathcal{B}_Y$ is a subalgebra of $\mathcal{B}_X$ and if $X\not\subseteq Y$ then $\mathcal{B}_Y$ is not embeddable into~$\mathcal{B}_X$. The proof proceeds by Stone duality and the construction of a suitable family of separable zero-dimensional compact spaces.

Representing Sugihara monoids via weakening relations

Abstract:We show that all Sugihara monoids can be represented as algebras of binary relations, with the monoid operation given by relational composition. Moreover, the binary relations are weakening relations. The first step is to obtain an explicit relational representation of all finite odd Sugihara chains. Our construction mimics that of Maddux (2010), where a relational representation of the finite even Sugihara chains is given. We define the class of representable Sugihara monoids as those which can be represented as reducts of distributive involutive FL-algebras of binary relations. We then show that the class of representable distributive involutive FL-algebras is closed under ultraproducts. This fact is used to demonstrate that the two infinite Sugihara monoids that generate the quasivariety are also representable. From this it follows that all Sugihara monoids are representable.

Abstract:We show that the theory of De Morgan algebras has a model completion and axiomatise it. Then we prove that it is $\aleph_0$-categorical and describe definable and algebraic closures in that theory. We also obtain similar results for Boole-De Morgan algebras.

Abstract:In this paper we give an alternative construction using Monk like algebras that are binary generated to show that the class of strongly representable atom structures is not elementary. The atom structures of such algebras are cylindric basis of relation algebras, both algebras are based on one graph such that both the relation and cylindric algebras are representable if and only if the chromatic number of the graph is infinite. We also relate the syntactic notion of algebras having a (complete) neat embedding property to the semantical notion of having various forms of (complete) relativized representations. Finally, we show that for n>5, the problemn as to whether a finite algebra is in the class SNr_3CA_6 is undecidable. In contrast, we show that for a finite algebra of arbitary finite dimensions that embed into extra dimensions of a another finite algebra, then this algebra have a finite relativized representation. Finally we devise what we call neat games, for such a game if \pe\ has a \ws \ on an atomic algebra \A in certain atomic game and \pa has a \ws in another atomic game, then such algebras are elementary equivalent to neat reducts, but do not have relativized (local) complete represenations. From such results, we infer that the omitting types theorem for finite variable fragments fails even if we consider clique guarded semantics. The size of cliques are determined by the number of pebbles used by \pa\.

Abstract:The connections between Tarski's relation algebras and Thompson's groups F, T, V, and his monoid M are reviewed here, along with Jonsson-Tarski algebras, fork algebras, true pairing algebras, and tabular relation algebras. All of these algebras are related to the finitization problem and to Tarski's formalization of set theory without variables. Most of the technical details occur in the variety of J-algebras, which is obtained from relation algebras by omitting union and complementation and adopting a set of axioms created by Jonsson. Every relation algebra or J-algebra that contains a pair of conjugated quasiprojections satisfying the Domain and Unicity conditions, such as those that arise from Jonsson-Tarski algebras or fork algebras, will also contain homomorphic images of F, T, V, and M. The representability of tabular relation algebras is extended here to J-algebras, using a notion of tabularity that is equivalent among relation algebras to the original definition.

Abstract:International Journal of Algebra and Computation, Ahead of Print. We investigate notions of complete representation by partial functions, where the operations in the signature include antidomain restriction and may include composition, intersection, update, preferential union, domain, antidomain, and set difference. When the signature includes both antidomain restriction and intersection, the join-complete and the meet-complete representations coincide. Otherwise, for the signatures we consider, meet-complete is strictly stronger than join-complete. A necessary condition to be meet-completely representable is that the atoms are separating. For the signatures we consider, this condition is sufficient if and only if composition is not in the signature. For each of the signatures we consider, the class of (meet-)completely representable algebras is not axiomatizable by any existential-universal-existential first-order theory. For 14 expressively distinct signatures, we show, by giving an explicit representation, that the (meet-)completely representable algebras form a basic elementary class, axiomatizable by a universal-existential-universal first-order sentence. The signatures we axiomatize are those containing antidomain restriction and any of intersection, update, and preferential union and also those containing antidomain restriction, composition, and intersection and any of update, preferential union, domain, and antidomain.

Abstract:A finite algebra $\bA=\alg{A;\cF}$ is \emph{dualizable} if there exists a discrete topological relational structure $\BA=\alg{A;\cG;\cT}$, compatible with $\cF$, such that the canonical evaluation map $e\_{\bB}\colon \bB\to \Hom( \Hom(\bB,\bA),\BA)$ is an isomorphism for every $\bB$ in the quasivariety generated by $\bA$. Here, $e\_{\bB}$ is defined by $e\_{\bB}(x)(f)=f(x)$ for all $x\in B$ and all $f\in \Hom(\bB,\bA)$. We prove that, given a finite congruence-modular Abelian algebra $\bA$, the set of all relations compatible with $\bA$, up to a certain arity, \emph{entails} the whole set of all relations compatible with $\bA$. By using a classical compactness result, we infer that $\bA$ is dualizable. Moreover we can choose a dualizing alter-ego with only relations of arity $\le 1+\alpha^3$, where $\alpha$ is the largest exponent of a prime in the prime decomposition of $\card{A}$. This improves Kearnes and Szendrei result that modules are dualizable, and Bentz and Mayr's result that finite modules with constants are dualizable. This also solves a problem stated by Bentz and Mayr in 2013.

Abstract:For monomial special multiserial algebras, which in general are of wild representation type, we construct radical embeddings into algebras of finite representation type. As a consequence, we show that the representation dimension of monomial and self-injective special multiserial algebras is less or equal to three. This implies that the finitistic dimension conjecture holds for all special multiserial algebras.

Abstract:We define the completion of an associative algebra $A$ in a set $M=\{M_1,\dots,M_r\}$ of $r$ right $A$-modules in such a way that if $\mathfrak a\subseteq A$ is an ideal in a commutative ring $A$ the completion $A$ in the (right) module $A/\mathfrak a$ is $\hat A^M\simeq \hat A^{\mathfrak a}.$ This works by defining $\hat A^M$ as a formal algebra determined up to a computation in a category called GMMP-algebras. From deformation theory we get that the computation results in a formal algebra which is the prorepresenting hull of the noncommutative deformation functor, and this hull is unique up to isomorphism.

Abstract:This article presents a new relation between the basic representation of split real simply-laced affine Kac-Moody algebras and finite dimensional representations of its maximal compact subalgebra $\mathfrak{k}$. We provide infinitely many $\mathfrak{k}$-subrepresentations of the basic representation and we prove that these are all the finite dimensional $\mathfrak{k}$-subrepresentations of the basic representation such that the quotient of the basic representation by the subrepresentation is a finite dimensional representation of a certain parabolic algebra and of the maximal compact subalgebra. By this result we provide an infinite composition series with a cosocle filtration of the basic representation. Finally, we present examples of the results and applications to supergravity.

Abstract:An ordered algebra is called a sup-algebra if its underlying poset is a complete lattice and its operations are compatible with joins in each variable. In this article we study quotients and subalgebras of sup-algebras. We show that the congruence lattice of a sup-algebra is isomorphic to the lattice of its nuclei and dually isomorphic to the lattice of its meet-closed subalgebras. We also prove that the lattice of subalgebras of a sup-algebra is isomorphic to the lattice of its conuclei.

Abstract:Given any irreducible inclusion $\mB \subset \mA$ of unital $C^*$-algebras with a finite-index conditional expectation $E: \mA \to \mB$, we show that the set of $E$-compatible intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras is finite, thereby generalizing a finiteness result of Ino and Watatani (from \cite{IW}). A finiteness result for a certain collection of intermediate $C^*$-subalgebras of a non-irreducible inclusion of simple unital $C^*$-algebras is also obtained, which provides a $C^*$-version of a finiteness result of Khoshkam and Mashood (from \cite{KM}).
