Abstract:Driven by breakthroughs in experimental and theoretical techniques, the study of non-equilibrium quantum physics is a rapidly expanding field with many exciting new developments. Amongst the manifold ways the topic can be investigated, one dimensional system provide a particularly fine platform. The trifecta of strongly correlated physics, powerful theoretical techniques and experimental viability have resulted in a flurry of research activity over the last decade or so. In this review we explore the non equilibrium aspects of one dimensional systems which are integrable. Through a number of illustrative examples we discuss non equilibrium phenomena which arise in such models, the role played by integrability and the consequences these have for more generic systems.

Abstract:In these lecture notes we aim for a pedagogical introduction to both classical and quantum integrability. Starting from Liouville integrability and passing through Lax pair and r-matrix we discuss the construction of the conserved charges for classical integrable models taking as example the harmonic oscillator. The construction of these charges for 2D integrable field theories is also discussed using a Lax connection and the Sine-Gordon model as example. On the quantum side, the XXZ spin chain is used to explain the systematic construction of the conserved charges starting from a quantum R-matrix, solution of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation. The diagonalization of these charges is performed using the algebraic Bethe ansatz. At the end, the interpretation of the R-matrix as an S-matrix in a scattering process is also presented. These notes were written for the lectures delivered at the school "Integrability, Dualities and Deformations", that ran from 23 to 27 August 2021 in Santiago de Compostela and virtually.

Abstract:This script is based on the notes the author prepared to give a set of six lectures at the Les Houches School "Integrability in Atomic and Condensed Matter Physics" in the summer of 2018. The school had its focus on the application of integrability based methods to problems in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. The lectures were meant to complement this subject with background material on the equilibrium statistical mechanics of quantum spin chains from a vertex model perspective. The author was asked to provide a minimal introduction to quantum spin systems including notions like the reduced density matrix and correlation functions of local observables. He was further asked to explain the graphical language of vertex models and to introduce the concepts of the Trotter decomposition and the quantum transfer matrix. This was basically the contents of the first four lectures presented at the school. In the remaining two lectures these notions were filled with life by deriving an integral representation of the free energy per lattice site for the Heisenberg-Ising chain (alias XXZ model) using techniques based on non-linear integral equations.

Abstract:Four lectures given at Nankai Institute of Mathematics, Tianjin, China, 5--13 April 1991 present an elementary introduction into the quantum integrable models aimed for mathematical physicists and mathematicians. The stress is made on the algebraic aspects of the theory and the problem of determining the spectrum of quantum integrals of motion. The XXX magnetic chain is used as the basic example. Two lectures are devoted to a detailed exposition of the Functional Bethe Ansatz --- a new technique alternative to the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz --- and its relation to the separation of variable method. A possibility to extend FBA to the $SL(3)$ is discussed.

Abstract:Lecture notes for the Brazilian School on Statistical Mechanics, Natal, Brazil, July 2011. The five lectures introduce to the description of entanglement in many-particle systems and review the ground-state entanglement features of standard solvable lattice models. This is done using a thermodynamic formulation in which the eigenvalue spectrum of a certain Hamiltonian determines the entanglement properties. The methods to obtain it are discussed and results, both analytical and numerical, for various cases including time evolution are presented.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to the construction of new integrable quantum mechanical models based on certain subalgebras of the half loop algebra of gl(N). Various results about these subalgebras are proven by presenting them in the notation of the St Petersburg school. These results are then used to demonstrate the integrability, and find the symmetries, of two types of physical system: twisted Gaudin magnets, and Calogero-type models of particles on several half-lines meeting at a point.

Abstract:These lecture notes concern the semi-holomorphic 4d Chern-Simons theory and its applications to classical integrable field theories in 2d and in particular integrable sigma-models. After introducing the main properties of the Chern-Simons theory in 3d, we will define its 4d analogue and explain how it is naturally related to the Lax formalism of integrable 2d theories. Moreover, we will explain how varying the boundary conditions imposed on this 4d theory allows to recover various occurences of integrable sigma-models through this construction, in particular illustrating this on two simple examples: the Principal Chiral Model and its Yang-Baxter deformation. Abstract:The lecture notes cover the emergence of generalized hydrodynamics for the classical and quantum Toda chain, the classical Calogero fluid, the Ablowitz-Ladik discretization of the non-linear Schroedinger equation, and the Lieb-Liniger delta-Bose gas. Such diverse models have structurally identical hydrodynamic equations. Added is a comparison with conventional soliton gases.

Dualities and Discretizations of Integrable Quantum Field Theories from 4d Chern-Simons Theory

Abstract:We elucidate the relationship between 2d integrable field theories and 2d integrable lattice models, in the framework of the 4d Chern-Simons theory. The 2d integrable field theory is realized by coupling the 4d theory to multiple 2d surface order defects, each of which is then discretized into 1d defects. We find that the resulting defects can be dualized into Wilson lines, so that the lattice of discretized defects realizes integrable lattice models. Our discretization procedure works systematically for a broad class of integrable models (including trigonometric and elliptic models), and uncovers a rich web of new dualities among integrable field theories. We also study the anomaly-inflow mechanism for the integrable models, which is required for the quantum integrability of field theories. By analyzing the anomalies of chiral defects, we derive a new set of bosonization dualities between generalizations of massless Thirring models and coupled Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) models. We study an embedding of our setup into string theory, where the thermodynamic limit of the lattice models is realized by polarizations of D-branes.

Exactly Solvable and Integrable Systems

Abstract:A class of integrable 2-dim classical systems with integrals of motion of fourth order in momenta is obtained from the quantum analogues with the help of deformed SUSY algebra. With similar technique a new class of potentials connected with Lax method is found which provides the integrability of corresponding 2-dim hamiltonian systems. In addition, some integrable 2-dim systems with potentials expressed in elliptic functions are explored.

Elliptic Integrable Models and Their Spectra from Superconformal Indices

Abstract:In this contribution we summarize our recent progress in understanding the relation between ${\cal N} = 1$ superconformal indices and relativistic elliptic integrable models. We start briefly reviewing the emergence of such models in computations of the index in presence of surface defect. Next we give an example of such relation considering $4d$ theories obtained in the compactificaiton of $6d$ $(D_{N+3},D_{N+3})$ minimal conformal matter theories. In this case we obtain van Diejen model as well as its higher rank generalizations on $A_N$ and $C_2$ root systems. Finally we review a novel algorithm for computation of the ground states of elliptic integrable systems from superconformal indices that was recently proposed by us.

Lectures on classical Affine Gaudin models

Abstract:These lecture notes present an introduction to classical Affine Gaudin models, which provide a general framework for the systematic construction and study of a large class of integrable two-dimensional field theories. A key role is played by Kac-Moody currents, which are fields satisfying a particular Poisson bracket. After reviewing this notion, we discuss in detail the construction of Affine Gaudin models in the language of Hamiltonian field theories. Special emphasis is placed on their symmetries and conserved quantities, including the construction of infinite families of local and non-local Poisson-commuting charges in terms of Kac-Moody currents. Moreover, we study explicit examples of affine Gaudin models, making the link with the realm of integrable sigma-models. Finally, we mention briefly various perspectives concerning these theories, including the question of their quantisation. Minimal prerequisites on classical Hamiltonian field theories and integrability are required to follow the presentation and a brief reminder of these notions is given at the beginning of the notes. Moreover, various exercises are included throughout the document. These notes were prepared for the Young Researchers Integrability School and Workshop held in Durham from 17 to 21 July 2023.

Abstract:During the last few years many dynamical systems have been identified, that are completely integrable or even such to allow an explicit solution of the equations of motion. Some of these systems have the form of classical one-dimensional many-body problems with pair interactions; others are more general. All of them are related to Lie algebras, and in all known cases the property of integrability results from the presence of higher (hidden) symmetries. This review presents from a general and universal viewpoint the results obtained in this field during the last few years. Besides it contains some new results both of physical and mathematical interest.The main focus is on the one-dimensional models of n particles interacting pairwise via potentials V(q) = g2ν(q) of the following 5 types: νI(q)=q−2, νII(q)=a−2sinh2(aq), νIII(q)=a2/sin2(aq), νIV=a2P(aq), , νV(q)=q−2+ω2q2. Here P(q) is the Weierstrass function, so that the first 3 cases are merely subcases of the fourth. The system characterized by the Toda nearest-neighbor potential, gj2exp[-a(qj−qj+1)], is moreover considered. Various generalizations of these models, naturally suggested by their association with Lie algebras, are also treated.
