Abstract:The dependence of the average number of partons per clan on virtuality and rapidity variables is analytically predicted in the framework of the Generalized Simplified Parton Shower model, based on the idea that clans are genuine elementary subprocesses. The results obtained are found to be qualitatively consistent with experimental trends. This study extends previous results on the behavior of the average number of clans in virtuality and rapidity and shows how important physical quantities can be calculated analytically in a model based on essentials of QCD allowing local violations of the energy-momentum conservation law, still requiring its global validity.

On Statistical Mechanics Developments of Clan Concept in Multiparticle Production

Abstract:Clan concept has been introduced in multiparticle dynamics in order to interpret the wide occurrence of negative binomial (NB) regularity in n-charged particle multiplicity distributions (MDs) in various high energy collisions. The centrality of clan concept led to the attempt to justify its occurrence within a statistical model of clan formation and evolution. In this framework all thermodynamical potentials have been explicitly calculated in terms of NB parameters. Interestingly it was found that NB parameter k corresponds to the one particle canonical partition function. The goal of this paper is to explore a possible temperature and volume dependence of parameter k in various classes of events in high energy hadron-hadron collisions. It is shown that the existence of a phase transition at parton level from the ideal clan gas associated to the semihard component with k>1 to the ideal clan gas of the hard component with k<1 implies a discontinuity in the average number of particles at hadron level.

Abstract:The pseudorapidity distribution of charged particles produced in pp collisions at 400 GeV/c was measured by using LEBC films. The two-particle pseudorapidity correlations at fixed multiplicity were studied. The experimental data were fitted with cluster model. It was found that the average cluster multiplicities as well as the cluster decay widths vary slightly with charged multiplicity.

Abstract:The article focuses on study of clan model parameters and their target dependence in light of void probability scaling for heavy (Ag and Br) and light (C, N and O) groups of targets present in nuclear emulsion detector using 84 Kr 36 at around 1 A GeV. The variation of scaled rapidity gap (rap gap) probability with single moment combination has been studied. We found that experimental points are lying approximately on the negative binomial distribution (NBD) curve, indicating a scaling behavior. The average clan multiplicities for interactions, increases with the pseudo-rapidity interval was also observed. The values of average multiplicity for AgBr targets are larger than those for CNO target and also average number of particles per clan increases with increase in pseudo-rapidity interval. We further observed that for a particular target, average number of particles per clan increases with an increase in the size of projectile nucleus.

Abstract:Scenarios for particle production in the GeV and TeV regions are reviewed. The expected increase with c.m. energy of the average number of clans for the soft component and the decrease for the semihard one indicate possible classical and quantum behaviour of gluons, respectively. Clan thermodynamics, discussed in the paper, appears as the natural framework to deal with such phenomena.

Abstract:This thesis is concerned with the theory and the phenomenology of rapidity gap processes. We perform perturbative calculations of energy flow observables in jet-gap-jet processes, which consist of resummed primary emission calculations specific to the soft gluon geometry at HERA and an estimate of non-global (secondary emission) effects in clustered energy flow observables. The resulting predictions agree well with H1 data. We also study hard diffraction and use a factorised model, with a Monte Carlo event generator, to make detailed predictions for gap-jet-gap events at the Tevatron. We find that we can describe the data in a natural way by using HERA parton densities and a gap surivial factor consistent with theoretical estimates.

Abstract:We use the Kovchegov-Levin equation to resum contributions of large invariant mass diffractive final states to diffractive structure functions in the dipole picture of deep inelastic scattering. For protons we use a (modified) McLerran-Venugopalan model as the initial condition for the evolution, with free parameters obtained from fits to the HERA inclusive data. We obtain an adequate agreement to the HERA diffractive data in the moderately high-mass regimes when the proton density profile is fitted to the diffractive structure function data in the low-mass region. The HERA data is found to prefer a proton shape that is steeper than a Gaussian. The initial conditions are generalized to the nuclear case using the optical Glauber model. Strong nuclear modification effects are predicted in diffractive scattering off a nuclear target in kinematics accessible at the future Electron-Ion collider. In particular, the Kovchegov-Levin evolution has a strong effect on the Q 2 -dependence of the diffractive cross section.

Abstract:We calculate the probability for rapidity gaps in the parton cascade for different approximations within the perturbative QCD and compare the results with recent measurements. The aim is to find out whether the dual connection between the parton and hadron final states -- observed so far in various inclusive measurements -- holds as well for the extreme kinematic configurations with colour sources separated by large rapidity gaps. A description of the data is possible indeed choosing the parameters of the cascade in the range suggested by recent analyses of the energy spectra (the $k_\perp$ cutoff $Q_0~\gsim$ QCD scale $\Lambda\sim 250$ MeV).

Abstract:The requirement of a large pseudo-rapidity gap to select diffractive DIS events at HERA restricts the kinematically accessible region of phase space for a significant range of Q2, β and xp. Consequences of this include a breakdown of xp-factorization in large rapidity gap diffractive samples and an enhancement in the relative contribution of quark-antiquark-gluon processes over dijet processes in the diffractive DIS sample.

Abstract:Continuing previous work, forward-backward multiplicity correlations are studied in asymmetric collisions in the framework of the weighted superposition mechanism of different classes of events. New parameters for the asymmetric clan distribution and for the particle leakage from clans in one hemisphere to the opposite one are introduced to effectively classify different classes of collisions. This tool should be used to explore forward-backward multiplicity correlations in AB and pA collisions in present and future experiments at RHIC and LHC.

Abstract:We discuss an application of dynamical multi-parton interaction model, tuned to measurements of underlying event topology, for a description of destroying rapidity gaps in the jet-gap-jet processes at the LHC. We concentrate on the dynamical origin of the mechanism of destroying the rapidity gap. The cross section for jet-gap-jet is calculated within LL BFKL approximation. We discuss the topology of final states without and with the MPI effects. We discuss some examples of selected kinematical situations (fixed jet rapidities and transverse momenta) as distributions averaged over the dynamics of the jet-gap-jet scattering. The color-singlet ladder exchange amplitude for the partonic subprocess is implemented into the \textsc{Pythia 8} generator, which is then used for hadronisation and for the simulation of the MPI effects. Several differential distributions are shown and discussed. We present the ratio of cross section calculated with and without MPI effects as a function of rapidity gap in between the jets.

Abstract:The pattern of angular correlations of hadrons with a (semi-)hard trigger hadron in heavy-ion collisions has attracted considerable interest. In particular, unexpected large angle structures on the away side (opposite to the trigger) have been found. Several explanations have been brought forward, among them Mach shockwaves and Cherenkov radiation. Most of these scenarios are characterized by radial symmetry around the parton axis, thus angular correlations also determine the rapidity dependence of the correlation. If the observed correlations are remnants of an away side parton after interaction with the medium created in the collision, pQCD allows to calculate the distribution $P(y)$ of the away side partons in rapidity. The measured correlation then arises as a folding of $P(y)$ and the rapidity structure of the correlation taking into account the detector acceptance. This places non-trivial and rather stringent constraints on the underlying scenario. We investigate these dependences and demonstrate that Mach shockwaves survive this folding procedure well whereas Cherenkov radiation scenarios face new challenges.

Abstract:The central-arbitrary bin and forward-backward bin multiplicity correlation patterns for Au+Au collisions at √(s_NN)= 7.7-62.4 GeV are investigated within a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model. An interesting observation is that for √(s_NN) <19.6 GeV Au+Au collisions, these two correlation patterns both have an increase with the pseudorapidity gap, while for √(s_NN) >19.6 GeV Au+Au collisions, they decrease. We mainly discuss the influence of different evolution stages of collision system on the central-arbitrary bin correlations, such as the initial conditions, partonic scatterings, hadronization scheme and hadronic scatterings. Our results show that the central-arbitrary bin multiplicity correlations have different responses to partonic phase and hadronic phase, which can be suggested as a good probe to explore the dynamical evolution mechanism of the hot dense matter in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract:The rapidity distributions of shower particles in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions are investigated and compared with that in hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus collisions. The remarkable difference in the correlation between rapidity distribution and multiplicity in the three cases, as well as the scaling of rapidity distribution in the target region and the nonscaling of the same distribution in the central region, are explained.

Abstract:The exchange of electroweak gauginos in the $t-$ or $u-$channel allows squark pair production at hadron colliders without color exchange between the squarks. This can give rise to events where little or no energy is deposited in the detector between the squark decay products. We discuss the potential for detection of such rapidity gap events at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We present an analysis with full event simulation using PYTHIA as well as Herwig++, but without detector simulation. We analyze the transverse energy deposited between the jets from squark decay, as well as the probability of finding a third jet in between the two hardest jets. For the mSUGRA benchmark point SPS1a we find statistically significant evidence for a color singlet exchange contribution.

Abstract:Employing the AMPT transport model, we investigate the response of the rapidity-even dipolar flow ($\mathrm{v^{even}_{1}}$) and its associated Global Momentum Conservation (GMC) parameter $\mathrm{K}$ to structural disparities within $^{96}$Ru and $^{96}$Zr nuclei. We analyze $\rm Ru+Ru$ and $\rm Zr+Zr$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{\textit{s}_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. Our analysis demonstrates that the eccentricity $\varepsilon_1$, $\mathrm{v^{even}_{1}}$ and $\mathrm{K}$ exhibit subtle yet discernible sensitivity to the input nuclear structure distinctions between $^{96}$Ru and $^{96}$Zr isobars. This observation suggests that measuring $v^{\rm even}_{1}$ and the GMC parameter in these isobaric collisions could serve as a means to fine-tune the comprehension of their nuclear structure disparities and offer insights to enhance the initial condition assumptions of theoretical models.
