Abstract:• Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) is a subset of arthritis that occurs following trauma, most notably fractures with intra-articular involvement. • Roughly 12% of patients with osteoarthritis can attribute their disease to a post-traumatic state. • The burden of PTOA is significant and impacts patients, the workforce, and the health care system. • Salvage surgical operations such as arthroplasty or osteotomy performed in the setting of PTOA do comparatively worse than their primary counterparts. • Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) is a subset of arthritis that occurs following trauma, most notably fractures with intra-articular involvement.
