Abstract:We outline a proof of a remarkable conjecture of Labastida-Mari{\~n}o-Ooguri-Vafa about certain new algebraic structures of quantum link invariants and the integrality of infinite family of new topological invariants. Our method is based on the cut-and-join analysis and a special rational ring characterizing the structure of the Chern-Simons partition function.

Abstract:Let m be the least cardinal k such that MA(k) fails. The only known model for "m is singular" was constructed by Kunen. In Kunen's model cof(m)=omega_1. It is unknown whether "omega_1 < cof(m) < m" is consistent. The purpose of this paper is to present a proof of Kunen's result and to identify the difficulties of generalizing this result to an arbitrary uncountable cofinality.

Abstract:According to a theorem due to Kenneth Kunen, under ZFC, there is no ordinal $\lambda$ and non-trivial elementary embedding $j:V_{\lambda+2}\to V_{\lambda+2}$. His proof relied on the Axiom of Choice (AC), and no proof from ZF alone has been discovered. $I_{0,\lambda}$ is the assertion, introduced by W. Hugh Woodin, that $\lambda$ is an ordinal and there is an elementary embedding $j:L(V_{\lambda+1})\to L(V_{\lambda+1})$ with critical point ${<\lambda}$. And $I_0$ asserts that $I_{0,\lambda}$ holds for some $\lambda$. The axiom $I_0$ is one of the strongest large cardinals not known to be inconsistent with AC. It is usually studied assuming ZFC in the full universe $V$ (in which case $\lambda$ must be a limit ordinal), but we assume only ZF. We prove, assuming ZF + $I_{0,\lambda}$ + "$\lambda$ is an even ordinal", that there is a proper class transitive inner model $M$ containing $V_{\lambda+1}$ and satisfying ZF + $I_{0,\lambda}$ + "there is an elementary embedding $k:V_{\lambda+2}\to V_{\lambda+2}$"; in fact we will have $k\subseteq j$, where $j$ witnesses $I_{0,\lambda}$ in $M$. This result was first proved by the author under the added assumption that $V_{\lambda+1}^\#$ exists; Gabe Goldberg noticed that this extra assumption was unnecessary. If also $\lambda$ is a limit ordinal and $\lambda$-DC holds in $V$, then the model $M$ will also satisfy $\lambda$-DC. We show that ZFC + "$\lambda$ is even" + $I_{0,\lambda}$ implies $A^\#$ exists for every $A\in V_{\lambda+1}$, but if consistent, this theory does not imply $V_{\lambda+1}^\#$ exists.

Abstract:In 2010, Invent. Math., Ershov and Jaikin-Zapirain proved Kazhdan's property (T) for elementary groups. This expository article focuses on presenting an alternative simpler proof of that. Unlike the original one, our proof supplies no estimate of Kazhdan constants. It may be regarded as a specific example of the results in the paper "Upgrading fixed points without bounded generation" (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1505.06728" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1505.06728">arXiv:1505.06728</a>, forthcoming version) by the author.

Abstract:In this article, we studied the inverse Erdős-Heilbronn problem with the restricted sumset from two components $A$ and $B$ that are not necessarily the same. We give a completely elementary proof for the problem in $\mathbb{Z}$ and some partial results that contributes to the elementary proof of the problem in $\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z}$, avoiding the usage of the powerful polynomial method and the Combinatorial Nullstellensatz.

Abstract:We give a noncomputational, elementary group-theoretic proof of the Zolotareff-Frobenius Theorem. We use no results from the theory of quadratic residues. Let A and k be coprime positive integers with k odd and greater than 1. By the symbol Z(h,k) we mean the sign of the permutation m induced on the residue classes modulo k obtained by multiplication by A. Theorem (Zolotareff-Frobenius). Zih,k) = (A/A:), the usual Jacobi symbol. Zolotareff [5] first proved this theorem for prime k. Frobenius, cf. [1], then found the general result and Lerch [2], Riesz [4] and Meyer [3] gave subsequent proofs. All these proofs of the general result are, to varying degrees, computational and it is our aim to give a noncomputational, elementary group-theoretic proof in the spirit of Zolotareff s original work. In the following, Sym (X) denotes the symmetric group on the finite set X. We also write sgn tr = 1 or 1 according as tr is an even or odd permutation of X, so that sgn: Sym(X) —» {1,-1} is the usual group homomorphism. Abstract:In this paper, we provide a positive answer to a question by Matthews whether $\mathsf{ZF}^-$ is consistent with a non-trivial cofinal Reinhardt elementary embedding $j\colon V\to V$. The consistency follows from $\mathsf{ZFC} + I_0$, and more precisely, Schultzenberg's model of $\mathsf{ZF}$ with an elementary embedding $k\colon V_{\lambda+2}\to V_{\lambda+2}$.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{K}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>5$. We show the existence of minimal models for pseudo-effective NQC klt generalized pairs in dimension three over $\mathbb{K}$. As a consequence, we prove the termination of flips for pseudo-effective threefold NQC klt generalized pairs over $\mathbb{K}$. This provides a new proof on the termination of flips for pseudo-effective pairs over $\mathbb{K}$ without using the non-vanishing theorems. A key ingredient of our proof is the ACC for lc thresholds in dimension $\leq 3$ and the global ACC in dimension $\leq 2$ for generalized pairs over $\mathbb{K}$.

Abstract:In this paper we will present a proof of the consistency of Quine's set theory "New Foundations" (hereinafter NF), so-called after the title of the 1937 paper in which it was introduced. This version takes the approach of building a model of tangled type theory rather than a model of the usual set theory without choice with a tangled web of cardinals; further, details of the construction are refined due to interaction with the now complete verification in Lean by the second author.

Abstract:Given a sound first-order p-time theory $T$ capable of formalizing syntax of first-order logic we define a p-time function $g_T$ that stretches all inputs by one bit and we use its properties to show that $T$ must be incomplete. We leave it as an open problem whether for some $T$ the range of $g_T$ intersects all infinite NP sets (i.e. whether it is a proof complexity generator hard for all proof systems). A propositional version of the construction shows that at least one of the following three statements is true: - there is no p-optimal propositional proof system (this is equivalent to the non-existence of a time-optimal propositional proof search algorithm), - $E \not\subseteq P/poly$, - there exists function $h$ that stretches all inputs by one bit, is computable in sub-exponential time and its range $Rng(h)$ intersects all infinite NP sets.
