Abstract:This investigation apprised the electrical discharge machining of a MoSi 2 –SiC intermetallic ceramic composite. Key sparking attributes encompassed current, pulse-on and off durations ( T on / T off ), dielectric pressure, voltage, and speed. Various performance aspects, such as material removal rate, electrode wear rate, surface roughness, radial overcut, taper angle, circularity, cylindricality, perpendicularity, and run-out, were meticulously evaluated. The initial data underwent thorough analysis through multiple regression and main effects assessment. Two distinct methodologies were employed to achieve optimal performance outcomes. Firstly, all responses were amalgamated into a singular objective, subsequently fine-tuned via an advanced Jaya algorithm, with the resultant values duly recorded. The ramifications of employing a multi-objective Jaya strategy to maximize these triadic performance characteristics were presented. Additional experimental trials and validation solidified the acquired optimal input parameters, culminating in the pinnacle Grey grade of 0.8412, achieved under the settings of a current of 3 A, pulse-on duration of 5 μs, pulse-off duration of 8 μs, dielectric pressure at 14 kg/cm 2 , voltage of 3 V, and a speed of 2 m/s. The ensuing surface distortions and nuanced microscopic structural modifications induced by the machining process were meticulously documented and subjected to in-depth scrutiny.
