Abstract:ABSTRACTCADAL has been a large-scale non-profit digital library. Besides various search facilities in the CADAL portal, we designed and implemented the iCADAL system for providing the user-oriented micro-content services on one million books in CADAL. Users of iCADAL can receive the stream of short messages of lending, annotation and the other reading activities shared by their followees in a twitter-like way, which combines socialization with personalization. Our implementation makes extensive use of open source softwares, i.e. Pylons, Cassandra, in order to support the high-traffic online micro-content services.

Abstract:The articles in this special section focus on the topic of information centric networking (ICN), an approach that shifts the Internet infrastructure from a host-centric paradigm, based on perpetual connectivity and the end-to-end principle, to a new paradigm where named data becomes independent from location, application, storage, and means of transportation, enabling in-network storage and replication. The expected benefits include improved effi ciency, better scalability with respect to information/bandwidth demand, and better robustness in challenging communication scenarios. As the most promising clean-slate approach for future Internet, ICN has attracted much attention in the past few years, and created a trajectory that is to replace the current IP-based Internet. There have been many prototypes of ICN, but more research is still ongoing, which includes naming, forwarding/routing, and caching policy, deployment strategy, security policy, and so on.

Abstract:Network requirements are evolved from data communications between two hosts to accessing a large amount of information through networks. The current Internet uses address-centric network communication model,which is suitable for the communications between hosts but not efficient in the communications between hosts and networks. Given this fact, information-centric networking(ICN) becomes the hot spot to meet the new requirements.Firstly, this paper presents the basic idea of ICN, analyzes the features of ICN, and classifies different ICN approaches,including the following aspects: naming, resolving, routing and caching. Secondly, this paper summarizes the five key technologies in ICN which are naming, resolving, routing, distribution and caching, and then analyzes and evaluates the existing ICN schemes. Finally, several key issues in ICN are discussed and future directions are pointed out.

Abstract:The enormous number of studies performed at the Nuclear Medicine Department of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) generates a huge amount PET/CT images daily. A DICOM workstation had been used as "mini-PACS" to route all studies, which is historically proven to be slow due to various reasons. However, replacing the workstation with a commercial PACS server is not only cost inefficient; and more often, the PACS vendors are reluctant to take responsibility for the final integration of these components. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an alternative imaging archiving and communication system called Enterprise Imaging Repository (EIR). EIR consists of two distinguished components: an image processing daemon and a user friendly web interface. EIR not only reduces the overall waiting time of transferring a study from the modalities to radiologists' workstations, but also provides a more preferable presentation.

Abstract:For more than a decade, the inherent drawbacks of current Internet have been calling for its revolutionary designs. The end-to-end model, which was designed for special data transmission in the early age of Internet, is causing troubles everywhere in nowadays content based web services. Consequently, Information Centric Network (ICN) is proposed to solve these problems. As the most permanent clean-slate approach for next generation Internet, ICN has attracted much attention from network researchers in the passed few years. This survey focuses on the current progress of the research work in ICN. It investigates various key aspects such as naming and routing schemes, in-network caching policies, etc., and highlights the benefit of implementing ICN, open research issues and new interests in this domain.
Lattice constant variation and complex formation in zincblende Gallium Manganese Arsenide

Abstract:We perform high resolution X-ray diffraction on GaMnAs mixed crystals as well as on GaMnAs/GaAs and GaAs/MnAs superlattices for samples grown by low temperature molecular beam epitaxy under different growth conditions. Although all samples are of high crystalline quality and show narrow rocking curve widths and pronounced finite thickness fringes, the lattice constant variation with increasing manganese concentration depends strongly on the growth conditions: For samples grown at substrate temperatures of 220 and 270 degrees C the extrapolated relaxed lattice constant of Zincblende MnAs is 0.590 nm and 0.598 nm respectively. This is in contrast to low temperature GaAs, for which the lattice constant decreases with increasing substrate temperature.

Abstract:This research aims to investigate the effects of information cocooning on group mood changes caused by information spreading. The simulation of the realistic network evolution process is realized at the structural level by building a network evolution model based on individual viewpoints. Abstracting the accuracy of the real intelligent recommendation process by setting RA (Recommended Accuracy). By analyzing the information cocoon effect due to the recommendation in the comment section, we provide the structural basis of spreading for the dynamics model. A dynamics model of emotion spreading is developed to explore the trend of individual emotion spreading and to quantify the change of group emotion. Through experiments and analysis, this paper concludes that the information cocoon has a positive effect on the stability of group emotions, and that the H-CAC (Hidden Comment Area Cocoon) structure exists widely in real online social networks, and can produce a protective "harbor" effect in the competition of public opinion and cognitive games. The validity of the model is verified by comparison with real cases and generalization ability experiments. This work provides a multi-perspective analysis and visualization, providing more quantitative results. The research is expected to provide new perspectives and tools for understanding the reality of information cocooning and expanding the scenarios of its use.

A Survey on Information-centric Networking: Rationales, Designs and Debates

Abstract:The basic function of the Internet is to delivery data（what） to serve the needs of all applications. IP names the attachment points（where） to facilitate ubiquitous interconnectivity as the current way to deliver data. The fundamental mismatch between data delivery and naming attachment points leads to a lot of challenges, e.g., mapping from data name to IP address, handling dynamics of underlying topology, scaling up the data distribution, and securing communication, etc. Informationcentric networking（ICN） is proposed to shift the focus of communication paradigm from where to what, by making the named data the first-class citizen in the network, The basic consensus of ICN is to name the data independent from its container（space dimension） and session（time dimension）, which breaks the limitation of point-to-point IP semantic. It scales up data distribution by utilizing available resources, and facilitates communication to fit diverse connectivity and heterogeneous networks. However, there are only a few consensuses on the detailed design of ICN, and quite a few different ICN architectures are proposed. This paper reveals the rationales of ICN from the perspective of the Internet evolution, surveys different design choices, and discusses on two debatable topics in ICN, i.e.,self-certifying versus hierarchical names, and edge versus pervasive caching. We hope this survey helps clarify some mis-understandings on ICN and achieve more consensuses.
