Abstract:We study the existence of ground and bound state solutions for a system of coupled Schr\"odinger equations with linear and nonlinear couplings in $\mathbb{R}^N$. By studying the limit system and using concentration compactness arguments, we prove the existence of ground and bound state solutions under suitable assumptions. Our results are new even for the limit system.

Abstract:The paper deals with the existence of non-radial solutions for an $N$-coupled nonlinear elliptic system. In the repulsive regime with some structure conditions on the coupling and for each symmetric subspace of rotation symmetry, we prove the existence of an infinite sequence of non-radial positive solutions and an infinite sequence of non-radial nodal solutions.

Abstract:We study a coupled Schrödinger system with general nonlinearities. By using variational methods, we prove the existence and asymptotic behaviour of ground state solution for the system with periodic couplings. Moreover, we prove the existence and nonexistence of ground state solution for the system with non-periodic couplings via Nehari manifold method. Especially, the ground state solution with both nontrivial components is obtained, and the sign of nontrivial components is considered.

Abstract:In this paper, the existence and stability results for ground state solutions of an m-coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system i ∂ ∂t uj + ∂2 ∂x2 uj + m ∑ i=1 bij |ui||uj |uj = 0, are established, where 2 ≤ m, 2 ≤ p < 3 and uj are complex-valued functions of (x, t) ∈ R2, j = 1, · · · ,m and bij are positive constants satisfying bij = bji. In contrast with other methods used before to establish existence and stability of solitary wave solutions where the constraints of the variational minimization problem are related to one another, our approach here characterizes ground state solutions as minimizers of an energy functional subject to independent constraints. The set of minimizers is shown to be orbitally stable and further information about the structure of the set is given in certain cases.

Ground States of Fermionic Nonlinear Schrödinger Systems with Coulomb Potential I: The $L^2$-Subcritical Case

Abstract:We consider ground states of the $N$ coupled fermionic nonlinear Schrödinger systems with the Coulomb potential $V(x)$ in the $L^2$-subcritical case. By studying the associated constraint variational problem, we prove the existence of ground states for the system with any parameter $\alpha>0$, which represents the attractive strength of the non-relativistic quantum particles. The limiting behavior of ground states for the system is also analyzed as $\alpha\to\infty$, where the mass concentrates at one of the singular points for the Coulomb potential $V(x)$.

Abstract:In this paper we study the following nonlinear Schrodinger equation {-Delta u+a(x)u=f(x,u), u epsilon H-1(R-N), where a is periodic with respect to x and f(x,u) is superlinear in u. Suppose that 0 lies in a gap of the spectrum sigma(-Delta+a). Without periodic assumption on f, we prove the existence of ground state solution for the system. Moreover, we obtain some sufficient conditions for the nonexistence of ground state solution.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following k-coupled nonlinear Schrodinger systems in the critical case: {-Delta u(i) +lambda(i)u(i) = mu(i)u(i)(3) + Sigma(j=1,)j(not equal i)(k) beta(ij)u(i)u(j)(2) in Omega, u(i) >= 0 in Omega, u(i)(x) = 0 on partial derivative Omega, i = 1, 2, ..., k. Here, Omega subset of R-4 is a smooth bounded domain, -lambda(1)(Omega) < lambda(i) < 0, mu(i) > 0 and beta(ij) = beta(ji) not equal 0 for every i not equal j, where lambda(1)(Omega) is the first eigenvalue of -Delta with the Dirichlet boundary condition. Note that the nonlinearity and the coupling terms are both critical in dimension 4 (i.e. 2N/(N - 2) = 4 when N = 4). Wecall the couplings beta(ij) are attractive if beta(ij) > 0, while repulsive stands for beta(ij) < 0. Abstract:We show the existence and stability of ground state solutions (g.s.s.) for $L^2$-critical magnetic nonlinear Schrödinger equations (mNLS) for a class of unbounded electromagnetic potentials. We then give non-existence result by constructing a sequence of vortex type functions in the setting of RNLS with an anisotropic harmonic potential. These generalize the corresponding results in [3] and [20]. The case of an isotropic harmonic potential for rotational NLS has been recently addressed in [10]. Numerical results on the ground state profile near the threshold are also included.

Abstract:We consider the following two coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system: <math>−Δu+u=f1(x,u)+λ(x)v,x∈ℝ2,−Δv+v=f2(x,v)+λ(x)u,x∈ℝ2,</math>where the coupling parameter satisfies 0 < λ(x) ≤ λ0 < 1 and the reactions f1, f2 have critical exponential growth in the sense of Trudinger–Moser inequality. Using non‐Nehari manifold method together with the Lions's concentration compactness and the Trudinger‐Moser inequality, we show that the above system has a Nehari‐type ground state solution and a nontrivial solution. Our results improve and extend the previous results.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the stabilization of non-fundamental unstable stationary solutions of the cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation. Specifically we study the stabilization of radially symmetric solutions with nodes and asymmetric complex stationary solutions. For the first ones we find partial stabilization similar to that recently found for vortex solutions while for the later ones stabilization does not seem possible.

Abstract:We study the following doubly critical Schrödinger system $$-\Delta u -\frac{\la_1}{|x|^2}u=u^{2^\ast-1}+ \nu \al u^{\al-1}v^\bb, \quad x\in \RN, -\Delta v -\frac{\la_2}{|x|^2}v=v^{2^\ast-1} + \nu \bb u^{\al}v^{\bb-1}, \quad x\in \RN, u, v\in D^{1, 2}(\RN),\quad u, v>0 in $\RN\setminus{0}$},$$ where $N\ge 3$, $\la_1, \la_2\in (0, \frac{(N-2)^2}{4})$, $2^\ast=\frac{2N}{N-2}$ and $\al>1, \bb>1$ satisfying $\al+\bb=2^\ast$. This problem is related to coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with critical exponent for Bose-Einstein condensate. For different ranges of $N$, $\al$, $\bb$ and $\nu>0$, we obtain positive ground state solutions via some quite different methods, which are all radially symmetric. It turns out that the least energy level depends heavily on the relations among $\al, \bb$ and 2. Besides, for sufficiently small $\nu>0$, positive solutions are also obtained via a variational perturbation approach. Note that the Palais-Smale condition can not hold for any positive energy level, which makes the study via variational methods rather complicated.

Abstract:We study the existence and the properties of ground states at fixed mass for a focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation in dimension two with a point interaction, an attractive Coulomb potential and a nonlinearity of power type. We prove that for any negative value of the Coulomb charge, for any positive value of the mass and for any L$^2$-subcritical power nonlinearity, such ground states exist and exhibit a logarithmic singularity where the interaction is placed. Moreover, up to multiplication by a phase factor, they are positive, radially symmetric and decreasing. An analogous result is obtained also for minimizers of the action restricted to the Nehari manifold, getting the existence also in the L$^2$-critical and supercritical cases.

Abstract:We study the existence and multiplicity of normalized solutions to the following Schrödinger equations with potentials and non-autonomous nonlinearities: { -Δ u+V(x)u+λ u=f(x,u) in ℝ^N, ∫ _ℝ^N |u(x)|^2dx=a, u∈ H^1(ℝ^N) , . where V(x)≤lim _|x|→∞ V(x):=V_∞∈ (-∞ ,+∞ ] and f ( x , s ) satisfies Berestycki–Lions type conditions with mass sub-critical growth. In the case V_∞=+∞ , we prove that for all a>0 , the equation has a ground state solution, and if additionally f is odd, the equation has infinitely many normalized solutions with increasing energy. While in the case V_∞<+∞ , we prove that there exists a_0≥ 0 such that the ground state energy can be attained when a>a_0 , but not when 0<a<a_0 . To this end, We develop robust arguments to show the conditional strict subadditivity of the ground state energy with respect to a . We also investigate the multiplicity of normalized radial solutions by index theory in this case. These results can be extended to other types of Schrödinger equations.
