By studying the limit system and using concentration compactness arguments, we prove the existence of ground and bound state solutions under suitable assumptions. Abstract:Abstract In this paper we are concerned with the existence, nonexistence and bifurcation of nontrivial solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries type system(NLS-NLS-KdV). First, we find some conditions to guarantee the existence and nonexistence of positive solution of the system. Second, we study the asymptotic behavior of the positive ground state solution. Finally, we use the classical Crandall-Rabinowitz local bifurcation theory to get the nontrivial positive solution. To get these results we encounter some new challenges. By combining the Nehari manifolds constraint method and the delicate energy estimates, we overcome the difficulties and find the two bifurcation branches from one semitrivial solution. This is an new interesting phenomenon but which have not previously been found.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following k-coupled nonlinear Schrodinger systems in the critical case: {-Delta u(i) +lambda(i)u(i) = mu(i)u(i)(3) + Sigma(j=1,)j(not equal i)(k) beta(ij)u(i)u(j)(2) in Omega, u(i) >= 0 in Omega, u(i)(x) = 0 on partial derivative Omega, i = 1, 2, ..., k. Here, Omega subset of R-4 is a smooth bounded domain, -lambda(1)(Omega) < lambda(i) < 0, mu(i) > 0 and beta(ij) = beta(ji) not equal 0 for every i not equal j, where lambda(1)(Omega) is the first eigenvalue of -Delta with the Dirichlet boundary condition. Note that the nonlinearity and the coupling terms are both critical in dimension 4 (i.e. 2N/(N - 2) = 4 when N = 4). Wecall the couplings beta(ij) are attractive if beta(ij) > 0, while repulsive stands for beta(ij) < 0. Under the assumption that all the couplings beta(ij) are purely attractive and large enough, we first show that this critical system has a fully nontrivial ground state solution, that is, a solution <(u)over right arrow> = (u(1), ..., u(k)) has all components nontrivial, under conditions providing additional vertical bar lambda(i) - lambda(i)vertical bar << 1, vertical bar beta(ij) - beta(i)'(j)'vertical bar << 1, while ground state solution may be semitrivial ((u) over right arrow has null components) without the above additional conditions. Whenthe systems admit mixed couplings, i.e. there exist (i, j) and (i', j') such that beta(ij) > 0 and beta(i)'(j)' < 0, we establish the existence of least energy positive solutions. The purpose of this paper is to solve some remaining open questions on Tavares and You (Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations 59:26, 2020).

Abstract:We study a coupled Schrödinger system with general nonlinearities. By using variational methods, we prove the existence and asymptotic behaviour of ground state solution for the system with periodic couplings. Moreover, we prove the existence and nonexistence of ground state solution for the system with non-periodic couplings via Nehari manifold method. Especially, the ground state solution with both nontrivial components is obtained, and the sign of nontrivial components is considered.

Abstract:The paper deals with the existence of non-radial solutions for an $N$-coupled nonlinear elliptic system. In the repulsive regime with some structure conditions on the coupling and for each symmetric subspace of rotation symmetry, we prove the existence of an infinite sequence of non-radial positive solutions and an infinite sequence of non-radial nodal solutions.

Abstract:We consider the following two coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system: <math>−Δu+u=f1(x,u)+λ(x)v,x∈ℝ2,−Δv+v=f2(x,v)+λ(x)u,x∈ℝ2,</math>where the coupling parameter satisfies 0 < λ(x) ≤ λ0 < 1 and the reactions f1, f2 have critical exponential growth in the sense of Trudinger–Moser inequality. Using non‐Nehari manifold method together with the Lions's concentration compactness and the Trudinger‐Moser inequality, we show that the above system has a Nehari‐type ground state solution and a nontrivial solution. Our results improve and extend the previous results.

We give a characterization of the least energy solutions when or is a smooth bounded domain of , if the coupling matrix is positively or negatively definite with and exists and satisfies for . Furthermore, when and , we obtain a nonexistence theorem about the least energy solutions provided attraction and repulsion coexist, i.e. some of are positive but some others are negative.

Abstract:We propose a numerical method for finding solitary wave solutions of generalized Korteweg-de Vries equations by solving the nonlinear eigenvalue problem on an unbounded domain. The artificial boundary conditions are obtained to make the domain finite. We specially discuss the soliton solutions of the K(m,n) equation and KdV–K(m,n) equation. Furthermore for the mixed models of linear and nonlinear dispersion, the collision behaviors of soliton–soliton and soliton–antisoliton are observed.

Abstract:We prove the existence of normalized ground state solutions for the biharmonic Schrödinger equation with combined nonlinearities and show that all ground states correspond to the local minima of the associated energy functional restricted to the appropriate set. Moreover, we prove that the standing waves are strongly unstable by blowup. In particular, our results cover the critical case. Our method is novel and innovative as previous ideas cannot be used in many cases under this study.

Abstract:We study a class of Schrödinger-Kirchhoff system involving critical exponent. We aim to find suitable conditions to assure the existence of a positive ground state solution of Nehari-Pohouzaev type $u_{\varepsilon}$ with exponential decay at infinity for $\varepsilon$ and $ u_{\varepsilon}$ concentrates around a global minimum point of $ V$ as $ \varepsilon\rightarrow0^{+}.$ The nonlinear term includes the nonlinearity $f(u)\sim|u|^{p-1}u$ for the well-studied case $ p\in[3,5)$, and the less-studied case $p\in(2,3)$.

Abstract:We study the following doubly critical Schrödinger system $$-\Delta u -\frac{\la_1}{|x|^2}u=u^{2^\ast-1}+ \nu \al u^{\al-1}v^\bb, \quad x\in \RN, -\Delta v -\frac{\la_2}{|x|^2}v=v^{2^\ast-1} + \nu \bb u^{\al}v^{\bb-1}, \quad x\in \RN, u, v\in D^{1, 2}(\RN),\quad u, v>0 in $\RN\setminus{0}$},$$ where $N\ge 3$, $\la_1, \la_2\in (0, \frac{(N-2)^2}{4})$, $2^\ast=\frac{2N}{N-2}$ and $\al>1, \bb>1$ satisfying $\al+\bb=2^\ast$. This problem is related to coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations with critical exponent for Bose-Einstein condensate. For different ranges of $N$, $\al$, $\bb$ and $\nu>0$, we obtain positive ground state solutions via some quite different methods, which are all radially symmetric. It turns out that the least energy level depends heavily on the relations among $\al, \bb$ and 2. Besides, for sufficiently small $\nu>0$, positive solutions are also obtained via a variational perturbation approach. Note that the Palais-Smale condition can not hold for any positive energy level, which makes the study via variational methods rather complicated.

Abstract:We study the following system of nonlinear Schrödinger equations: {[ -ε ^2Δ u +a(x) u = f(u)+λ v, x∈ℝ ^N,; -ε ^2Δ v +b(x) v =g(v)+λ u, x∈ℝ ^N,; u,v >0 in ℝ ^N, u, v ∈ H^1 (ℝ ^N), ]. where N≥ 3 , ε , λ >0 , and a, b, f, g are continuous functions. Under very general assumptions on both the potentials a, b and the nonlinearities f, g , for small λ >0 and ε >0 , we obtain positive solutions of this coupled system via pure variational methods. The asymptotic behaviors of these solutions are also studied either as ε→ 0 or as λ→ 0 .

Abstract:We obtain the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of positive solutions with prescribed mass for nonlinear Schrödinger equations in bounded domains via a global bifurcation approach. The nonlinearities in this paper can be mass supercritical, critical, subcritical or some mixes of these cases, and the equation can be autonomous or non-autonomous. This generalizes a result in Noris, Tavares and Verzini [\emph{Anal. PDE}, 7 (8) (2014) 1807-1838], where the equation is autonomous with homogeneous nonlinearities. Besides, we have proven some orbital stability or instability results.

On the Korteweg-de Vries limit for the Boussinesq equation

Abstract:The Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation is known as a universal equation describing various long waves in dispersive systems. In this article, we prove that in a certain scaling regime, a large class of rough solutions to the Boussinesq equation are approximated by the sums of two counter-propagating waves solving the KdV equations. It extends the earlier result by \cite{Schneider1998} to slightly more regular than $L^2$-solutions. Our proof is based on robust Fourier analysis methods developed for the low regularity theory of nonlinear dispersive equations.
