In the first part a C-program DIANA (DIagram ANAlyser) for the automation of Feynman diagram evaluations is presented, in the second part various techniques for the evaluation of scalar diagrams are described, based on the Taylor expansion method and large mass expansion.

Non-Planar Two-Loop Amplitudes for Five-Parton Scattering

Abstract:We review the current status of high-multiplicity double-virtual QCD corrections to processes relevant for LHC phenomenology. In particular, we discuss the recent full-color calculation of the five-parton process, whose two-loop amplitudes are required to obtain next-to-next-to-leading order predictions for three-jet production at the LHC. We address various aspects of the computation, including color decomposition, renormalization, partial amplitudes, color identities and the construction of the finite remainder. We review the method of numerical unitarity, which is used to generate finite-field samples of the amplitude. We then focus on the analytic reconstruction of the coefficient functions from these numerical samples via Ansatz techniques. A novel algorithm, based on the correlation of codimension-one residues, helps manage the complexity of the calculation. Little-group rescalings of the gluon amplitude, inspired by supersymmetry Ward identities, facilitate the computation of the quark amplitudes. We conclude with an outlook towards upcoming computations with an increased number of scales, leading to larger Ansätze and more complicated alphabets.

Abstract:With a key improvement, the auxiliary mass flow method is now able to compute Feynman integrals encountered in cutting-edge collider processes. We have successfully applied it to compute some integrals involved in two-loop electroweak corrections to e+e- -> HZ, two-loop QCD corrections to 3j, W=Z=H +2j, tt over bar H and 4j production at hadron colliders, and three-loop QCD corrections to tt over bar production at hadron colliders, all of which are crucial for precision frontier in collider physics in the following decade. Our results are important building blocks and benchmarks for future studies of these processes.
Optimizing the Reduction of One-Loop Amplitudes

Abstract:We present an optimization of the reduction algorithm of one-loop amplitudes in terms of master integrals. It is based on the exploitation of the polynomial structure of the integrand when evaluated at values of the loop-momentum fulfilling multiple cut-conditions, as emerged in the OPP-method. The reconstruction of the polynomials, needed for the complete reduction, is rended very versatile by using a projection-technique based on the Discrete Fourier Transform. The novel implementation is applied in the context of the NLO QCD corrections to u d-bar --> W+ W- W+.

Abstract:Motivated by existing models used for soft body simulation which are rather complex to implement, we present a novel technique which is based on simple laws of physics and gives high quality results in real-time. We base the implementation on simple thermodynamics laws and use the Clausius-Clapeyron state equation for pressure calculation. In addition, this provides us with a pressure force that is accumulated into a force accumulator of a 3D mesh object by using an existing spring-mass engine. Finally after integration of Newtons second law we obtain the behavior of a soft body with fixed or non-fixed air pressure inside of it.

Abstract:Recent progress in the calculation of multi-loop, multi-scale diagrams is reviewed. Expansion techniques combined with new developments in Computer algebra allow to evaluate the R ratio for massive quarks up to order $\alpha_s^2$ and, partly, even $\alpha_s^3$. Similar techniques can be applied to Higgs- or Z-boson decays and mixed QCD and electroweak interactions.

Abstract:We identify novel structure in newly computed multi-loop amplitudes and quantum actions for even-point effective field theories, including both the nonlinear sigma model (NLSM) and double-copy gauge theories such as Born-Infeld and its supersymmetric generalizations. We exploit special properties of all even-point theories towards establishing an efficient unitarity based amplitude construction. In doing so, we find evidence that the leading IR divergence of NLSM amplitudes exponentiates when the target space is 1 ≅ SU(2)/U(1). We then systematically compute the two-loop anomalous behavior of Born-Infeld, and find that the counterterms needed to restore U(1) invariant behavior at loop-level can be constructed via a symmetric-structure double-copy. We also demonstrate that the divergent part of the one-minus (−+++) two-loop anomaly vanishes upon introducing an evanescent operator. In addition to these purely photonic counterterms, we verify through explicit calculation that the anomalous matrix elements that violate U(1) duality invariance can be alternatively cancelled by summing over internal = 4 DBIVA superfields. Finally we find that = 4 Dirac-Born-Infeld-Volkov-Akulov (DBIVA) amplitudes admit double-copy construction through two-loop order by reproducing our unitarity based result with a double copy between color-dual = 4 super-Yang-Mills and our two-loop NLSM amplitudes. This result supports the possibility of color-dual representations for NLSM beyond one-loop. We conclude with an overview of how D -dimensional four-photon counterterms can be constructed in generality with the symmetric-structure double-copy, and outline a convenient way of counting evanescent operators using Hilbert series as generating functions.

High-precision scattering amplitudes for LHC phenomenology

Abstract:In this work, we consider scattering amplitudes relevant for high-precision Large Hadron Collider (LHC) phenomenology. We analyse the general structure of amplitudes, and we review state-of-the-art methods for computing them. We discuss advantages and shortcomings of these methods, and we point out the bottlenecks in modern amplitude computations. As a practical illustration, we present frontier applications relevant for multi-loop multi-scale processes. We compute the helicity amplitudes for diphoton production in gluon fusion and photon+jet production in proton scattering in three-loop massless Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). We have adopted a new projector-based prescription to compute helicity amplitudes in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme. We also rederived the minimal set of independent Feynman integrals for this problem using the differential equations method, and we confirmed their intricate analytic properties. By employing modern methods for integral reduction, we provide the final results in a compact form, which is appropriate for efficient numerical evaluation. Beyond QCD, we have computed the two-loop mixed QCD-electroweak amplitudes for Z+jet production in proton scattering in light-quark-initiated channels, without closed fermion loops. This process provides important insight into the high-precision studies of the Standard Model, as well as into Dark Matter searches at the LHC. We have employed a numerical approach based on high-precision evaluation of Feynman integrals with the modern Auxiliary Mass Flow method. The obtained numerical results in all relevant partonic channels are evaluated on a two-dimensional grid appropriate for further phenomenological applications.

Abstract:We compute all helicity amplitudes for the scattering of five partons in two-loop QCD in all the relevant flavor configurations, retaining all contributing color structures. We employ tensor projection to obtain helicity amplitudes in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme starting from a set of primitive amplitudes. Our analytic results are expressed in terms of massless pentagon functions, and are easy to evaluate numerically. These amplitudes provide important input to investigations of collinear-factorization breaking and to studies of the multi-Regge kinematics regime.

Abstract:Multiparton interactions are a fascinating phenomenon that occur in almost every high-energy hadron-hadron collision yet are remarkably difficult to study quantitatively. In this Letter, we present a strategy to optimally disentangle multiparton interactions from the primary scattering in a collision. That strategy enables probes of multiparton interactions that are significantly beyond the state of the art, including their characteristic momentum scale, the interconnection between primary and secondary scatters, and the pattern of three and potentially even more simultaneous hard scatterings. Abstract:We study the singularity structure of two-loop QED amplitudes for the production of multiple off-shell photons in massless electron-positron annihilation and develop counterterms that remove their infrared and ultraviolet divergences point by point in the loop integrand. The remainders of the subtraction are integrable in four dimensions and can be computed in the future with numerical integration. The counterterms capture the divergences of the amplitudes and factorize in terms of the Born amplitude and the finite remainder of the one-loop amplitude. They consist of simple one- and two-loop integrals with at most three external momenta and can be integrated analytically in a simple manner with established methods. We uncover novel aspects of fully local IR factorization, where vertex and self energy subdiagrams must be modified by new symmetrizations over loop momenta, in order to expose their tree-like tensor structures and hence factorization of IR singularities prior to loop integration. This work is a first step towards isolating locally the hard contributions of generic gauge theory amplitudes and rendering them integrable in exactly four dimensions with numerical methods.

Abstract:During the last several years remarkable progress has been made in numerical calculations of dimensionally regulated multi-loop Feynman diagrams using Mellin-Barnes (MB) representations. The bottlenecks were non-planar diagrams and Minkowskian kinematics. The method has been proved to work in highly non-trivial physical application (two-loop electroweak bosonic corrections to the $Z \to b \bar{b}$ decay), and cross-checked with the sector decomposition (SD) approach. In fact, both approaches have their pros and cons. In calculation of multidimensional integrals, depending on masses and scales involved, they are complementary. A powerful top-bottom approach to the numerical integration of multidimensional MB integrals is automatized in the MB-suite AMBRE/MB/ MBtools/MBnumerics/CUBA. Key elements are a dedicated use of the Cheng-Wu theorem for non-planar topologies and of shifts and deformations of the integration contours. An alternative bottom-up approach starting with complex 1-dimensional MB-integrals, based on the exploration of steepest descent integration contours in Minkowskian kinematics, is also discussed. Short and long term prospects of the MB-method for multi-loop applications to LHC- and LC-physics are discussed.
