Abstract:We discuss certain homological properties of graded algebras whose trivial modules admit nonpure resolutions. Such algebras include both of Artin-Schelter regular algebras of types (12221) and (13431). Under certain conditions, a module with nonpure resolution is decomposed to form an extension by two modules with pure resolutions.

Abstract:We study and classify Artin-Schelter regular algebras of dimension five with two generators under an additional Z(2)-grading by Hilbert driven Grobner basis computations. All the algebras we obtained are strongly noetherian, Auslander regular, and Cohen-Macaulay. One of the results provides an answer to Floystad-Vatne's question in the context of Z(2)-grading. Our results also achieve a connection between Lyndon words and Artin-Schelter regular algebras. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:We show that every absolute-valued algebra with left-unit satisfying (x2; x2; x2) = 0 is finite-dimensional of degree at most 4: Next, we determine such an algebras. In addition to the already known algebras R; C; \astC; H; \astH; \astH(i; 1); O; \astO; \astO(i; 1) the list is completed by two new algebras not yet specified in the literature.

Abstract:For any we construct an infinite -generated Heyting algebra whose n-generated subalgebras are of cardinality for some positive integer . From this we conclude that for every there exists a variety of Heyting algebras which contains an infinite -generated algebra, but which contains only finite n-generated algebras. For the case this provides a negative answer to a question posed by G. Bezhanishvili and R. Grigolia in [4].

Abstract:-algebra is a natural generalization of Heyting algebra, unifying many algebraic structures including bounded lattices, Heyting algebras, temporal Heyting algebras and the algebraic presentation of the dynamic topological systems. In a series of two papers, we will systematically study the algebro-topological properties of different varieties of -algebras. In the present paper, we start with investigating the structure of these varieties by characterizing their subdirectly irreducible and simple elements. Then, we prove the closure of these varieties under the Dedekind-MacNeille completion and provide the canonical construction and the Kripke representation for -algebras by which we establish the amalgamation property for some varieties of -algebras. In the sequel of the present paper, we will complete the study by covering the logics of these varieties and their corresponding Priestley-Esakia and spectral duality theories.

Abstract:Satisfiability degree extends the satisfiable property of a formula, represents the satisfiable extent of certain properties in model checking, and exhibits its exactness and convenience for representing real-world uncertainty and fuzziness. Computation of the satisfiability degree of propositional formulas is concerned in this paper. The computation relies on truth table, avoids the obtaining of membership function in fuzzy logic and probability function in probabilistic logic, and finally obtains much exacter value than fuzzy logic and probabilistic logics. Two computation algorithms respectively based on interpretations of CNF (Conjunctive Normal Form) formulas and explanations of propositional formulas are proposed, and further improvement of the basic interpretation-based algorithm is disclosed.

Abstract:In the real world, there are situations of uncertainty that the classical logics are not capable to represent, consequently some non-classical logics emerged to compensate for the deficiency of the classical logics of expressing uncertainty. Satisfiability degree was presented as a new means of representing uncertainty. In this talk some properties of the satisfiability degree are viewed. An algorithm is proposed for computing the satisfiability degree of any proposition, which is developed by using XOBDD, an extension of OBDD.

Abstract:Mermin and Peres showed that there are boolean constraint systems (BCSs) which are not satisfiable, but which are satisfiable with quantum observables. This has led to a burgeoning theory of quantum satisfiability for constraint systems, connected to nonlocal games and quantum contextuality. In this theory, different types of quantum satisfying assignments can be understood as representations of the BCS algebra of the system. This theory is closely related to the theory of synchronous games and algebras, and every synchronous algebra is a BCS algebra and vice-versa. The purpose of this paper is to further develop the role of BCS algebras in this theory, and tie up some loose ends: We give a new presentation of BCS algebras in terms of joint spectral projections, and show that it is equivalent to the standard definition. We construct a constraint system which is $C^*$-satisfiable but not tracially satisfiable. We show that certain reductions between constraint systems lead to $*$-homomorphisms between the BCS algebras of the systems, and use this to streamline and strengthen several results of Atserias, Kolaitis, and Severini on analogues of Schaefer's dichotomy theorem. In particular, we show that the question of whether or not there is a non-hyperlinear group is linked to dichotomy theorems for $\mathcal{R}^{\mathcal{U}}$-satisfiability.

On the enumeration of finite $L$-algebras

Abstract:We use Constraint Satisfaction Methods to construct and enumerate finite $L$-algebras up to isomorphism. These objects were recently introduced by Rump and appear in Garside theory, algebraic logic, and the study of the combinatorial Yang-Baxter equation. There are 377322225 isomorphism classes of $L$-algebras of size eight. The database constructed suggest the existence of bijections between certain classes of $L$-algebras and well-known combinatorial objects. On the one hand, we prove that Bell numbers enumerate isomorphism classes of finite linear $L$-algebras. On the other hand, we also prove that finite regular $L$-algebras are in bijective correspondence with infinite-dimensional Young diagrams.

Abstract:A Heyting algebra is supplemented if each element $a$ has a dual pseudo-complement $a^+$, and a Heyting algebra is centrally supplement if it is supplemented and each supplement is central. We show that each Heyting algebra has a centrally supplemented extension in the same variety of Heyting algebras as the original. We use this tool to investigate a new type of completion of Heyting algebras arising in the context of algebraic proof theory, the so-called hyper-MacNeille completion. We show that the hyper-MacNeille completion of a Heyting algebra is the MacNeille completion of its centrally supplemented extension. This provides an algebraic description of the hyper-MacNeille completion of a Heyting algebra, allows development of further properties of the hyper-MacNeille completion, and provides new examples of varieties of Heyting algebras that are closed under hyper-MacNeille completions. In particular, connections between the centrally supplemented extension and Boolean products allow us to show that any finitely generated variety of Heyting algebras is closed under hyper-MacNeille completions.

Abstract:In this paper we address long standing open problems of Bergstra and Tucker about specifications of abstract data types by means of equations and conditional equations. By an abstract data type we mean the isomorphism type of an algebra. An algebra is algebraically specified if the algebra can be defined uniquely, in a certain precise sense, in terms of a finite number of conditional equations by allowing functions that are not in the original language of the algebra. We provide full solutions to Bergtsra and Tucker problems, explain basic ideas, methods, and the logical dependencies between blocks of proofs used in our solutions.

Abstract:We apply, in the context of semigroups, the main theorem from~\cite{higjac} that an elementary class $\mathcal{C}$ of algebras which is closed under the taking of direct products and homomorphic images is defined by systems of equations. We prove a dual to the Birkhoff theorem in that if the class is also closed under the taking of containing semigroups, some basis of equations of $\mathcal{C}$ is free of the $\forall$ quantifier. Examples are given of EHP-classes that require more than two quantifiers in some equation of any equational basis.

Finite Algebras with Hom-Sets of Polynomial Size

Abstract:We provide an internal characterization of those finite algebras (i.e., algebraic structures) $\mathbf A$ such that the number of homomorphisms from any finite algebra $\mathbf X$ to $\mathbf A$ is bounded from above by a polynomial in the size of $\mathbf X$. Namely, an algebra $\mathbf A$ has this property if, and only if, no subalgebra of $\mathbf A$ has a nontrivial strongly abelian congruence. We also show that the property can be decided in polynomial time for algebras in finite signatures. Moreover, if $\mathbf A$ is such an algebra, the set of all homomorphisms from $\mathbf X$ to $\mathbf A$ can be computed in polynomial time given $\mathbf X$ as input. As an application of our results to the field of computational complexity, we characterize inherently tractable constraint satisfaction problems over fixed finite structures, i.e., those that are tractable and remain tractable after expanding the fixed structure by arbitrary relations or functions.

Advances in Applied Clifford Algebras

Abstract:<p class="a-plus-plus">The Boolean satisfiability problem (SAT) is the problem of determining whether the variables of a given Boolean formula can be consistently replaced by true or false in such a way that the formula evaluates to true. In fact, SAT was the first known NP-complete problem. In recent years, SAT has found numerous industrial applications, particularly in model checking tools. In the current work, three approaches to Boolean satisfiability based on Clifford subalgebras are presented. In the first approach, an "idem-Clifford" algebraic test for satisfiability is presented. This test is straightforward to implement symbolically (e.g., using <em class="a-plus-plus">Mathematica</em>), but does not yield the specific solution sets for a given formula. In the second approach, nilpotent adjacency matrix methods are extended to Boolean formulas in order to determine not only whether or not a Boolean formula is satisfiable but to explicitly obtain all solutions. This approach requires the construction of a graph associated with a given Boolean formula. Finally, a "new" algebraic framework is developed that combines the convenience of the first approach with the power of the second, recovering explicit solutions without the need to construct graphs. The algebraic formalism presented here readily lends itself to symbolic computations and provides the theoretical basis of a Clifford-algebraic SAT solver.</p>
