Abstract:Previous research has not covered reliable comprehensive equations to relate the mechanical properties of high-performance concrete (HPC) to its aggregate types, silica fume content, and fiber volume fraction; therefore, this study aims to access such a relationship. HPC with 24 mixing designs with different percentages of silica fume (0, 10, and 15%), steel fibers (0, 0.4, 0.8, and 1.2%), and water-to-cementitious materials (w/cm) ratios (0.25, and 0.4) were prepared. Compressive, splitting tensile, and four-point flexural tests were conducted on the specimens made with such concrete. According to the findings, HPC with 10% silica fume, 1.2% steel fibers, and a 0.25 ratio of w/cm achieved the highest compressive strength (roughly 99 MPa), while HPC with 15% silica fume produced the highest tensile strength (7.4 MPa) and flexural strength (14.6 MPa). As the amount of silica fume increased and the ratio of w/cm decreased, a more pronounced softening region was created in load–displacement diagrams. Appropriate equations for the prediction of the mechanical characteristics of HPC were proposed through multivariate regression analyses. It was shown that the proposed equations with an inaccuracy of less than 10%, could appropriately predict the mechanical characteristics of HPC reinforced with steel fibers based on the variables of silica fume content, w/cm ratio, and percentage of steel fibers.
