Abstract:The exploration of ternary composite-based materials as a possible substitute for supercapacitor electrodes has been prompted by the depletion of fossil fuels and the growing need for sustainable energy storage. Supercapacitors are highly regarded as an attractive technological solution for advanced energy storage in the coming era due to their inherent safety features and special qualities like fast charging, high power density, long lifespan, thermal durability, good permeability, and large specific surface area. Herein, a simple synthesis procedure was used to incorporate ruthenium particles into a nanomaterial consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and functionalized graphene oxide (GO). A density function theory (DFT) study shows that the ruthenium particles have excellent electronic conductivity and fast electron transfer. The ternary system's connected architecture allowed for a range of electrochemical techniques, and the electrical behavior of the occurrences has been evaluated using several electrochemical characterizations. As a result, the ternary hybrid of GO/MWCNT/Ru (G3) material had the lower Rct (∼13.52 Ω), a higher specific capacitance of 527.67F/g at 1 mV/s, 169.93F/g at 1 A/g, and good cycle stability (existing 87.41 % capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles). The supercapacitor produced the specific energy of 23.60 Wh/kg and specific power of 249.72 W/kg, respectively. These improved performances arise from the synergistic interaction between GO and MWCNT in ternary hybrids, which permits electrolyte ions access to the active material electrode during the electrochemical reaction.
