Abstract:In this paper, we study the singularly perturbed Gross–Pitaevskii equation $$\begin{aligned} -\epsilon ^2\Delta u+V(x)u+\lambda _1|u|^2u+\lambda _2(K*|u|^2)u=0,\ u\in H^1({\mathbb {R}}^3), \end{aligned}$$ where $$\epsilon >0$$ is a parameter, the potential V is a positive function which possesses global minimum points, $$\lambda _1,\lambda _2\in {\mathbb {R}}$$ , $$*$$ denotes the convolution, $$K(x)=\frac{1-3\cos ^2{\theta }}{|x|^3}$$ and $$\theta =\theta (x)$$ is the angle between the dipole axis determined by (0, 0, 1) and the vector x. Using variational methods, we show the existence of ground states for $$\epsilon $$ small, and describe the concentration phenomena of ground states as $$\epsilon \rightarrow 0$$ . We also investigate the relationship between the number of positive solutions and the profile of the potential V.

It is proved that the numbers of normalized solutions are at least the numbers of global maximum points of h when epsilon is small enough. The solutions obtained are local minimizers and probably not ground state solutions for the lack of symmetry of the potential h. Secondly, the stability of several different sets consisting of the local minimizers is analysed. Compared with the results of the corresponding autonomous equation, the appearance of the potential h increases the number of the local minimizers and the number of the stable sets. In particular, our results cover the Sobolev critical case $p=2N/(N-2)$.

Abstract:The paper is concerned with a system of two coupled time-independent Gross-Pitaevskii equations in R-2, which is used to model two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with both attractive intraspecies and attractive interspecies interactions. This system is essentially an eigenvalue problem of a stationary nonlinear Schriidinger system in R-2, and solutions of the problem are obtained by seeking minimizers of the associated variational functional with constrained mass (i.e. L-2 norm constaints). Under a certain type of trapping potentials V-i(x) (i = 1, 2), the existence, non-existence and uniqueness of this kind of solutions are studied. Moreover, by establishing some delicate energy estimates, we show that each component of the solutions blows up at the same point (i.e., one of the global minima of V-i(x)) when the total interaction strength of intraspecies and interspecies goes to a critical value. An optimal blowing up rate for the solutions of the system is also given.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with solutions to the fractional Schrödinger-Poisson system with prescribed mass , where a > 0 is a prescribed number, μ > 0 is a paremeter, s ∈ (0, 1), 2 < q < 2*s, and is the fractional critical Sobolev exponent. In the L2-subcritical case, we show the existence of multiple normalized solutions by using the genus theory and the truncation technique; in the L2-supercritical case, we obtain a couple of normalized solutions by developing a fiber map. Under both cases, to recover the loss of compactness of the energy functional caused by the doubly critical growth, we need to adopt the concentration-compactness principle. Our results complement and improve upon some existing studies on the fractional Schrödinger-Poisson system with a nonlocal critical term.

Abstract:In this paper we deal with a nonlinear Schrödinger–Poisson equation involving critical Sobolev exponent. Under a local condition imposed on the potential, we relate the number of positive solutions with the topology of the set where the potential attains its minimum values. In the proofs we apply Szulkin and Weth's generalized Nehari manifold methods, penalization techniques and Ljusternik–Schnirelmann theory.

Fractional Gross-Pitaevskii equations in non-Gaussian attractive Bose-Einstein condensates

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate normalized solutions of a fractional Gross-Pitaevskii equation, which arises in an attractive Bose-Einstein condensation consisting of $N$ bosons moving by Lévy flights. We prove that there exists a positive constant $N^*$, such that if $0<N<N^*$ and the Lévy index $\alpha$ closed to $2$, the fractional Gross-Pitaevskii equation admits a local minimal normalized solution $u_\alpha$ and a mountain pass solution $v_\alpha$, but there does not exist positive local minimal solution if $N>N^*$ and $\alpha$ closed to $2$. We also study the asymptotic behavior of $u_\alpha$ and $v_\alpha$ as $\alpha\to 2_-$.

Abstract:We study the Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in a three-dimensional spherically symmetrical potential. Exact solutions to the stationary Gross-Pitaevskii equation are obtained for properly modulated radial nonlinearity. The solutions contain vortices with different winding numbers and exhibit the shell-soliton feature in the radial distributions.

We consider the existence and asymptotic behavior on mass of positive solutions to the following system −Δu + λ1u = μ1u3 + α1|u|p−2u + βv2u in R4, −Δv + λ2v = μ2v3 + α2|v|p−2v + βu2v in R4, under the normalized mass constraints ∫R4u2 = a21 and ∫R4v2 = a22, where a1, a2 are prescribed, μ1, μ2, β > 0, α1, α2 ∈ R, p ∈ (2, 4) and λ1, λ2 ∈ R appear as Lagrange multipliers. Firstly, we establish a non-existence result for the repulsive interaction case, i.e., αi < 0(i = 1, 2). Then turning to the case of αi > 0(i = 1, 2), if 2 < p < 3, we show that the problem admits a ground state and an excited state. Moreover, we give a precise asymptotic behavior of these two solutions as (a1, a2) → (0, 0) and a1 ~ a2. This seems to be the first contribution regarding the multiplicity as well as synchronized mass collapse behavior of normalized solutions to Schrödinger systems with Sobolev critical exponent. When 3 ≤ p < 4, we prove an existence as well as a non-existence (p = 3) results of ground states. In this paper, we consider the nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equation with Sobolev critical exponent and mixed nonlinearities (−Δ)su = λu + μ|u|q−2u + |u|2*s−2u, x ∈ RN, ∫RN |u|2dx = c, u ∈ Hs(RN), (0.1) where s ∈ (0, 1), N > 2s, μ > 0, 2 < q < 2 + 4s/N and 2*s = 2N/N−2s is the fractional Sobolev critical exponent. We show that there exists an explicit mass threshold value c0 such that, for any c ∈ (0, c0], (0.1) admits a ground state solution u+c and a excited state solution u−c, which can be characterized as a local minimizer and as a Mountain Pass type critical point of the corresponding energy functional. We emphasis that the result is new in the case c = c0 even for the Laplacian operator, which is based on the full use of minimizers of the fractional Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev inequality and the Aubin-Talanti bubbles. Moreover, by establishing a refined upper bound of energy level, we capture the precise asymptotic behaviour of the obtained normalized solutions as c → 0+ and μ → 0+. These conclusions extend some known ones in previous papers.
A systematic perturbative expansion of the solution of the time-independent Gross-Pitaevskii equation

Abstract:In this article a perturbative solution of the Gross-Pitaevskii(GP) equation in the $D$-dimensional space $R^D$ with a general external potential is studied. The solution describes the condensate wave-function of a gas containing $N$ Bose particles. A criteria for the validity of the perturbative solution is developed. Furthermore expressions for the particle density, the chemical potential, the internal energy and the mean-square radius of the condensate are derived corrected to first order in the coupling constant. The scheme is then applied to obtain the solution of the GP equation in $D=1,2,3$ for external harmonic potentials. It is shown, in each case, that if $N$ exceeds a certain value the solution breaks down.

Abstract:We present several exact solutions to the coupled nonlinear Gross–Pitaevskii equations which describe the motion of the one-dimensional spin-2 Bose–Einstein condensates. The nonlinear density–density interactions are decoupled by making use of the properties of Jacobian elliptical functions. The distinct time factors in each hyperfine state implies a "Lamor" procession in these solutions. Furthermore, exact time-evolving solutions to the time-dependent Gross–Pitaevskii equations are constructed through the spin-rotational symmetry of the Hamiltonian. The spin-polarizations and density distributions in the spin-space are analyzed.

Abstract:We devote this paper to the multiplicity and concentration behavior of complex-valued solutions for the following Schrödinger–Poisson equation with magnetic Laplacian {[ (ε/i∇ -A(x) )^2u +V(x)u-ϕ (x)|u|^3u=f(|u|^2)u+|u|^4u in ℝ^3,; -ε ^2Δϕ =|u|^5 in ℝ^3, ]. where ε >0 is a small parameter, the nonlinearity f∈ C^1(ℝ,ℝ) , both V:ℝ^3→ℝ and A:ℝ^3→ℝ^3 are continuous potential and magnetic potential, respectively. Imposing a global condition on potential V ( x ) first introduced from Rabinowitz, to get the multiplicity of solutions we investigate the relationship between the number of solutions and the topology of a set with V attaining the minimum based on the variational methods and Lusternik–Schnirelmann theory. Moreover, we prove that the problem under consideration admits the solutions with exponential decay at infinity and concentrating around global minimum of V ( x ), for ε >0 small. We would like to remark that a key ingredient is how to apply a delicate analysis to overcome the difficulty due to the presence of double critical growths and magnetic field.
