Abstract:We construct a new family of strongly regular graphs with the same parameters as the strongly regular graphs D 5 , 5 ( q ) . The construction can be seen as a variant of the construction of twisted Grassmann graphs by Van Dam and Koolen.

Abstract:We find new constructions of infinite families of skew Hadamard difference sets in elementary abelian groups under the assumption of the existence of cyclotomic strongly regular graphs. Our construction is based on choosing cyclotomic classes in finite fields.

Abstract:We prove a new characterization of weakly regular ternary bent functions via partial difference sets. Partial difference sets are combinatorial objects corresponding to strongly regular graphs. Using known families of bent functions, we obtain in this way new families of strongly regular graphs, some of which were previously unknown. One of the families includes an example in [N. Hamada, T. Helleseth, A characterization of some {3v2+v3,3v1+v2,3,3}-minihypers and some [15,4,9;3]-codes with B2=0, J. Statist. Plann. Inference 56 (1996) 129–146], which was considered to be sporadic; using our results, this strongly regular graph is now a member of an infinite family. Moreover, this paper contains a new proof that the Coulter–Matthews and ternary quadratic bent functions are weakly regular.

Abstract:In the survey paper by Van Dam, Koolen and Tanaka (2016), they asked to classify the thin $Q$-polynomial distance-regular graphs. In this paper, we show that a thin distance-regular graph with the same intersection numbers as a Grassmann graph $J_q(n, D)~ (n \geqslant 2D)$ is the Grassmann graph if $D$ is large enough.

Finite Fields and Their Applications

Abstract:Let q = p e , where p is a prime and e is a positive integer. The family of graphs D ( k , q ) , defined for any positive integer k and prime power q, were introduced by Lazebnik and Ustimenko in 1995. To this day, the connected components of the graphs D ( k , q ) , provide the best known general lower bound for the size of a graph of given order and given girth. Furthermore, Ustimenko conjectured that the second largest eigenvalue of D ( k , q ) is always less than or equal to 2 q . If true, this would imply that for a fixed q and k growing, D ( k , q ) would define a family of expanders that are nearly Ramanujan. In this paper we prove the smallest open case of the conjecture, showing that for all odd prime powers q, the second largest eigenvalue of D ( 5 , q ) is less than or equal to 2 q .

On a Characterization of the Grassmann Graphs

Abstract:In 1995, Metsch showed that the Grassmann graph $J_q(n,D)$ of diameter $D\geq 3$ is characterized by its intersection numbers with the following possible exceptions: (-) $n=2D$ or $n=2D+1$, $q\geq 2$; (-) $n=2D+2$ and $q\in \{2,3\}$; (-) $n=2D+3$ and $q=2$. In 2005, Van Dam and Koolen constructed the twisted Grassmann graphs with the same intersection numbers as the Grassmann graphs $J_q(2D+1,D)$, for any prime power $q$ and diameter $D\geq 2$, but they are not isomorphic. We show that the Grassmann graph $J_q(2D,D)$ is characterized by its intersection numbers provided that the diameter $D$ is large enough.
A new family of locally $5$-arc transitive graphs of pushing up type with respect to the prime 3

Abstract:Let $q$ be a power of the prime 3. A locally 5-arc transitive $G$-graph of pushing up type is constructed for each value of $q$. For $q=3$, the $G$-graph constructed provides an example of a graph with a vertex stabilizer amalgam of shape ${\cal E}_1$ in the sense of [1]. Whereas, for the other values of $q$, the vertex stabilizer amalgam of the $G$-graph is of a previously unknown shape. In particular, for $q \neq 3$, these graphs are the first examples of locally 5-arc transitive graphs containing a vertex $z$ for which the group that fixes all 3-arcs originating at $z$ is non-trivial.

Abstract:In this paper, any directed graph is called a quiver . We first introduce the notions of skeleton graph and reduced skeleton graph of K 5 and K 3,3 types. Then a complete classification of reduced skeleton graphs of K 5 and K 3,3 types is given. Moreover, as a specification of Kuratowski’s theorem, the precise characterization of non-planar cluster quivers from surface is obtained.

Abstract:We present simple, geometric constructions for small regular graphs of girth 7 from the incidence graphs of some generalized quadrangles. We obtain infinite families of (q-1)-regular, q-regular and (q + 1)-regular graphs of girth 7, for q a prime power. Some of them have the smallest order known so far.

Abstract:Let G denote a dihedral group, where 1 is identity element and T⊆G∖{1} . We define T as minimal if T satisfies the condition 〈T〉=G , and there is an element s∈T satisfying 〈T∖{s,s−1}〉≠G . Abstract:We classify all connected, simple, 3-regular graphs with girth at least 5 that are Ricci-flat. We use the definition of Ricci curvature on graphs given in Lin-Lu-Yau, Tohoku Math., 2011, which is a variation of Ollivier, J. Funct. Anal., 2009. A graph is Ricci-flat, if it has vanishing Ricci curvature on all edges. We show, that the only Ricci-flat cubic graphs with girth at least 5 are the Petersen graph, the Triplex and the dodecahedral graph. This will correct the classification in Lin-Lu-Yau, Comm. Anal. Geom., 2014, that misses the Triplex.

Abstract:Quantum 8, 1416 (2024). https://doi.org/10.22331/q-2024-07-18-1416 Twist defects in surface codes can be used to encode more logical qubits, improve the code rate, and implement logical gates. In this work we provide a rigorous formalism for constructing surface codes with twists generalizing the well-defined homological formalism introduced by Kitaev for describing CSS surface codes. In particular, we associate a surface code to graph embedded on 2D-manifold, in such a way that (1) qubits are associated to the vertices of the graph, (2) stabilizers are associated to faces, (3) twist defects are associated to odd-degree vertices. In this way, we are able to reproduce the variety of surface codes, with and without twists, in the literature and produce new examples. We also calculate and bound various code properties such as the rate and distance in terms of topological graph properties such as genus, systole, and face-width.

Abstract:Let Gamma be an antipodal distance-regular graph with diameter 4 and eigenvalues theta(0) > theta(1) > theta(2) > theta(3) > theta(4). Then its Krein parameter q(11)(4) vanishes precisely when Gamma is tight in the sense of Jurisic, Koolen and Terwilliger, and furthermore, precisely when Gamma is locally strongly regular with nontrivial eigenvalues p := theta(2) and -q := theta(3). When this is the case, the intersection parameters of Gamma can be parameterized by p, q and the size of the antipodal classes r of Gamma, hence we denote Gamma by AT4(p, q, r).Jurisic conjectured that the AT4(p, q, r) family is finite and that, aside from the Conway-Smith graph, the Soicher2 graph and the 3.Fi(24)(-) graph, all graphs in this family have parameters belonging to one of the following four subfamilies:(i) q vertical bar p, r = q, (ii) q vertical bar p, r = 2,(iii) p = q - 2, r = q - 1, (iv) p = q - 2, r = 2.In this paper we settle the first subfamily. Abstract:We describe how to recover a Lie structure on a twist over a Hausdorff étale groupoid from functional-analytic data in the spirit of Connes' reconstruction theorem for manifolds. We first characterise when a smooth structure on the unit space of a Hausdorff étale groupoid can be extended to a Lie-groupoid structure on the whole groupoid. We introduce Lie twists over Hausdorff Lie groupoids, building on Kumjian's notion of a twist over a topological groupoid. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions on a family of sections of a twist over a Lie groupoid under which the twist can be made into a Lie twist so that all the specified sections are smooth. We use these results in the setting of twists over étale groupoids to describe conditions on a Cartan pair of C*-algebras and a family of normalisers of the subalgebra, under which Renault's Weyl twist for the pair can be made into a Lie twist for which the given normalisers correspond to smooth sections.
