Abstract:The automotive sector has grown in response to the rising demand for automobiles, resulting in increasing amounts of waste. The exorbitant expense of landfill management, along with the toxicity of the soil created from this automotive industrial waste, have raised significant environmental concerns. The rich source of Fe-iron from this waste indicated that it can be used as a raw material for producing a pigment. In this work, after first being treated with water and magnetic suction, the automotive waste was combined in various proportions with other starting raw materials such a zinc oxide, chromium oxide and aluminum chloride hexahydrate. The powder combination was then heated to 1250 °C, resulting in a unique pigment composition. The glaze component was combined with 5 wt% addition of synthesized Fe-waste pigment, which was then coated on a biscuit body. Then, the sample was heated to 1200 °C prior to analysis for color and structural phase. The results indicated that automotive waste can be used to synthesize a pigment with a variety of shades. More importantly, the pigment produced from waste has the potential to lower disposal costs and raise the profitability from repurposed waste, while also reducing waste discharge and environmental sustainability impacts.
