Abstract:The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) has measured numerous quarkonium states via their decays into muon pairs in pp and PbPb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV. Quarkonia are especially relevant for studying the quark-gluon plasma since they are produced at early times and propagate through the medium, mapping its evolution. Non-prompt J/psi from b-hadron decays show a strong suppression in the transverse momentum range (6.5 < p_T < 30 GeV/c) when compared to the yield in pp collisions scaled by the number of inelastic nucleon-nucleon collisions. This suppression is related to the in-medium b-quark energy loss. In the same kinematic region, for prompt J/psi, a strong, centrality-dependent suppression is observed in PbPb collisions. Such strong suppression at high p_T has previously not been observed at RHIC. At midrapidity (|y| < 1.6) and the same p_T region, inclusive psi(2S) are even stronger suppressed than J/psi, whereas psi(2S) at forward rapidity (1.6 < |y| < 2.4) and lower p_T (3 < p_T < 30 GeV/c) appear to be less suppressed than J/psi, however, with large uncertainties that prevent a conclusion. Furthermore, low-p_T Y(2S) and Y(3S) mesons are strongly suppressed in PbPb collisions. The suppression of the Y(1S) state is smaller than the suppression of the excited states and consistent with the suppression of the feed-down contribution only.

Abstract:Heavy quark spectroscopy and exotic states are studied with the ATLAS detector, mainly through final states containing muon pairs from J/ψ decays. This proceedings will summarise recent results from ATLAS on these topics, including production of quarkonium and heavy flavour, searches for exotic states and measurements of decay properties in open beauty production.

Abstract:We first review the cold and hot nuclear matter effects on quarkonium production in high energy collisions, then discuss three kinds of models to describe the quarkonium suppression and regeneration: the sequential dissociation, the statistical production and the transport approach, and finally make comparisons between the models and the experimental data from heavy ion collisions at SPS, RHIC and LHC energies.

Abstract:The LHC has provided an unprecedented amount of proton-proton collision data, bringing forth exciting opportunities to address fundamental open questions in particle physics. These questions can potentially be answered by performing searches for very rare processes predicted by models that attempt to extend the standard model of particle physics. The data collected by the CMS experiment in 2015-2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV help to test the standard model at the highest precision ever and potentially discover new physics. An interesting opportunity is presented by the possibility of new fermions with masses ranging from the MeV to the TeV scale. Such new particles appear in many possible extensions of the standard model and are well motivated theoretically. They may explain the appearance of three generations of leptons and quarks, the mass hierarchy across the generations, and the nonzero neutrino masses. In this report, the status of searches targeting vector-like quarks, vector-like leptons, and heavy neutral leptons at the CMS experiment is discussed. A complete overview of final states is provided together with their complementarity and partial combination. The discovery potential for several of these searches at the High-Luminosity LHC is also discussed.

Abstract:Heavy ion collisions are rich and complex systems that involve different aspects of QCD and electromagnetic phenomena. From head-on collisions to the case in which the nuclei miss each other, many of QCD and photo-induced probes are being actively investigated. In this contribution we briefly discuss both of these different topics and some of the CMS results on top quark production and vector meson photo-production, as well as the physics motivation to study these processes are presented.

Abstract:In (ultra-)relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the strongly interactingmatter is predicted to undergo a phase transition into a plasma of deconfinedquarks and gluons (QGP) and quarkonia probe different aspects of this medium.However, the medium modification of quarkonium production includes also the contribution of cold nuclear matter effects (CNM), such as shadowing or nuclear break-up in addition to QGP effects. Proton--nucleus collisions, where no QGP is expected, are used to measure cold nuclear matter effects on quarkonium production. Vacuum production of quarkonia is modelled in proton--proton (pp) collisions, which are used as reference for both heavy-ion and proton--nucleus collisions. Besides serving as reference, results in pp collisions represent a benchmark test of QCD based models in both perturbative and non-perturbative regimes. The ALICE detector has unique capabilities at the LHC for measuring quarkonia down to zero transverse momentum. Measurements are carried out at both central and forward rapidity, in the dielectron and dimuon decay channel, respectively. In this contribution the latest quarkonium measurements for various energies and colliding systems, performed by the ALICE Collaboration during the LHC Run-2 period, will be discussed.

Overview of high-density QCD studies with the CMS experiment at the LHC

Abstract:The heavy ion (HI) physics program has proven to be an essential part of the overall physics program at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Its main purpose has been to provide a detailed characterization of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a deconfined state of quarks and gluons created in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. From the start of the LHC HI program with lead-lead collisions, the CMS Collaboration has performed measurements using additional data sets in different center-of-mass energies with xenon-xenon, proton-lead, and proton-proton collisions. A broad collection of observables related to high-density quantum chromodynamics (QCD), precision quantum electrodynamics (QED), and even novel searches of phenomena beyond the standard model (BSM) have been studied. Major advances toward understanding the macroscopic and microscopic QGP properties were achieved at the highest temperature reached in the laboratory and for vanishingly small values of the baryon chemical potential. This article summarizes key QCD, QED, as well as BSM physics, results of the CMS HI program for the LHC Runs 1 (2010-2013) and 2 (2015-2018). It reviews findings on the partonic content of nuclei and properties of the QGP and describes the surprising QGP-like effects in collision systems smaller than lead-lead or xenon-xenon. In addition, it outlines the scientific case of using ultrarelativistic HI collisions in the coming decades to characterize the QGP with unparalleled precision and to probe novel fundamental physics phenomena.

Abstract:Recent results on heavy flavor physics using data from the ATLAS and CMS detectors are presented. The searches for new physics signatures in CP violation of B0_s - anti(B0_s) mixing and in B0_d --> K*0 mu+ mu- decays are discussed. The bottomonium and open-b production results obtained from proton-proton collisions at LHC are shown. The results are based on data samples containing mu+ mu- pairs collected with the ATLAS or CMS detectors by their corresponding muon trigger systems.

Abstract:Biological systems are typically very complex and need to be reduced before they are amenable to a thorough analysis. Also, they often possess functionally important dynamic features like bistability. In model reduction, it is sometimes more desirable to preserve the dynamic features only than to recover a good quantitative approximation. We present an approach to reduce the order of a bistable dynamical system significantly while preserving bistability and the switching threshold. These properties are important for the operation of the system in the context of a larger network. As an application example, a bistable model for caspase activation in apoptosis is considered.

Abstract:We review the results on the bottomonium system from the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Measurements have been carried out at different center-of-mass energies in proton collisions and in collisions involving heavy ions. These include precision measurements of cross sections and polarizations, shedding light on hadroproduction mechanisms, and the observation of quarkonium sequential suppression, a notable indication of quark-gluon plasma formation. The observation of the production of bottomonium pairs is also reported along with searches for new states. We close with a brief outlook of the future physics program.

Abstract:The PHENIX collaboration efforts towards constraining and understanding quarkonia production mechanisms are outlined. J/psi measurements and feed-down sources studies in p-p collisions at 200 GeV, together with their possible indications on the hadro-production mechanisms, are discussed. J/psi photo-production in ultra-peripheral collisions at 200 GeV is also examined. Finally, a glimpse of the first bottomonia results in minimum bias Au-Au collisions at 200 GeV and their implications are presented.

Abstract:After the Higgs boson discovery in 2012, the investigation of its properties and compatibility with the standard model predictions is central to the physics program of the LHC experiments. Likewise, the study of the top quark is still relevant at the LHC, more than two decades after its discovery at the Tevatron. Top quarks and Higgs bosons are produced at the LHC on a large scale and share a deep connection based on the large mass of the top quark. Both particles provide an excellent laboratory in which to search for new physics: the measurement of their properties tests the foundations of the standard model; and they feature prominently in a variety of exotic signals. The coupling of the Higgs boson to the top quark, a fundamental standard model parameter, can only be measured directly in processes where the two particles are produced together. The production of a Higgs boson together with one or two top quarks is also sensitive to several exciting new physics effects. A brief overview of the current experimental status of top quark and Higgs boson physics is presented using results from the CMS Collaboration.

Abstract:Heavy quarkonium and quarkonium like states are studied in proton-proton collisions at a cernterof-mass energy of √ s = 7TeV with the LHCb detector at the LHC.Based on LHCb 2010 sample of about 37 pb -1 collected in the year 2010, ψ(2S) double differential cross section of transverse momentum (p T ) and rapidity (y) is measured both in ψ(2S) → µ + µ -channel and ψ(2S) → J/ψπ + π -channel.With the channel of χ c1,2 → J/ψγ, the ratio χ c1 /χ c2 is also measured as a function of J/ψ p T .With the same dataset, the measurement of ϒ(1S) double differential cross section of p T and y is also performed.The mass of exotic state X( 3872) is determined as well in the X(3872) → J/ψπ + π -decay.The analysis of χ b study and X(4140) search are performed including early LHCb 2011 data.The LHCb result doesn't confirm the CDF X(4140) signal.The ψ(2S) and ϒ(1S) results are compared with theoretical models and they agree reasonably well.
