Analysis of Port Transportation Functions Based on the Structure of Cargo Types

Abstract:In the context of the integration of Chinese port resources, port transportation function identification has become an important means of optimizing port resource allocation. Our research analyzes the structure characteristics of the port transportation function of China's provincial port groups from the perspective of port transportation function types, port transportation function status, port transportation function scale, and port transportation function system. The research results show that: there are one specialized provincial port, three general provincial ports, and seven comprehensive provincial ports in China's coastal regions; the transportation functions of provincial port groups have formed a relatively obvious "pyramid" structure feature, and the types of transportation functions have significant spatial differences; the spatial distribution of dominated transportation functions of provincial port groups is relatively small, and the spatial distributions of liquid bulk cargo and other cargo, solid bulk cargo and general cargo transportation functions are relatively similar; there is a weak relationship between port transportation scale and port transportation type. that is the larger the transportation scale of the provincial port groups, the stronger the comprehensiveness, but the smaller the transportation scale of the provincial port groups does not mean the stronger the specialization; the transportation functions of provincial port groups present a bi-fractal structure, and the transportation functions of solid bulk cargo and general cargo are characterized by a balanced development, while the liquid bulk cargo and other transportation functions are characterized by centralization and equalization.
