The retraction has been agreed after the authors asked to correct their article. An investigation revealed several flaws and inconsistencies between results presented and experimental methods described. Thus the editors consider the conclusions of this article to be invalid. The authors were not available for a final confirmation of the retraction.

This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief. Given the comments of Dr Elisabeth Bik regarding this article “… the Western blot bands in all 400+ papers are all very regularly spaced and have a smooth appearance in the shape of a dumbbell or tadpole, without any of the usual smudges or stains. All bands are placed on similar looking backgrounds, suggesting they were copy/pasted from other sources, or computer generated”, the journal requested the authors to provide the raw data. However, the authors were not able to fulfil this request and therefore the Editor-in-Chief decided to retract the article.

Abstract:This article has been retracted: please see Elsevier Policy on Article Withdrawal (https://www.elsevier.com/about/our-business/policies/article-withdrawal). The Editor-in-Chief has decided to retract this paper as the results cannot be relied upon. The authors contacted the editorial office admitting to outsourcing some of the experiments, specifically identifying that the Western Blot images were generated by a third-party laboratory. The authors tried to validate the results of the paper and obtain the raw data but were unable to do so, and offered to run additional experiments to correct the paper. The authors claim that the results and conclusions are still valid. The authors utilised potentially fraudulent data to generate their conclusions in this paper, which is in significant violation of journal policies and scientific best practice. The paper is therefore retracted.

The above article, published online on 13 January 2020, in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by agreement between the journal Editor-in-Chief, Stephen Tait, and John Wiley & Sons Ltd. A report submitted by a third party noted image duplications with other articles by different author groups. Specifically, the report found image duplications with other published articles in Figures 2D, 3C, 4B, 4C, 5C and 7B. The report also found image overlap between images in Figures 2C and 6H. The retraction has been agreed to because the evidence of image duplication across different articles, each of which describes different experimental conditions, fundamentally compromises the editors' confidence in the conclusions presented. The authors did not respond to our notice regarding the retraction.

Chen, W.-F. Yu, published in Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci 2019; 23 (4): 1397-1407-DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201902_17096-PMID: 30840260 has been retracted by the Editor in Chief for the following reasons. Following some concerns raised on PubPeer regarding a possible overlap in Figure 2A, the Editor in Chief has started an investigation to assess the validity of the results as well as possible figure manipulation. The journal investigation revealed a duplication in Figure 2A between BNIP1 panels, migration and invasion, respectively and in Control and invasion panels. Consequently, the Editor in Chief mistrusts the results presented and has decided to withdraw the article.
