Abstract:Following the publication of this paper, it was drawn to the Editor's attention by a concerned reader that the control GAPDH western blotting bands shown in Fig. 4H on p. 496 were strikingly similar to data that were submitted for publication in advance of this article in different form by different authors at different research institutes [Liu F, Bai C and Guo Z: The prognostic value of osteopontin in limited‑stage small cell lung cancer patients and its mechanism. Oncotarget 8: 70084‑70096, 2017]. A further independent investigation conducted in the Editorial Office revealed that other western blotting data were likely to have been shared in common, comparing between the two articles. Owing to the fact that the contentious data in the above article had already been submitted for publication prior to the submission of this article to Oncology Reports, the Editor has decided that this paper should be retracted from the Journal. After having been in contact with the authors, it was admitted that the authors Feng Chang, Jian-Na Liu and Jun-Xin Lin did not initially provide their agreement to be authors on this paper; otherwise, the rest of the authors accepted the decision to retract the paper. Abstract:Following the publication of this paper, it was drawn to the Editor's attention by a concerned reader that the flow cytometric data shown in Fig. 2D on p. 1675 had already been submitted in different form in the following paper written by different authors at different research institutes: Tian R, Li Y and Gao M: Shikonin causes cell‑cycle arrest and induces apoptosis by regulating the EGFR‑NF‑κB signalling pathway in human epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells. Biosci Rep 28: e00189, 2015. After having conducted an independent review of the data in this figure in the Editorial Office, the concerns of the reader were found to be validated. Therefore, since the contentious data in the above article had already been submitted for publication prior to its submission to International Journal of Oncology, the Editor has decided that this paper should be retracted from the Journal. The journal was initially contacted by the corresponding author to request the retraction of the article as the results were reportedly not reproducible post-publication.Further investigation by the journal revealed also that the author name Hailin Liu was added to the authorship without editorial approval, after the article was accepted by the handling Editor. Other authorship issues as well as data realiability issues with the article were further revealed by the institutional investigation: http://med.china.com.cn/content/pid/291148/tid/1013/iswap/1.Given the concerns raised regarding panels from Figure 3A and also the comments of Dr Elisabeth Bik regarding this article “This paper belongs to a set of over 400 papers (as per February 2020) that share very similar Western blots with tadpole-like shaped bands, the same background pattern, and striking similarities in title structures, paper layout, bar graph design, and - in a subset - flow cytometry panels”, the journal requested the authors to provide the raw data. However, the authors were not able to fulfil this request and therefore the Editor-in-Chief decided to retract the article.

Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, 21(2), 315-323. https://doi.org/10.1111/jcmm.12966 The above article, published online on 25 October 2016 in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by agreement between the journal Editor-in-Chief, Stefan Constantinescu; The Foundation for Cellular and Molecular Medicine and John Wiley and Sons Ltd. The retraction has been agreed upon following an investigation into concerns raised by a third party, which revealed inappropriate duplications of image panels (Figures 2D, 3, 4G, 6A and F) within the article and between this and other articles that were previously published or published shortly after in a different scientific context. The authors were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation and the provided raw data could not explain the identified issues, which has led the editors to lose confidence in the data presented. Therefore, the editors consider the conclusions substantially compromised and are retracting the paper. The co-author, J. Shen stated that they were not involved in this research and had no knowledge about its publication, and their correspondence email address was added without their consent. The authors, including Z. Li who submitted the manuscript, were informed of the decision to retract but did not respond to the retraction or the retraction wording.

Abstract:Following the publication of this article, a concerned reader has drawn to the Editor's attention that the western blotting data featured in Figs. 2D, 3B, 5A and 5C contained some strikingly similar protein bands, such that these data apparently originated from the same original source where the results from differently performed experiments were intended to have been portrayed; moreover, the GAPDH control western blotting data shown in Fig. 1B were strikingly similar to data that had already appeared in a number of previous publications written by different authors at different research institutes. Owing to the identification of the apparently overlapping protein bands in Figs. 2, 3 and 5, and given the fact that the contentious data in Fig. 1B of the above article had already been published prior to its submission to Oncology Letters , the Editor has decided that this paper should be retracted from the Journal. Abstract:The article "STAT5A reprograms fatty acid metabolism and promotes tumorigenesis of gastric cancer cells" by S.-R. Dong, X.-L. Ju, W.-Z. Yang, published in Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci 2019; 23 (19): 8360-8370 - PMID: 31646566 has been retracted by the Editor in Chief following the expression of concern published in May 2024, available at https://www.europeanreview.org/article/36273. Following concerns raised by third party and by readers on PubPeer (link: https://pubpeer.com/publications/2D2719EECB2A38AFB430AE920E0ADD), the Editor in Chief has started an investigation to assess the validity of the results as well as possible figure manipulation. The journal's investigation revealed duplications involving Figure 2F, Figure 3I, and Figure 4D with previously published articles (https://doi.org/10.18632/aging.102995 and https://doi.org/10.2147/DDDT.S151029). Additionally, a duplication was found between the GAPDH panels of MKN28 and AGS in Figure 3C. The authors have been informed about the journal's investigation but remained unresponsive and have not provided the study's raw data. Consequently, the Editor in Chief mistrusts the results presented and has decided to retract the article. This article has been retracted.
