Abstract:Aspects of regenerative heat exchange in a piston compressor are investigated. The most thermodynamically advantageous situation occurs when compression approaches an isothermal process. The heat balance equation, which compares the amount of heat released per piston compressor cycle and that removed through the outer surface of the working chamber, was used to develop a method for calculating heat absorbed by working chamber walls in a compressor depending on the duration of compressor operation. The developed procedure provided a basis for parametric analysis to determine the influence of the main operating parameters (pressure ratio in a stage, angular velocity of crankshaft rotation) on the final temperature and heating time of the walls. This procedure can be used for preliminarily estimating the operating time of a piston machine employing regenerative cooling in compressor mode.
