Abstract:Government research funds in China have been growing at an annual rate of more than 20%, exceeding even the expectations of China's most enthusiastic scientists. In theory, this could allow China to make truly outstanding progress in science and research, complementing the nation's economic success. In reality, however, rampant problems in research funding—some attributable to the system and others cultural—are slowing down China's potential pace of innovation.

Abstract:Chinese publishing science has its own theoretical origins and unique characteristics. Since 1970s, publishing as a science has grown up rapidly in China. This paper presents a structured overview of Chinese publishing research in its full historical depth and thematic breadth. It first introduces a brief history of publishing science in China, and then identifies the main characteristics and key areas of research. Consistent with the divide in social research, the debate between positivistic and naturalistic paradigms has also characterized the development of global publishing science. The interpretivist paradigm of Chinese publishing research leads to unique research subjects and methods. The subjects, on the one hand, are more focused on meta-theory. Theory building and integration has been the main goal in the past three decades. The methods, on the other hand, have been generally qualitative, including historical, interpretive, and critical analysis. Current key research areas include theoretical construction of publishing science, history of publishing, cultural studies of publishing, publishing economics, digital publishing and copyright. This paper also discusses the challenges facing publishing researchers in China and their possible solutions.

Abstract:Modern science has been potentially restricted by traditional ideas since it was introduced into China.The overemphasis on practicality somewhat distorted the spirit of science,Ge Wu Zhi Zhi(exploring things to acquire knowledge) promoted the emergence of scientism,and Zhi Guan Ti Yan(the idea of knowing something by intuition) resulted in pseudoscience and the encouragement of the examination-oriented education of science by imperial examination system.Understanding and reflecting on the potential impact of traditional ideas on modern Chinese scientific culture is an important prerequisite to ensure the healthy growth of modern scientific culture.

Abstract:There has been a remarkable event in the Chinese academia in the past months that deserves attention. China Association of Science and Technology (the largest S&T organization in China comprising more than 200 national member societies) and Peking University have jointly founded an 'Institute of Chinese Scientific Culture'. This was followed by the establishment in Peking University of a new department of 'History of Science, Technology and Medicine'. These institutions are marked by their unique cross-disciplinary nature in research and education that encompasses all areas of sciences and humanities, and their goal of nurturing a new brand of intellectuals that China urgently needs for future development in science and society.

Abstract:From the perspectives of current philosophy of science and sociology of science, this paper analyzes a science culture inherent in the different versions of history, Chinese, and physics textbooks in the 20th century. It claims that this sort of science culture should be reconsidered and consummated in the following aspects: with regard to the notion of science, and hypothesis should be taken as the most important parts of scientific activities. Meanwhile, it is necessary to clarify science as a sort of social institution. As for the values of science, these textbooks should clearly illustrate the negative and inherent values to students. In respect of science development, these textbooks must substitutehistory of science problems for history of science achievements or history of heroes, which emphasizes the vital role of science problems, debates and community in the process of science progress. At last, given the images of scientists, some professional virtues and qualities should be demonstrated sufficiently.

Abstract:Chinese culture has a long history and is one of the oldest ancient civilizations. In the course of thousands of years of development, the Chinese nation has created a rich and splendid Chinese culture. Chinese culture is the spiritual pillar for the long-term continuation and continuous development of the Chinese nation. The main spiritual core of Chinese culture is Confucian culture, which has been inherited for thousands of years. Confucian culture is the muscle and bone of Chinese culture. Meanwhile, Taoism, as a local religion, and Buddhism, which is integrated with society in the history of Chinese civilization for thousands of years. Chinese culture has been influenced by foreign cultures and embraces fine foreign cultures. The rapid development of national economy and the integration of global economy have accelerated the influence of foreign culture on China. Media and business hype, promote the "foreign festival" is heating up, behind which is mainly huge commercial profits; It is also inevitable that the Chinese people begin to lead a rich life and pursue a rich and colorful spiritual life. Abstract:Western Political science cannot adequately address China’s development in the twenty-first century. The inadequacy is due to a general neglect of historical methods and an obsession with progressive views in the discipline. As a result, the study of China’s political culture is torn away from Chinese history and loses itself to become another version of modernization thesis. This article calls for the application of a historical politics approach and a poly-chronic view of history to the study of China’s political culture. The article examines four potential core value components of China’s political culture, namely the quest for great unification, the preference for political order, the orientation towards substance, and the deference to authority and hierarchy. Results show that those values have historical continuity and China-specificity thereby demonstrating the value of the historical politics perspective.

Abstract:Traditional Chinese culture covers a variety of ethical principles and behavioral norms that have arisen from thousands of years of Chinese social life to handle interpersonal relationships in an appropriate way. Such principles and norms are a typical expression of Chinese people's wisdom in the analysis of their surroundings. However, traditional Chinese culture also contains some poisonous thinking that has been carefully nurtured by feudal rulers to maintain their power. In the practice of the great social changes of pre-1949 China, after repeated experience, people gained a relatively clear and comprehensive understanding of traditional Chinese culture: it should neither be totally affirmed nor totally rejected. Rather, we should analyze it concretely, endeavoring to separate the dross from the essence. In late Qing and Republican China, traditional culture was continuously handed on and renewed, and this process will be carried on and on.

China’s recent revival of its traditional culture, previously denounced by the Communist Party of China (CPC), has caused diverse academic concerns. Yet few studies have addressed how the CPC-led state interacts with domestic actors in cultivating students’ national identity with a previously denounced culture, and what paradoxes lie therein. Documentary review shows that in the process, the state is concerned about creating a consensus around providing traditional Chinese culture (TCC) education, and about maintaining its defining role in designing the project, especially when interacting with diverse actors who had different interests in TCC education.</p>

Abstract:Abstract The human social development saw the formation of five unique civilizations, with the latter forming their own distinctive cultures. China’s traditional culture is its most fundamental ideological weapon for solving problems. The Chinese are good at comprehensive thinking, dialectical thinking, and systematic analysis. These ideological weapons can solve the problems of formal science and technology and create scientific and technological achievements on par with global advanced scale. Ancient China is filled with original scientific and technological achievements, which strongly prove ancient China’s possession of its own science and technology different from that of Western Renaissance. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of science, technology, experience, and intuition is necessary. The long-held superstition regarding the West, the lack of confidence, self-denial, blind imitation of ideas, and shackles must be thrown away. Only then can we take the road toward an authentic Chinese creative design as we learn from others.

Abstract:The research is aimed at s tudying the works of Chinese authors on the influence of globalism on Chinese culture. Aim. To identify the peculiarities of the interpretation of Chinese researchers of the influence of modern global processes on traditional Chinese culture. Tasks. To determine the techniques used by Chinese authors in the interpretation of globalization and its impact on traditional Chinese culture. Methods . Historical, political, and sociological research methods were used to determine the specifics of the Chinese understanding of global processes and their impact on culture. Results. Chinese researchers adhere to the position that explains that diversity and the unity of culture are two inseparable aspects of the development of cultural diversity in the modern world. Therefore, in the context of globalization, it is necessary not only to adhere to the principle of the unity of culture as a universal phenomenon, but also to increase tolerance for cultural diversity, based on the principle of preserving each original culture, which, to varying degrees, are today affected by globalization processes. Conclusions. For Chinese researchers in the context of globalization, the problem of cultural diversity, firstly, is an important universal factor that must be preserved. Secondly, the diversity of cultures is a condition for preserving one’s own, Chinese traditional culture. Thirdly, traditional Chinese culture in modern China has become a new ideology in state administration, which contributes to the modernization of the country. Fourth, the preservation and development of traditional Chinese culture has a positive effect on China’s rapid economic growth.

Abstract:Historiography places great emphasis on making distinctions.This sets it apart from most Social Sciences,which mainly seek synthesis.Therefore,historical research does not lend itself to grand summations,but rather to thorough understanding.However,making distinctions is not merely paying attention to the particular.Rather,it places even more weight on the whole in order to study the particular in light of the whole and seek out the pervasive links between individual cases.The thorough understanding of modern Chinese history not only needs to link ancient and modern,Chinese and foreign,but also needs to bridge all fields of study.However,in recent years historiography,which originally ought to be an integrated body of knowledge,has been continuously fragmented by the great variety of historical data and the pressures of departmental teaching and research agendas.Specialization is all the fashion,and reading is just a tool for professional development.When inappropriate standards of academic exchange and evaluation are added into the mix,together with a tendency to "trim our feet to fit our shoes" and "cut our suits without measuring our figures," the result is deepening scholarly turmoil.Only by returning to historiography's original principles,by grasping its system of knowledge and the origins and evolutions of its various divisions,by distilling the complex down to the simple,by reading widely and with open minds,by gaining new knowledge through reviewing what we know,by freeing our research of departmental prejudices and restrictions,and by following a well-thought-out plan,will we be able to do research with skill and ease and avoid mistaking the partial for the whole.
