Abstract:Experimental modal analysis of a turbine disk was conducted with the hammering method. The first five modals were obtained, matches well with calculation results of ANSYS, and proves the effectiveness of the experiment, provides a reference for further improvement of a certain engine.

Abstract:In the process of model testing,the difference of discrete modeling methods will impact the accuracy of analysis result.This paper describes a modal analysis approach of a curved and twisted blade using a test bed based on experiment modal analysis method.Through the contrast tests,the influence of the discrete modeling method upon the model testing result is investigated from the authenticity of the mode of vibration,the distinguish ability of the mode of vibration,the error size,and the testing time.The research results show that the more the test model is similar to the real shape of the blade,the higher the fidelity of the model shape is,but the test model hardly impacts the natural frequency of vibration.On the other hand,choosing a reasonable discrete element number will decrease the error size on the basis of ensuring the distinguish ability of the mode shape.The conclusion of this research provides guidance for turbine blade modal testing with the determination of the test model and discrete element number.

Abstract:Basic theories, model and computational process of topological optimization of finite element about steam turbine blade based on the modal analysis were put forward for the reason to the fatigued crackle of blade. Analyzing of data from 300MW steam turbine’s low pressure casing of turbo-blade showed that the method of topological optimization of the finite element can offer the important theoretical basis to structural design of steam turbine blade.

Abstract:Finite element method was used to make the prestressed modal analysis for some kind of different hydraulic muffler structures. The muffler was redesigned according to the first ten order natural frequencies gotten by the prestressed modal analysis. The results indicate that the natural frequency of the improved structure is far more than fluid pulse frequency,so the resonation is more un-likely to happen. The results provide basis for further acoustic analysis and design improvement of muffler.

Abstract:Through simulations with fluid finite element software Fluent,structural parameters for a turbine damper were obtained to meet the requirements of an arresting net recovery system of a certain unmanned aerial vehicle.Then,the turbine damper was designed and manufactured based on the simulation results.The dynamic cushioning property of the turbine damper was tested with instantaneous impact experiments.Results showed that the numerical simulation of the turbine damper is right and its cushioning capacity meets the requirements of the arresting net recovery system of a certain unmanned aerial vehicle.

Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics

Abstract:This article presents a study on applying the fracture mechanics-based method to predict the fatigue crack growth (FCG) characteristics of the turbine disc in a turboshaft engine. According to the stress analysis results, the electric discharge machining (EDM) method introduced notches for initiating cracks of a specific size into the critical locations of the turbine disc. The FCG of these cracks under cyclic load was predicted utilising a three-dimensional (3D) numerical analysis method and a simplified rectangular plate model with relevant fracture mechanics properties. Meanwhile, the full-scale spin test was performed using a pre-flawed turbine disc under intentional loads at an isothermal temperature. After the test, the crack surface fractography and the quantitative fracture striation analysis revealed the practical crack propagation behaviour. There was a relatively small difference between the experimental results and the 3D finite element method, which indicated the good pre-dictability of FEM for turbine disc crack growth. Furthermore, the rectangular plate models could predict the front stage of steady-state crack growth but were overall conservative due to their inability to precisely calculate the effects of crack growth and structure geometry on the stress intensity factor.

Abstract:On the basis of establishing the finite element model for turbine′s diaphragm, and determining restraint-and load-boundary conditions, calculation and analysis of diaphragm′s strength for nozzle No.8 of a 600MW steam turbine have been carried out. The established model can basically represent the mechanical condition of turbine′s diaphragm, and the result of calculation tallies well with the report in related literature and experimental results.

Abstract:By using the fundamental theory of modal analysis, the method of modal measurement is presented and the way to measure the modal parameters of twisted blade in low-pressure stage of 300 MW turbines is given. Comparing the modal result with the finite element result, the self-oscillation frequencies and modes are almost same,so the modal measurement provides the way how to get and analysis self-oscillation frequency and mode of twisted blade.

Abstract:Advances in Mechanical Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2022. The coupled vibration in the turbine disk-blade system (TDS) is one of the main bottlenecks that hinder the further development of high-performance engines. To analyze the vibration of the TDS, three types of contact conditions, involving bonded, frictionless, or frictional were used to simulate the contact between the turbine disk and the blades. Three finite element analysis (FEA) models of a typical TDS based on the tenon structure were developed. The experimental system was developed and experimental modal analysis (EMA) was performed. According to the comparison between FEA and EMA results, the most accurate model is the frictional contact FEA model. The average error of the frictional contact FEA model is 1.42%, and the root mean square error is 0.75%. The working modes of the TDS at different speeds were calculated using the frictional contact FEA model. Meanwhile, based on the newly developed FEA model, it is found that the weak links in the TDS are the blades. This work can provide a theoretical basis for the TDS structure optimization and promote the development of high-quality aero-engines.

Abstract:3-D models of the rotor system of a micro-gas turbine engine were built by using the commercial software Catia. The Stress of the rotational parts were analyzed basing on finite element method,and the participation of stress at the max power condition was obtained. Modal frequencies and shapes were obtained through modal analysis of the rotor system. The results will be the theoretical evidence to guarantee the engine running safely.

Abstract:The Top-pressure Recovery Turbine (TRT) uses the blast furnace gas generated in the iron and steel manufacturing process to push the turbine which drives the generator to generate electricity, and the generated electric energy is supplied to in-plant equipment. In this paper, we investigate the aerodynamic force, centrifugal force, and maximum stress on the structure of the TRT rotor in rated working conditions and the positions of occurrence using the Finite Element Method (FEM), as well as discuss the dynamic characteristics of bladed disks during TRT operation through Campbell and SAFE diagrams. To confirm the effectiveness of the finite element models, the mode shapes and natural frequencies in the FEA-based modal analysis of the TRT rotor will be captured and compared with those of the practical structures through the Experimented Modal Analysis (EMA). To verify the agreement between the mode shapes of the finite element analysis and those of the actual structure, the Modal Assurance Criterion (MAC) is introduced here to confirm the reliability of the finite element model. The stress distribution on the structure in the rotation is obtained by centrifugal force analysis. The TRT rotor is driven as the blast furnace top pressure pushes the moving blade; when the rotor rotates, the moving blade bears centrifugal and periodic aerodynamic forces. The stress distribution is investigated on the structure when these forces act simultaneously using aerodynamic analysis. To discuss whether the bladed disks will resonate with the external force under the operating conditions, Campbell and SAFE diagrams are used for evaluation, and the modal parameters obtained from the EMA are used to estimate the strength and durability of the blades. According to the analysis results when the TRT rotor is in working conditions, the fatigue failure may occur at the maximum stress existing on the dovetail slot.

Abstract:Based on the modal analysis theory and the requirements of the codes, some research work about the dynamic behavior of 600MW turbine-dynamotor frame foundation 1∶10 model in a powerstation was done . More practical dynamic character values were obtained from factual data by 3D modal analysis of white noise random excitation method. The feasibility of theoretic analysis model is proved by the comparison with computational results of ANSYS. The research results will afford reference to developing the design principle and optimized dynamic design method of turbine-dynamotorframe foundation.
Application of improved hybrid interface substructure cms method in the modal analysis of mistuned bladed disk assemblies

Abstract:To improve the efficiency of modal analysis for aeroengines of ensured computational accuracy,an improved hybrid interface substructure component modal synthesis (CMS) method is proposed to avoid massive calculation in traditional methods when the substructure is composited.The comprehensive model is further simplified and duel coordination conditions of displacement and force are introduced to ensure the accuracy of the calculation.The parametric model of the assembled structure of blades and disks is constructed to set up finite element models for each substructure,which are then synthesized using the coordination conditions of displacement and force to obtain modal frequencies.Compared with the overall structure finite element model,the computational time is reduced by 23.86％～35.74％,and the modal deviation is less than 0.57％,while the computational time was reduced by only 14.63％～29.20％ and the modal deviation was less than 0.49％ for traditional methods.Therefore,under the same working environment and to achieve the same level of computational accuracy,the proposed method is much more efficient than traditional methods,especially in the high order modal solution procedure.This study lays a solid foundation for further research on the dynamic responses of composite structures of the mistuned bladed disk assemblies for aeroengines.

Abstract:Modal analysis of the 1200 MW turbo-generator stator end windings are performed by finite element method. The composite conical ring structure of the stator is made up of orthotropic material. The equivalent stiffness between the positioning bracket and the conical ring is obtained based on the statics contact analysis. Later on, the homogenization equivalent model of the bar-colloid structure is established by optimization analysis method. The whole finite element model is formed by integrating all the components and its modal simulation result is verified by experimental modal analysis. The sensitivity of the first-order modal frequency to the material parameters and geometric parameters is provided. The key factors that influence the modals of the stator end of the turbo-generator are clearly defined, which provides guidance for the design of the stator end windings.

Abstract:The central rod-fastened rotor of gas turbine exhibits pronounced noncontinuous characteristics due to the large number of contact interfaces between the compressor and turbine disks. It is necessary to establish an accurate dynamic modeling method for the central rod-fastened rotor that fully considers the contact surface effect. In this work, the contact behavior of the rough surface is characterized by the fractal theory. The normal and tangential contact stiffness models are developed, and the influence of fractal parameters is discussed. Besides, the finite element model for the central rod-fastened rotor is established by developing an improved contact element considering the equivalent stiffness segment of Hirth couplings. Finally, the proposed model is verified by conducting the modal testing and measuring the first four modes of natural frequencies and modal shapes of the central rod-fastened rotor. The results show that the numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental ones, and the fractal contact model can effectively predict the connection stiffness of Hirth couplings, which in turn improves the simulation accuracy for the modal characteristics of the central rod-fastened rotor and provides a dynamic modeling approach with high efficiency and less computational complexity.

Abstract:Turbine blades are one of the key components in a typical turbofan engine, which plays an important role in flight safety. In this paper, we establish a establishes a three-dimensional finite element model of the turbine blades, then analyses the strength of the blade in complicated conditions under the joint function of temperature load, centrifugal load, and aerodynamic load. Furthermore, contact analysis of blade tenon and dovetail slot is also carried out to study the stress based on the contact elements. Finally, the Von Mises stress-strain distributions are obtained to acquire the several dangerous points and maximum Von Mises stress, which provide the basis for life prediction of turbine blade.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel and efficient modal analysis method is raised to work on blisk structures based on mixed-dimension finite element model (MDFEM). The blade and the disk are modeled separately. The blade model is figured by 3D solid elements considering its complex configuration and its degrees-of-freedom (DOFs) are condensed by dynamic substructural method. Meanwhile, the disk is structured by 2D axisymmetric element developed specially in this paper. The DOFs of entire blisk are tremendously reduced by this modeling approach. The key idea of this method is derivation of displacement compatibility to different dimensional models. Mechanical energy equivalence and summation further contribute to the model synthesis and modal analysis of blade and disk. This method has been successfully applied on the modal analysis of blisk structures in turbine, which reveals its effectiveness and proves that this method reduces the computational time expenses while maintaining the precision performances of full 3D model. Though there is limitation that structure should have proper coverage of blades, this method is still feasible for most blisks in engineering practice.

Abstract:As the support structure of wind turbine, the tower bears alternating loads of wind when the wind turbine runs. To ensure the reliability of the wind turbine, it's necessary to carry out modal analysis on the tower, and this would prevent the natural frequency of the tower close to the rated speed of wind turbine. In this paper, finite element analysis of the tower is solved using ANSYS, and the natural frequencies and modes of the tower are presented. After comparing the results of three models, a simple model for modal analysis, which can be calculated in short time, is finally determined.

Abstract:The impact of fluid-thermo-structure coupling to the model of turbine is researched. The k-ε model is used to predict the flow field of turbine. By solving the flow field based on fluid-thermo-structure coupling, the distributions of temperature and pressure are calculated, and then, the temperature and pressure load are interpolated to the surface of turbine. Modal analysis of turbine is simulated by using this method. Calculation results show that the fluid-thermo-structure coupling field has an influence mainly on the modal frequencies of the turbine, and less on its modal shapes.

Abstract:Because a pump-turbine mainly undertakes the role of energy conversion and pumped storage in the field of hydropower engineering, the complex transition process and frequent conversion between different working conditions lead to the increase in the stress and strain of core components such as the unit shaft system, and even cause resonance phenomena. Based on ANSYS finite element numerical calculation software, this paper adopts the acoustic fluid–structure coupling method to study the influence of the shaft of the pump-turbine on the dynamic characteristics of the runner. At the same time, the paper analyses the influence of different contact modes between the runner and the shaft on the modal characteristics of the shaft system. The numerical simulation results have shown that the runner is affected by the added mass of the water. The natural frequency reduction rate of each order of wet modal is ranged from 19% to 64%. The main shaft has a greater influence on the simplification of the shaft system calculation method. The type of contact surface between the main shaft and the runner has a smaller influence on the modal characteristics and the natural frequency of the shaft system. The research in this paper contributes an evaluation of the dynamic characteristics of the runner of a hydraulic turbine unit, which is of great significance for the optimization of the analysis algorithm of the runner structure for large pumped storage units.
