Abstract:The main objective of the proposed work is to investigate the structural properties of zinc titanates ceramics obtained by solid state reaction. The powders of composition (98 mol% ZnO + 2 mol% TiO2) were mechanically milled for 3 h in high energy planetary ball mill under argon atmosphere. After, the ball milled powders were calcined at 900°C for 2 h, pressed into pellets and then sintered for 4 h at 1100°C in air. The microstructural transformations were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Raman scattering spectroscopy. The X-ray results exhibit a composite structure where about a small amount of rutile nanograins are dispersed into the ZnO matrix and a formation of a cubic inverse spinel Zn2TiO4. Raman and FTIR results confirm the multiphase character of the sintered pellets.
