Abstract:Hexavalent chromium-containing electroplating wastewater was treated by barium salt precipitation. The effects of pH pre-adjustment of wastewater, cyanide decomposition method, and addition of Cr(VI) precipitator on the removal of hexavalent chromium, total chromium, copper, and nickel were studied. The influence of the dosage of sulfuric acid on the recovery of hexavalent chromium was examined. The optimal process parameters for treatment of hexavalent chromium-containing electroplating wastewater by barium salt precipitation are as follows:pre-adjusted pH 8, barium salt dosage 2.5 times of the theoretical value, cyanide decomposition with hydrogen peroxide, and final pH 10 adjusted with liquid caustic soda. After treating under the optimal process conditions, the total chromium content and nickel content in effluent is 0.4 mg/L and 0.3 mg/L, and no copper is detected, all of which are below the emission limits of Table 2 in the GB 21900–2008 standard. The recovery of hexavalent chromium in barium chromate sediment reaches 65% by solid–solid transformation using sulfuric acid. The costs for reagent and treatment of hazardous solid waste by barium salt precipitation are higher than those of traditional chemical reduction. Barium salt precipitation is suitable for professional chrome plating factories and plating industrial parks where chromium wastewater is strictly discharged and collected individually.

Abstract:Based on the intermolecular modification of 1,3-[(2,4-diethylheptylethoxy)oxy]-2,4-crown-6-calix[4] arene (Calix[4]) with 4,4',(5')-di(t-butylcyclohexano)-18-crown-6 (DBC), a hybridized macroporous silica-based supramolecular recognition material, Calix[4]@DBC/SiO2-P, was prepared. The agents were impregnated and immobilized into the pores of the SiO2-P particles support. The adsorption of Cs(I), Sr(II), and some typical coexistent metals onto Calix[4]@DBC/SiO2-P was investigated. The influence of contact time and HNO3 concentration in the range of 0.4-6.0 M was studied. Calix[4]@DBC/SiO2-P exhibited high adsorption ability and selectivity for Sr(II) and Cs(I) except for Rb(I) and BA(II). The simultaneous partitioning of Cs(I) and Sr(II) from a simulated highly active liquid waste was performed by Calix[4]@DBC/ SiO2-P packed column. They were effectively eluted with water and flowed into effluent along with Rb(I) and Ba(II), while others showed no adverse impact. A new separation process, GPSC (Group Partitioning of Strontium and Cesium by Extraction Chromatography), for the separation of Cs(I) and Sr(II) was proposed. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. Selective Complex Precipitation for Ferro-Chrome Separation From Electroplating Sludge Leaching Solution

Abstract:In this paper, aiming at the problem of chrome-iron separation in electroplating sludge, the separation of ferrochrome by complexation and precipitation with benzoic acid as complexing agent is achieved. The optimal conditions consisted of a 1: 3 molar ratio of Fe 3+ : C 6 H 5 COOH, a reaction temperature of 30°C, a final pH of 2.5 and a reaction time of 2 min. The separation rate of the iron was 97.38% and the rate of loss of chromium was only 3.59%. The ferrochromium separation products were analyzed by XRD, fluorescence spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and H NMR Spectroscopy in order to study the mechanism of precipitation. The results showed that benzoic acid preferentially forms a complex with iron and iron benzoate precipitates with an increase pH. The iron benzoate crystals have a fine particle size, settle rapidly and are easy to filter. The separation of Cr 3+ /Fe 3+ was successful using our methodology.

Abstract:The extremely similar physicochemical properties of vanadium and chromium lead to the difficulty in separating from each other. In this study, a novel hydrometallurgical process was devised to selectively precipitate chromium from vanadium-containing solutions, facilitating the efficient separation of V(V) and Cr(VI) while enabling the recovery of both vanadium and chromium species. The speciation of vanadium and chromium in solutions was investigated through the construction of E-pH diagrams for V-Cr-S-H 2 O system at 298 K, 363 K, and 453 K. The results revealed that under conditions of pH approximately 12 and temperature 363 K, the reduction potential of SO 4 2- /S 2- was found to lie between that of CrO 4 2- /Cr(OH) 3 and VO 4 3- /V 2 O 3 . This suggests that selective reduction of Cr(VI) could be achieved using S 2- as reducing agent. In order to validate the theoretical findings, single-factor experiments were conducted on a laboratory scale. The effects of various parameters including initial pH, sodium sulfide dosage, reaction time, temperature, and initial concentration of vanadium-containing solutions on the chromium precipitation ratio and vanadium loss ratio were investigated. The experimental outcomes showed that the chromium precipitation ratio reached 99.8 % while the vanadium loss rate was only 3.5 % when the experiment was conducted at the optimal conditions: the initial pH was set to 12, sodium sulfide dosage was 2.0 times of the theoretical dosage, reaction time was 60 min and the temperature was 363 K. Then, the chromium concentration in the solution decreased from 2407 mg/L to 3.3 mg/L. Ultimately, V 2 O 5 with a purity of 99.0 % and Cr 2 O 3 with a purity of 97.2 % were successfully obtained.

Abstract:The accumulation of barium slag (Bs) not only presents significant environmental challenges but also results in the inefficient utilization of resources. The present study investigates the scientific problems of hydrometallurgical methods for converting compounds containing barium in Bs into desired barium salts, with a specific focus on acid treatment, flocculation and precipitation of soluble barium from the leaching solution, as well as heavy media separation in the Bs residue. The experimental findings demonstrate that over 98.5% of the compounds containing barium undergo successful conversion into BaCO3 and BaSO4, achieving high purities of 98.7% and 79.4%, respectively. A crucial aspect of the mechanism lies in the interaction among ions, which facilitates the conversion of compounds containing barium into the desired barium salts. Additionally, the utilization of flocculants significantly enhances the efficiency and rate of flocculation for the BaCO3 turbid fluid, wherein PAM and C-PAM exhibit superior effects in comparison to A-PAM. The reduction in the thickness of the electrical double layer, achieved through the application of flocculants, plays a pivotal role in expediting particle precipitation. Moreover, thermodynamic analysis illuminates the energy changes and the transformation processes during the recovery of barium from Bs. The study concludes by presenting a strategy for cleaner production to recover desired barium salts with Bs.

Abstract:Recycling treatment of wastewater containing hexavalent chromium [Cr (VI)] has always been an important environmental issue. In this paper, taking advantage of the natural affinity of CrO42− and lead ions, lead carbonate was selected as a precipitant to recover Cr (VI) in the form of chrome yellow (PbCrO4). Firstly, the variation of Cr (VI) and lead species in K+-CrO42−-Pb2+-CO32− solution system with pH and PbCO3 dosage was calculated by Visual MINTEQ. The results show that the treatment effect is better under acidic conditions. Then, the effects of parameters on the removal rate of Cr, including the initial pH of solution, reaction time, reaction temperature, and the dosage of lead carbonate, were studied by batch experiments. Results show that the initial pH of solution, reaction time, and the dosage of lead carbonate have great influence, whereas reaction temperature has slight influence. And the concentration of Cr (VI) could be reduced from 100 mg/L to 0.043 mg/L at an initial pH of 3, a reaction time of 45 min, and the dosage of lead carbonate as n(PbCO3)/n(K2CrO4) = 2. The precipitates are analyzed by XRD, SEM, and EDS,and the results are consistent with the predictions of Visual MINTEQ, that is, the newly produced substance is only PbCrO4. The reaction mechanism of Cr (VI) on the surface of lead carbonate was studied by the adsorption kinetic model, and the results showed that the reaction was more fit with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that CrO42− could effectively react with lead atoms with unsaturated coordination bonds on the surface of lead carbonate and free lead ions leached from the surface of lead carbonate to form lead chromate. Under acidic conditions, the removal of Cr (VI) by PbCO3 may involve two main mechanisms: the mineralization and precipitation of lead and chromate ions dissolved from the surface of cerussite and the chemical adsorption of chromate ions on the surface of cerussite. This study provides a new and efficient strategy for the resource treatment of Cr (VI)-containing wastewater.

Abstract:High-speed countercurrent chromatography is a recently developed separation method that has been remarkably improved in both separating efficiency and separation time. In this paper, this advanced countercurrent chromatographic method was applied to the separation of lanthanides. In combination with the measurement of the partition coefficient of lanthanides, a suitable solvent system was chosen. The separation of a mixture containing the trivalent lanthanides La, Ce, Pr and Nd was performed with 0.15M P-507(2-ethythexyl-2-ethylhexyl hydrogen phosphate) chloroform : hydrochloric acid, pH=2.93, (1:1, V/V) solvent system. The resolution of adjacent bands was enhanced with increasing rotational speed, and was reduced with increasing flow rate of the mobile phase. This enhancement resulted from an increasing number of theoretical plates. Mutual separation of adjacent lanthanides was accomplished with adequate resolution.

Abstract:How to effectively and environmentally purify chromate solutions containing impurities such as silicon and vanadium, and avoid the generation of Cr(VI)-containing residues are important issues to be solved urgently. Herein, a novel Cr 2 O 3 ∙2.7H 2 O adsorbent with stable three-dimensional nanoflower structure was fabricated using the hydrothermal method, which was successfully implemented in the removal of Si(IV) and V(V) from dichromate system. Batch adsorption experiments revealed that the saturated adsorption capacity of Si(IV) was 140.06 mg/g at pH 9 and 132.98 mg/g V(V) at pH 2. Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that V(V) anionic species exhibited high adsorption energies (−990.70 kJ/mol, −697.10 kJ/mol) and small adsorption distances from the β-CrOOH(012) (≈1.89 Å, 1.98 Å), verifying the selective adsorption of Cr 2 O 3 ∙2.7H 2 O on V(V) in Cr(VI)–Si(IV)–V(V) ternary systems. The integrated mechanisms of electrostatic interaction, coordination, polymerization and precipitation for the removal behaviors were proposed via FT-IR, XPS and DFT calculations. In the real Na 2 Cr 2 O 7 complex solutions, the simultaneous removal rates of 88.48% Si(IV) and 80% V(V) were achieved, with optimal adsorption conditions at a pH of 8 and a temperature of 333 K. Furthermore, the desorbed Cr 2 O 3 ∙2.7H 2 O can be effectively converted into high-value nano Cr 2 O 3 , indicating the potential of this new green adsorbent. Therefore, this study not only imparts theoretical and practical insights into the purification of chromate solutions but also contributes to the advancement of cleaner chromium compound production by facilitating the high-value conversion of the adsorbent.

Abstract:Due to the fact that the presence of aluminum in the leaching solutions of the ionic rare-earth ore adversely affects the subsequent extraction and separation of the REES (rare-earth elements), the aluminum must be reduced as soon as possible. Previously, organic substances with functional groups of carboxyl, hydroxyl, and amino, which can form stable and insoluble water complexes with aluminum ions in aqueous solutions under certain conditions, have been studied. This study used 8-hydroxyquinoline as the selective complexing precipitant for the purpose of complexing and precipitating aluminum in a rare-earth leaching solution. The results revealed that, when the amount of 8-hydroxyquinoline was 1.25 times that of the theoretical reaction amount; the reaction time was ten minutes; reaction temperature was 60 degrees C; and final pH of the solution was 4.5, then the Al3+ removal reached 94.39%, and the RE3+ loss was only 8.21%. Additionally, the obtained 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum was found to have the advantages of a rapid precipitation rate, large crystal particles, and small entrainment losses, and filtration had been easily completed. In addition, the characteristics of the obtained 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum would allow it to be used as photoelectric material with a high market value.

Abstract:In hydrometallurgy, precipitation would be easier and simpler than solvent extraction as a separation operation. In this work, the separation performance of Co(II), Mn(II) and Ni(II) by oxidative precipitation was investigated. For this purpose, NaClO was employed as an oxidizing agent and the separation behavior of the three ions was compared between chloride and sulfate solutions by varying some factors such as the dosage of NaClO, solution pH and reaction temperature. By controlling the molar ratio of NaClO to Mn(II), manganese ions(II) were easily separated as MnO2 by oxidative precipitation from both chloride and sulfate solutions. At the same experimental conditions, precipitation percentage of Co(II) from chloride solution was higher than that from sulfate solution, which can be ascribed to the stronger tendency of Co(II) to form complexes with chloride ion than with sulfate ions. Addition of NaCl to sulfate solution and oxidative precipitation at high temperature enhanced the precipitation percentage of Co2O3 and thus separation degree between Co(II) and Ni(II) was improved. Under the optimum conditions, MnO2 and Co2O3 powders with 99.9% purity were completely recovered by oxidative precipitation from chloride solution. By contrast, the purities of the MnO2 and Co2O3 thus recovered from sulfate solution were only 76 and 91%, respectively. Our results indicated that chloride solution would be more effective than sulfate solution in separating Mn(II) and Co(II) by oxidative precipitation with NaClO. Therefore, the use of chloride-based leaching solutions such as HCl and FeCl3 might be better for the leaching medium of spent lithium-ion batteries.

Removal of Sulfate Ions from Calcium Oxide Precipitation Enrichment of a Rare Earth Leaching Liquor by Stirring Washing with Sodium Hydroxide

Abstract:The use of calcium oxide as a precipitant can achieve a nonammonia enrichment of a rare earth leaching liquor. However, an alkaline rare earth sulfate forms during the precipitation process, thus resulting in excessive SO42– content in the mixed rare earth oxides. Therefore, a stirring washing process for precipitation enrichment, which was obtained from calcium oxide precipitation, was investigated using a sodium hydroxide solution. It was determined that the Gibbs free energy of the stirring washing reaction, which was calculated by a group contribution method, was between −60 and −300 kJ/mol, depending on the different rare earth elements. The above results indicated that the reaction was thermodynamically feasible. The optimum conditions of the washing process were obtained, namely, a feed ratio of 2.85, a liquid–solid ratio of 6.5 mL/g, a stirring washing temperature of 35 °C, and a stirring washing time of 20 min. Under the optimal conditions, the purity and the SO42– content of the mixed rare earth oxides were 94.38% and 3.48%, respectively, and the stirring washing process with the sodium hydroxide solution had good recyclability. Moreover, the washing product was tested using thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS), which verified that the stirring washing process with NaOH could effectively remove SO42– from the precipitation enrichment into solution. On this basis, a new extraction process of the ion-adsorption-type rare earth ore by magnesium salt leaching–calcium oxide precipitation–sodium hydroxide stirring washing is proposed. This new process can eliminate the traditional aluminum-removal process and effectively reduces the rare earth loss in the process. It can also solve the problem of the excessive SO42– content in the mixed rare earth oxides caused by the calcium oxide precipitation process. The research in this paper can have great significance for green, efficient extraction of the ion-adsorption-type rare earth ore and the improvement of resource utilization.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Reclaimable adsorbents have an essential role in removing radionuclides from waste streams. Herein, zinc ferrite-humic acid ZFO/HA nanocomposite was synthesized for effective cesium and barium adsorption. The prepared ZFO/HA nanocomposite was analyzed using analytical techniques including XRD, FTIR, EDX, and SEM. From kinetic studies, the mechanism adsorption process follows the second model. The isotherm studies clarified that the Langmuir model fit the adsorption of both ions onto the prepared sample, and the monolayer capacities are equal to 63.33 mg/g and 42.55 mg/g for Ba(II) and Cs(I), respectively. The temperature parameter was also studied, and the adsorption reaction was spontaneous and endothermic. The maximum separation between two ions was achieved at pH 5 (αCs/Ba = 3.3).
Chromium speciation in tannery effluent after alkaline precipitation: Isolation and characterization.

Abstract:It is difficult to completely remove Cr(III) from tannery effluent by alkaline precipitation due to the abundance of strong organic ligands. Thereby, the speciation of the residual Cr after alkaline precipitation is of crucial significance to guide the selection and design of further treatment process. For the first time, we revealed the speciation of the residual Cr with the aid of comprehensive analytical techniques. Results showed that the residual Cr(III) mostly located in two size ranges, i.e. the 13-100nm fraction and the <4nm fraction. Combined spectral analyses demonstrated Cr(III) was coordinated by carboxyl groups or hydroxyl groups in both fractions, while the complexation by nitrogen-containing groups was excluded by the total nitrogen and UPLC-MS analysis in the two fractions, respectively. Based on the comprehensive analyses, the structures of Cr(III) complexes in both fractions were proposed. Cr(III) cross-linked the carboxyl groups from polyacrylic acid chains to form the network gel structure in the 13-100nm fraction, while the complex structure of Cr(III) in the <4nm fraction was formed through hydroxyl-carboxyl chelation by masking agents such as tartrate and citrate. Although polyoxyethylene ether was abundantly present, it was responsible for the complexation of Cr(III) in neither fraction.
Lead removal from tin chloride solution by barium sulfate and coprecipitation of (BaxPby)(SO4)2 for the processing of Pb Sn smelter slag

Abstract:Owing to the characteristics of mineral paragenesis (equilibrium sequence of mineral phases), the hydrochloric acid leach liquors of Sn ores and Sn-containing waste materials typically contain large amounts of Pb. In this study, barium sulfate coprecipitation was employed to efficiently remove Pb from a tin chloride solution. The lead removal efficiency, reaction mechanism, and limitations were investigated by varying the Cl− and SO4 2− concentrations. The results showed that the structural formula of the precipitates was (BaxPby)(SO4)2 (x + y = 2), and its solubility product was in the range of 1 × 10−12–1 × 10−13, indicating that Pb2+ and Ba2+ were more easily precipitated in the form of complex salts. In addition, thermodynamic analysis revealed that when the Cl− concentration was <1 mol/L in the Pb2+–Sn2+–Cl−–H2O system, [Pb2+] and [PbCl+] were the primary species. These positively charged species were readily adsorbed onto the surface of BaSO4 via electrostatic forces, resulting in a significant increase in the Pb content of (BaxPby)(SO4)2. Therefore, the Pb removal efficiency significantly improved as Cl− concentration decreased. The lead removal mechanism involves a combination of adsorption and replacement processes. Based on the aforementioned fundamental study, a method involving dechlorination and coprecipitation was proposed to remove lead from an acid leaching solution of Kaldo slag. With the dechlorination via distillation, the Pb removal efficiency could reach 99.9% at 1 mol/L Cl− and 0.5 mol/L SO4 2−.

Abstract:Spent carbon cathode (SCC), a hazardous waste from aluminum electrolysis industry, has been confirmed that it can be direct treated and purified by hydrothermal acid leaching in the previous study. This work focuses on a hydrometallurgical process to separate and recover the valuable elements from the acid leachate of SCC by fractional precipitation method. Thermodynamic calculation, single factor experiment and characterization of the products are utilized to obtain the ion-transformation mechanism, optimize the conditions of process and confirm the physicochemical properties of the products. The results indicate that 92.6 % Si, 93.07 % Al and more than 99 % Fe, Ca are recovered from the acid leachate in the form of Na 2 SiF 6 , Na 3 AlF 6 , Fe(OH) 3 and CaF 2 respectively and concentration of F - in acid leachate decrease from 3115 mg/L to 6.6 mg/L when the conditions attach the optimal. Finally, Na and Cl in acid leachate is recovered in the form of NaCl via evaporation crystallization. The whole process completes the separation and recovery of all elements in acid leachate of SCC, which has no wastewater discharge and is a closed-cycle route.

Abstract:This paper reported a novel chelating agent and a green precipitation-extraction separation strategy for lithium isotope enrichment. 1-Hydroxy-4-(p-toluidino) anthraquinone and anisole were used as chelating agent and diluent, respectively. Three phases including organic phase, aqueous phase and precipitation could be preparated. The experiment indicated that excess sodium hydroxide was helpful to promote the single-stage precipitation rate and equilibrium time. The isotope result indicated that 6 Li was concentrated in the aqueous phase and 7 Li was concentrated in precipitation phase. The maximum single-stage lithium isotope speration factor reached to 1.013 ± 0.001. By doing thermodynamic analysis of the reaction, the free energy change (ΔG), enthalpy change (ΔH) and entropy change(ΔS) of the separation process were −8.97 J mol −1 , −21.37 J mol −1 and −0.0438 J mol −1 K −1 at 283 K. The results of DFT simulation and wave function analysis indicated that a lithium ion combined with a chelating agent anion formed a stable six-member ring between two oxygen, which was more stable than sodium ions combined with chelating agent anions (the Gibbs free energy of the lithium ions reaction was more negative). As interaction analysis result showed, the Li-O bond in complex interaction was significantly stronger than the Li-O bond interaction in aqueous phase, which was the theroy that led to the enrichment of 7 Li in organic phase. In the activated carbon treatment experiment, it was found that part of lithium chelator solved in aqueous phase, which resulted in that the lithium abundance of aqueous phase hardly changed. In order to increase the abundance of 6 Li in aqueous phase, it is necessary to add adjuvant to reduce the water solubility of lithium chelate. Overall, an economical and environmental-friendly precipitation method with a certain application prospect for lithium isotope separation was proposed, and the direction of improving the separation performance was pointed out in this paper.

Abstract:Chromium oxide (Cr2O3) has wide application in various industries. Its traditional production process, uses sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), which is converted into cheaper byproducts, including sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) and sodium bisulfate (NaHSO4). These byproducts contain hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), which can lead to serious environmental pollution. In this work, a cleaner production process for Cr2O3 through the hydrothermal reduction of a sodium chromate (Na2CrO4) aqueous solution with hydrogen (H2) was studied. Nearly single-phase chromium oxide hydroxide (CrOOH) formed as a solid product after the hydrothermal reduction. Then, Cr2O3 was obtained by the thermal decomposition of CrOOH. The advantages of the new process are remarkable. First, the raw material, the Na2CrO4 aqueous solution, was the direct intermediate product in the pressure oxidative leaching of chromite ore with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Second, the reduction efficiency of Cr(VI) increased up to 97.6%, and the total yield of chromium from Na2CrO4 to Cr2O3 was as high as 94.2%. Finally, 96.6% of sodium could be converted into NaOH, so the aqueous solution in the hydrothermal hydrogen reduction process could be recycled as the leaching agent for the pressure oxidative leaching process of chromite ore. Consequently, a complete cleaner and shorter preparation route from chromite ore to Cr2O3 was achieved by integrating three processes: the pressure oxidative leaching of chromite ore, the hydrothermal reduction of the Na2CrO4 aqueous solution, and the thermal decomposition of CrOOH. The new method achieves the high-efficiency use of chromium resources, cyclic utilization of material, and extremely low environmental pollution of Cr(VI), and well exemplifies the principle of the 3Rs (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse).

Abstract:Ion precipitation flotation technology was demonstrated to be an efficient method for the separation of valuable metals from low-concentration solution. However, the selective separation of three metals from mixing solution is a great challenge, and highly selective reagents are the key to polymetallic separation. In this work, stepwise separation of Co and Zn from the simulated zinc hydrometallurgy wastewater containing ternary Co-Zn-Mn metals by ion precipitation flotation process was proposed. It's demonstrated that organic reagents of 1-nitroso-2-naphthol (NN) and sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate (SDDC) had excellent selectivity for the capture of Co and Zn to form respective precipitate from wastewaters via the chelation reactions. After precipitation, dodecylpyridinium chloride (DPC) and tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) were chosen as surfactants for the separation of Co and Zn sediments from the solution via the flotation process. The effects of solution pH, molar ratio, reaction temperature, and reaction time on the selective precipitation efficiencies of Co and Zn as well as the effects of surfactant dosage and flotation gas velocity on the flotation separation efficiencies were systematically investigated. It's demonstrated that the comprehensive recovery rates of Co, Mn, and Zn reach 98%, 90%, and 99%, respectively. After separation, oxidation calcination of the foam products was conducted to prepare high-purity Co<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> and ZnO nanoparticles in which the organic matters were burnt out with gas emissions. The stepwise chelation capture mechanisms of Co and Zn by highly selective precipitation reagents were minutely discussed. It's demonstrated that the proposed selective stepwise precipitation and flotation method is suitable for recovery of critical metal ions from low-concentration polymetallic wastewaters.

Abstract:A method to separate vanadium (V) and chromium (Cr) from vanadium-chromium (V-Cr) slag was developed to treat the hazardous substances effectively. This approach was achieved by heating V-Cr slag with Na 2 CO 3 in air within a temperature range of 30 °C to 1400 °C. Through TG-DSC, XRD, SEM-EDS and XPS tests, the results showed that Na 2 CO 3 reacted with V compounds at lower temperatures, producing NaVO 2 and Na 3 VO 4 . At the high-temperature stage, Na 2 CO 3 reacted with Cr compounds, resulting in Na 2 CrO 4 and Cr 2 O 3 formation on the slag surface. As the temperature exceeded 1200 °C, volatiles (Na 2 CrO 4 , NaCrO 2 , and other Cr compounds) were generated from the residuals and collected by condensation to separate V and Cr. This method provides a novel strategy for eco-friendly resource utilization of V-Cr slag, which is highly efficient, minimizes hazardous wastes, and can be further promoted in the industry.

Abstract:The flow of aluminum in rare earth separation processes such as Sm/Eu/Gd and ～Gd/Tb/Dy cascades in P507-HCl system has been studied.The content of aluminum and the composition of rare earth in aqueous feed solution,feed stage,third outlet,raffinate and extractant outlets in aqueous or organic phase are analyzed.The separation factor between samarium and aluminum is calculated according to their distribution in the position near the feed stage or the third outlet.The input and output equilibrium of aluminum is compared.The flow and distribution of aluminum in rare earth separation processes are elucidated.Finally,two methods of removing the impurity of aluminum with sodium hydroxide and oxalate acid are presented.
