Abstract:The failure of the boiler tube is a serious problem that directly affects the Indian boiler’s efficiency. In coal-fired thermal power plant boilers, erosion and hot corrosion become a cause of boiler failure, which leads to a big economic loss of the industry as well as country. Hence, in this chapter, we will discuss a thermal spray-coating technique, the HVOF (high velocity oxy-fuel) technique, and find how it can help to minimize the effect of erosion and corrosion in high-temperature environments and improve boiler life. This chapter discusses a thermal spray-coating technique, the high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) technique, and finds how it can help to minimize the effect of erosion and corrosion in high-temperature environments and improve boiler life. The HVOF process produces dense and hard coatings, which help minimize the corrosion and wear that occur at higher temperatures. Cross-sectional analysis gives evidence that bare steel had cracks and pores; on the other hand, coated steel showed a continuous dense coating without any degradation. In coal-fired thermal power plant boilers, erosion and hot corrosion become a cause of boiler failure, which leads to a big economic loss of the industry as well as country. Thermal spray coating is a general term used for a number of coating processess where coating is deposited on the substrate material by applying a steam of particles, metallic or ceramic, and forming splats.
