Abstract:Stealthy techniques and materials are fairly significant for modem national defense system.The theory of radar stealthy techniques and infrared stealthy techniques are reviewed and the progress of different radar and infrared stealthy materials are also introduced,including polycrystalline ferrofiber,chiral absorber,conductivity polymer etc.and also including low infrared emissivity materials,temperature-control materials.Intelligent stealthy material and multifimctional stealthy material are predicted to be the developing tendencies of stealthy material.

Abstract:This review summarizes research progress and recent development and application of infrared stealth materials. Traditional infrared stealth technology such as camouflage dye and infrared stealth coating, and advanced infrared stealth materials such as thermal insulation materials, phase change materials, electrochromic materials, metamaterials, and bionic materials are introduced. Challenges and prospects for the future development of infrared stealth materials are discussed. In modern war of "find and destroy," hiding the target is one of the essential means to improve battlefield survivability of personnel, weapons, and equipment. Infrared stealth technology started to emerge when hiding in the visible light band could no longer meet the protection requirements. With the rapid development of infrared detection technology, infrared stealth materials are gradually diversified. At present, infrared stealth technology no longer focuses only on low infrared emissivity, but from multiple perspectives to achieve target stealth, such as the tunability of optical properties, good thermal management, and multi‐spectral compatibility stealth. At the same time, the infrared stealth of the target is gradually shifted from passive to active, emphasizing dynamic integration of the target and the environment. This review summarizes research progress, development, and application of infrared stealth materials. Camouflage dye and infrared stealth coating are classified as traditional technologies, however new developments and novel processes from literature can be constantly retrieved over the years. In addition to dyeing/coating technologies, this review also highlights advanced infrared stealth materials such as thermal insulation materials, phase change materials, electrochromic materials, metamaterials, and bionic materials. Outlines of the advanced technologies are mainly focused on those published in recent years. Challenges and prospects for the future development of infrared stealth materials are presented at the end of the review.

Abstract:With the development of military stealth technology and the EMC/EMI technology in the internet of things , stealth coating material has attracted more and more attention , as an important branch of functional material .During recent years, stealth coating material has achieved promising improvement from either the material category , design or synthesis point of view, by the promotion of application requirement and technical innovation .Radar absorbing coating, infrared low emissivity coating and multispectral stealth-compatible coating are three most widely developed stealth coatings concerned in this review.Combing recent advances with our previous works , stealth mechanisms, material characteristics and appli-cation techniques were introduced .The promotion effect of novel materials and design approaches on stealth materials was shown, e.g.anisotropic magnetic/dielectric materials, nanostructure dynamic magnetism, and compositing techniques. At last, the problems and future trends of mutispectral stealth coating material were proposed based on the analysis of pres-ented researches.

Abstract:Stealth technology is critical for the existence and the employment of the modern combat weapons systems. Electrochromic materials, which are known as a kind of novel intelligent stealth materials with multi-coloring effect under dynamic control, shows reversible color and emittance change under applied electric filed. Current emerging EC technologies utilizing electrochromism being widely used in intelligent stealth to produce more enhanced effects than traditional static options. This review mainly discusses recent advancement in the electrochromic materials with focus on its applications in the intelligent stealth technologies. Firstly, the principle and classification of electrochromic materials are presented along with summary of recent developments in electrochromism. Secondly, the potential applications of inorganic and organic electrochromism in visible and infrared stealth bands are highlighted. Finally, the challenges and further development approaches are emphasized; it will be intended to underline the future perspectives in realizing intelligent stealth for different applications.

Abstract:Invisibility has been a long-standing topic, owing to its crucial importance in both academia and industry. At the close of the last century, the advent of metamaterials unprecedentedly ignited the enthusiasm toward pursuing invisibility cloaks, but despite two decades of research, it has yet to mature into a practical method. In this Perspective, we first present a review of conventional and state-of-the-art invisibility methodologies, as well as their intrinsic challenges. To take a further step, we focus on the conjunction of two burgeoning disciplines-metamaterials and deep learning-to facilitate an intelligent self-adaptive invisibility cloak for dynamic surroundings. Finally, future directions are described, which include possible development directions and other practice-oriented metadevices driven by deep learning.

Abstract:Low-observable technology, often known as stealth technology, hides soldiers, aircraft, ships, submarines, missiles, satellites, and ground vehicles from radar and infrared sensors (preferably invisible). Stealth coating reduces radar cross section and makes aeroplanes harder to detect. Stealth planes employ radar-absorbing polymers. Stealth technology camouflages vehicles and buildings from radar. A radar-absorbent material may alter an items radar cross section at specific radar frequencies, but it does not make it "invisible" at any frequency. Stealth technology reduces radar reflections using radar-absorbing materials and geometry. Polymer composite-based stealth are graphene, carbon black, carbon nanotubes, and carbon fibres as carbonaceous material and filler. Stealth coating resin market size is based on epoxy, polyurethane, and polyimide. It also protects automobiles against ultraviolet rays, chips, scratches. Tanks and ships employ stealth coating technology to avoid hostile radar. The coating absorbs and scatters radar radiation, hiding the device. Military aircraft uses stealth coating to avoid radar. Commercial airlines are using stealth coating technologies to improve safety and security. The coating reduces aircraft drag and weight, improving fuel economy. Stealth coating absorbs radar signals, hiding the aircraft from radar detection systems. Military and private planes utilise it for security. Stealth coating reduces radar detection by absorbing or deflecting radar emissions. Military operations need stealth and secrecy, but civilian aviation may employ this technology to avoid hijackings and identify unlicensed planes radar-absorbent polymers cover stealth aircraft. These and other design features may weaken the aircraft's radar signal.

Abstract:Stealth technology has very important effect in modern war. In order to gain the initiative in the future war, many countries are thinking much of the study and develop on aircraft stealth technology. The plasma is a kind of novel stealth technology, is a new approach of radar stealth , and is the newest development of radar stealth technology. In the paper, the basic theories about plasma stealth are described. The relations between reflection, absorption attenuation of electromagnetic waves in the plasma and the plasma collision frequency as well as the electromagnetic frequencies are studied by theory analysis and numerical simulation. Moreover we discuss the plasma stealth implementation. The result shows that using the plasma for radar wave stealth is a feasible method.

Abstract:Being invisible ad libitum has long captivated the popular imagination, particularly in terms of safeguarding modern high-end instruments from potential threats. Decades ago, the advent of metamaterials and transformation optics sparked considerable interest in invisibility cloaks, which have been mainly demonstrated in ground and waveguide modalities. However, an omnidirectional flying cloak has not been achieved, primarily due to the challenges associated with dynamic synthesis of metasurface dispersion. We demonstrate an autonomous aeroamphibious invisibility cloak that incorporates a suite of perception, decision, and execution modules, capable of maintaining invisibility amidst kaleidoscopic backgrounds and neutralizing external stimuli. The physical breakthrough lies in the spatiotemporal modulation imparted on tunable metasurfaces to sculpt the scattering field in both space and frequency domains. To intelligently control the spatiotemporal metasurfaces, we introduce a stochastic-evolution learning that automatically aligns with the optimal solution through maximum probabilistic inference. In a fully self-driving experiment, we implement this concept on an unmanned drone and showcase adaptive invisibility in three canonical landscapes—sea, land, and air—with a similarity rate of up to 95%. Our work extends the family of invisibility cloaks to flying modality and inspires other research on material discoveries and homeostatic meta-devices.

Abstract:The stealth effect plays a central role on capacitating nanomaterials for drug delivery applications through improving the pharmacokinetics such as blood circulation, biodistribution, and tissue targeting. Here based on a practical analysis of stealth efficiency and a theoretical discussion of relevant factors, we provide an integrated material and biological perspective in terms of engineering stealth nanomaterials. The analysis surprisingly shows that more than 85% of the reported stealth nanomaterials encounter a rapid drop of blood concentration to half of the administered dose within 1 h post administration although a relatively long β-phase is observed. A term, pseudo-stealth effect, is used to delineate this common pharmacokinetics behavior of nanomaterials, that is, dose-dependent nonlinear pharmacokinetics because of saturating or depressing bio-clearance of RES. We further propose structural holism can be a watershed to improve the stealth effect; that is, the whole surface structure and geometry play important roles, rather than solely relying on a single factor such as maximizing repulsion force through polymer-based steric stabilization (e.g., PEGylation) or inhibiting immune attack through a bio-inspired component. Consequently, engineering delicate structural hierarchies to minimize attractive binding sites, that is, minimal charges/dipole and hydrophobic domain, becomes crucial. In parallel, the pragmatic implementation of the pseudo-stealth effect and dynamic modulation of the stealth effect are discussed for future development.

Abstract:Multispectral compatible stealth technology, such as radar-infrared, infrared-visible, and radar-infrared-visible stealth, has been applied in the military field for better defensive capability than single-band technology. Developing low radar cross-section, low infrared radiation energy, and optical transparency compatible stealth materials is promising for the large-scale application of military. In this review, a deep analysis about multispectral compatible stealth technology is presented to understand the various types, the mechanisms and the design principles of different waveband absorbers. Subsequently, recent advances of compatible stealth materials are discussed in detail. Finally, current challenges and future opportunities in this promising field are also proposed and predicted.

Abstract:The development of metamaterials, i.e., artificially structured materials that interact with waves in unconventional ways, has revolutionized our ability to manipulate the propagation of electromagnetic waves and their interaction with matter. One of the most exciting applications of metamaterial science is related to the possibility of totally suppressing the scattering of an object using an invisibility cloak. Here, we review the available methods to make an object undetectable to electromagnetic waves, and we highlight the outstanding challenges that need to be addressed in order to obtain a fully functional coating capable of suppressing the total scattering of an object. Our outlook discusses how, while passive linear cloaks are fundamentally limited in terms of bandwidth of operation and overall scattering suppression, active and/or nonlinear cloaks hold the promise to overcome, at least partially, some of these limitations.

Abstract:Stealth, as a miraculous physical phenomenon, has received widespread attention from the scientific and engineering communities for a long time. Optically transparent stealth devices are of significant importance for the stealth capabilities of aircraft windshields and solar panels. However, the current stealth implementations are limited to a single frequency band due to the strong dispersion of passive materials so that cross-band stealth still remains challenging. In this paper, a novel cross-wavelength stealth strategy is proposed based on multi-layer graphene transparent metasurface, which achieves stealth both in microwave and terahertz frequency bands. Strong resonance is designed to achieve high absorption in the microwave band and diffuse scattering is employed for RCS reduction in the terahertz band. Materials such as graphene and ITO are employed to achieve optical transparency and flexibility of the metasurface. The above design is implemented using numerical simulations and experiments, and the results are in good agreements. This design method that integrates multiple stealth strategies opens up a new approach for cross-band stealth, with potential applications in countering advanced electromagnetic detection.

Abstract:Metasurfaces are ultrathin, two-dimensional structures composed of periodic or quasi-periodic arrays of sub-wavelength scatterers. They possess the unique ability to comprehensively control the phase, amplitude and polarization of incident electromagnetic waves with added advantages such as ease of fabrication and less space consumption. On account of these factors, they are progressively replacing their three-dimensional counterparts, i.e. metamaterials in a wide gamut of fields such as signal multiplexing, stealth technology, holographic imaging, planar optical devices, polarization transformation devices and so on. Further, metasurfaces offer a strong and promising platform for aerospace applications due to their diversified functionalities and reduced weight penalties. Moreover, it has been widely used for the realization of thin, broadband and polarization independent radar absorbing structures (RAS). In this regard, this paper presents a concise review on the recent advancements in the field of metasurfaces specifically for stealth applications. Special emphasis has been laid on diffusion and coding metasurfaces due to their attractive properties towards the realization of low observable platforms. Furthermore, various types of metasurfaces as well as the different techniques used for the optimization of metasurfaces are also described in detail.
